Tommy John surgery prevalent among high school pitchers
643 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
TJ ended my sons career, not the surgery it was due to massive 'scar tissue' buildup that is related to genics. Being twice drafted by the Yankees, they highly recommended Dr Andrews do the surgery, he was opperated on 1 week after John Smoltz. The Dr did relate the cause on younger players to a cpl of reasons including the ones listed above with mechanics being #1. I can say with my son it was not curve balls at a younger age that led to his elbow being torn up it was due to a Hernia which led to him to trying to pitch thru this and altering his mechanics. Many players from HS down can get by with bad mechanics but at higher levels when you thro in the low to mid 90s it don't take much to tear something up in the elbow or shoulder. I have sat and watched kids in the summer leagues thro curve after curve with some being 12-13, if you will watch the team just play catch (warm up) and notice 'arm action' you will be surprised at the boys trying to thro a breaking ball, this was something I watched closely with mine. A book that was a very helpful to both my son and I was "A pitchers Bible" by Nolan Ryan and Tom House as it speaks on staying away from curve balls. What gets me is the parents of young pitchers that risk arm injury to win a game which meens absolutley nothing, I have went and talked with dads but it seemed as if they know it all, I will say although I came from a BB family I knew enough about BB to know I didn't know anything when it came down to it and I GOT help for him starting at 13. I thank Coach Gilligan and Kyle Green for helping my son reach a goal and stay focused on something he wanted. BTW C Gilligan told my son >>@ 13 if he stayed away from curve balls among other things he would be a Lamar pitcher and one day play Pro ball, both came true as he was a early signee with Lamar but went the JUCO route and did play 2 yrs with the Rangers untill the scar tissue got to much to overcome. -
Congressman Nick Lampson has invited the top dog in NMFS Roy Crabtree to this townhall meeting in Clear Lake, The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. April 25th at the University of Houston, Clear Lake, 2700 Bay Area Blvd. in Clear Lake. The meeting will be in the Bayou Theater on the second floor of the Bayou Building. Houston media will be there and sure would be nice if we here in the Golden Tri had some coverage. If your not aware the Feds are out to controll (manage)our fisheries and this is something they have FAILED to do in Fed waters. The Great Texas Barrier Reef will be discussed.

*HJ at BC Tuesday...Predictions*
643 replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If I were a HJ player I would want Hicks on the mound!!! All it would take is some disipline at the plate, he throws strikes, ball comes in flat and what more could a hitter ask for. -
Local Players in College / Pro Action

With outings like that, Lamar mite not see him, I see where SJ is 35-10 and ranked 5th last week so a trip back to Grand Junction could be in store for San Jac. -
Most Strikeouts Pitched in the Area???
643 replied to Critter's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Hicks did pitch well the 1 time I saw him this yr, if he were 8-10" taller he'd be something to deal with as a pitcher, a gamer for sure wherever he's at. -
BTW Texas waters go out 9 nautical miles offshore and is now and has been regulated by TPW. The NMFS controls the regs past Texas waters and their management of Red Snapper has been a trainwreck to say the least. They are pushing NO FISH zones and if they and the enviros have their way the Flower Gardens will be in the no fish zone. What is ABSOLUTELY shocking to me is the CCA is behind the NMFS on most issues including allowing Commercial Red Snapper fisherman to fish 365 days a yr and cutting the Recs to 66 days and also allowing them to fish till a >>voluntary quota is reached.

[Hidden Content] For those that has been keeping up with some MAJOR issues facing us as Texans concerning fishing OUR state waters. If your not aware the NMSF is trying to take over the regulation of OUR FISH and creating 'petting zones' for fish with closier of strips of the Gulf out to 200 miles offshore. This is NO joke the following is a response to the thread above>> I was at a political ralley in Sugar Land with 3800 people there to support a Lady running for Congress. The President flew in. Well guess what I was told today. The White House is behind the Enviros on this Red Snapper Issue. The White House is under the impression the broodstock has disappeared thanks to the Enviro Lawsuit and Phony Shrimp bycatch numbers of 80% when we knew the current data was 26%. Now I better understand the unholy alliance last year in Washington. If you wanted to get rid of the for hire sector as many have for years this is the way to do it without being up front about it. The Red Snapper issue is much more important than a rally for a Lady running for Congress. We need the largest turn out ever seen for a fisheries issue. We have to have big numbers. We at RFA support the For Hire Sector 100% as most recreational sector folks access their fishery via a for hire sector boat

I'm sure BC won't take this game lightly, as they did the first meeting. HF had BCs butt dipping snuff last game @ BC.

Tufff break for Kelly for sure. Looking forward to Tues game, will be there to see (hopefully) Anthony thro. Hope to see him show his stuff, I remember facing his dad on the mound 40 yrs ago at the Fair Grounds. BTW his dad had a GUN then also.

Your correct on being consistant, I've seen many batters AFTER getting rung up on a low strike late in the game complain when in fact the umpire has been calling there all game. I too believe a pitcher has to 'thro for the ump' I meen if he's giving you the outside black why thro anywhere else. I love a 'pitchers ump' as the batter has a club in his hand.

It would be hard to find any land for less than 6-7$ per thats worth anything.

Question on a protest or appeal of a bad call
643 replied to Trad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I could be and have been wrong BUT I do believe it plainly states in the book concerning argueing a 'judgement call' and BTW a Ump don't have to grant time for a response to a call. I'm sure not here to say it can't be done as I have on more than a cpl of occassions been out to visit with ump on a judgement call. -
Question on a protest or appeal of a bad call
643 replied to Trad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Although a judgement call can't be questiomed, perhaps the coach was questioning the umpires position he was in to make the call and was asking for him to ask for help, this is something some umpires have a hard time doing. I do think most calls are correct and the ones missed are mostly caused by being 'out of positition'. -
This is nothing new, there have been several large tracks of land sold in the last 5 yrs by La Pac, Temple among others and look for it to continue. Another group (out of state) has bought over 150 K acres in E Texas in the last 5 yrs that WAS timber Co land and most all were hunting clubs. All has been broken up and sold except about 3000 acres and it too IS for sale. My dad n I were asked to manage some of it here and in the lakes area for them along with 1 of their buyers who has bought up about 50,000 acres in E Texas. Some of the trks were left as is when it comes to hunting EXCEPT the price has gone up. Its sad but true and IMO the higher prices are reflected in the going prices of land out west and south, I also think the asking price is unrealistict BUT somebody will pay it. We have a lifelong friend that has had the property just East of you (96) on both sides of 255 that is now paying 7$ per acre. BYW clearcuts are not bad for deer if done correctly, deer die of old age in these clearcuts.

My mentor always told me as a gen rule you award '1 from the mound, 2 from the field'.

What do you consider a good high school ERA?
643 replied to DoctorSamson's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Have you benn drinking the water from the papermills outflow water storage facility??? -
Yes I was assuming that but didn't think of it in the way you put it, but that was a judgement call and you know you can't argue a judgement call. Thats why you guys get the big bucks. Your last statement of the money is on the money......

(?? runs / ?? innings) x 9 = ?.?? I really would think it would be based on 9in, all college games are based on using 9in, even in a 7 inn game, also holds true in a run limit game which could be 5 or 6 inn. -
Its a JUDGEMENT call, and what may not 'in your opinion' be malicious contact, it very well could be in the umpires, IMO you should slide and it removes all dought, BTW how can a player come in standing up and dislodge ball without being guilty of malicious contact.

Dont go for it Rhino, Dont do it Ump1 is a big ol boy!!!

Well said Blue, I for 1 have had my refresher course, I confused the play with a ball entering a dead zone and thats what I was basing it on. I have been to more than a lot games, have been on both sides of the fence and this was a first for me in this situtation. I have also seen umpires make mistakes at ALL levels of play. I want to commend the first base ump again for asking for help....need more of that. thanks for what you guys do.

*PN-G vs. Vidor/4-3 Vidor Wins/Comments*
643 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think some here mite need a refresher couse in the rules, runner should have been around third and most likely on his way home, unless he fell before getting to 3rd, he should and was brought to home. It mite be me needn a refresher couse but I do think the run in question counts. The next meeting of the two will no dought be a good one.
