Save your money on all the Richard Wolters books, I'm not saying their no good just lots better on the market now. I would highly recommend 'Hey Pup Fetch it Up' by Bill Tarrant, this book is unlike the Water Dog books as its about 500pgs v/s 100 in the Wolters books. This book will take you from puppy to adult with a section on force training. I dought you will find this book on any shelves at your local book store and most probabally have to order from Books a Million or such. Whatever you choose remember when his tails a waggn he enjoying what your teaching, when it stops, you stop, remember you have to keep it fun for the dog. My dog will drop a bloody T-bone to fetch a dummy.

HF vs. Barbers Hill Scrimmage Thread
643 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
YES what he said, in HFs case I'll be willing to bet they have 3-4 that play summer ball compared to some schools that have 3-4 that DONT play. -
Correct, the only times I've seen a catcher in college call a pitch other than what the coach had called for is if the catcher caught the batter 'peeking' then its usually given with a single finger.
-
From the reports I've seen you mite need some xtra cooler space.

Nederland vs Hamshire Fannett scrimmage

There is no way anyone other than Coach Landry runs that team>> NO WAY, and it aint gonna happen. His first yr out of college there were a few that doughted his ability, didn't like his 'Old school, hardnosed' type of BB but they soon changed their way of thinking, came together and surprised more than a few as his record clearly shows. You will be hard pressed to find anyone that knows more about the game as he was coached by some of the best in the game, in HS, Juco and D1 he was a starter NOT just on the team, to be a starter on Nationally ranked teams you have to bring something to the table and he did. Be glad you have a coach like him for if you put him in a school that backs BB with a decent offseason program there is no telling what he could do. I'm a HJ fan but have followed coach Landry from HS thru college and now as a coach. -
You are absolutly CORRECT, they have backed the Comercial guys early on with the IFQs, 24/7 fishing for them, reduced their size limits to 13" while constantly stating the Recs are the problem the the Snapper. Now if you live in Fl the CCA is #1, although they have done good in the yrs past yhey have truely lost touch with the ones who put them where they are today>>>GCCA was started here in Texas.

I don't know if your aware BUT NMFS tried to get TPW to go along with their more restrictive limits of 2 snappers in state waters. This was temp shot down by TPW and the feds could force the issue, the feds bounced back and are currently trying to get the Tx offshore guides not to be able to use Tx limits in Tx waters and use the more restricive Fed limits. Basicly now you can hire a guide and make a run offshore for Tuna, Dolphin ect and come back in Tx waters and get your Tx limit of snapper (4) The NMFS as history shows can't manage the snapper in Fed waters and now want to run (RUIN) TPW fisheries.

Yea the catchers do call the pitches as per rules of the game, BUT only after they get them from the dugout. Not only pitches but location, infield setup, picks among others. The coach my son played for only allowed a pitcher to shake off 1 or 2 at the most and you had better hope a pitch you shook off wasn't hit and found a hole. This held true for both colleges he pitched for.
-
You couldn't have said it better, I have NO idea why some let the catchers call the game, and some wonder why the pitcher has elbow problems. Very few college coaches let the catchers call the game or at least what has been my exp. It would be safer to let him make out the lineup than to allow him to call pitches. imo

15-18 IMO is not to many to carry. I'm sure some will cut themselves after a cpl of weeks into practice, probablly sooner. The BB coach @ HF knows what it takes to get where the dedicated players want to go and will not stop short of having them condititioned and ready. I'm sure HF will once again surprise more than a few again this yr. You'll never get politics or brown nosing out of HS sports.

172 net taken in Newton Co, scored by TPW

Is this one of Mike Rutledges teams??

200 yrds inbetween the eyes, is this a joke, I have killed more than a few with a 22 but I would not say it the best Deer rifle, I wouldn't say a 270 is either.
-
If Custer would have had machine guns it would have been a different outcome.
-
That is how I look for a mature deer, they will hit the same trees along with new ones. If you find where a mature buck lives I dought you will find another using the same trees.

For a team thats not from a baseball rich community he does exceptionaly well with the talent he has to work with. This IMO is what makes a good coach not one that is loaded with talent and has plenty to choose from as LCM, PNG, Ned among others. He brings the 'Old School' back as that is what he was taught. You often hear players-dads when asked if there coach played after HS answer "I heard he played college ball' or "he played in HS" I'm hear to tell you Coach Landry was a major contributor (starter) in both JUCO, D1 and on nationally ranked teams not to mention what he did while at Ned HS. I dought thers is any local coach that has been where he's been, played with or for coaches or players you now see in the Big Leagues. You guys at HF have IMO the best coach in the area.

Look at the Henry 'Golden Boy' lever action, heavy barrel, old type sights>rear is buckhorn and front is a true bead not just a post like most have. I've got 1 in the 22 mag and love it.

Looked at a 175 class deer yesterday at a local Taxidermist shop, came from Newton Co 4 1/2 y/o. They dont get like this when you take a 3 1/2 y/o 16" 10pt. This deer was scored by 4 guys all came up with a score from 172-179. -
Congrats to Anthony and family. WW

I too think he's 4 1/2 at 5 1/2 he should have more of a 'pot belly' along with a slight sway in back, no dought a good buck and most ranchers would insist you let walk another yr. Now back to the topic this past week we have taken 3 bucks along with a cpl of does here in Hardin Co. We had a 'Spots n Dots' guide from Venice La down to hunt with us this week, he took home 2 does and a small buck. My dad got a 17 1/2" 5pt that was 3 1/2 y/o that should have been wacked as a yearling, no brow tines with 2" points. The other buck was a typical 8 @ 2 1/2 y/o. Management here in E Texas is "if you dont manage to get a 10 a 8 will be good and if you dont manage to get a 8 a 6 will be fine" The bottom line is a Trophy is in the eyes of the beholder. -
Well I havnt read any post of a sucessfull youth hunt so heres one. We had 4 boys n 1 girl from Miss along with 2 local boys hunting with us Sat N Sun. 2 of the boys were 9y/o and the rest were in their teens. The 9 y/os took 1 6pt 1 spike and 2 does, the girl got her first doe after several misses, the teen agers took 4 does and a cpl of spikes, two of the boys dads took a cpl of does with a bow. Several good bucks were seen chasing does as the 'Rut' is in full swing here in Hardin Co. One of the 9y/o boys from Miss took the 6pt and doe for his 11th deer, the other 9y/o took his 5th deer. A great time was had by all and all look to have a promising future in the great outdoors.

Who are the best players you played with or against?
643 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I wish I could have been at the game with the glove incedent but us dads had to work some, Zero filled me in before I heard about it from you know who. The nite before the game with Pujols, my dad n I were eating with Jeff, and he told us he would probally have to hit some guy every time he came to the plate that was supposed to be the best hitter in JUCO and for me not to say a word. I do remember Pujols going 0-3 with 2 Ks and Cade hitting 2 MONSTER shots. I don't think I have seen as many scouts at any game as were at that one, Pujols 'stock' plunged that day and Cade n Jeffs rose considerably. Although I don't remember what you did that day I do remember your bomb at the 'slugfest' in Grand Junction. I hope you the best in this and the comming yrs and love the 'old scool' coaching you bring. Tell your dad hello and I hope to see him this yr at the HF-HJ games. -
You had better not count HF out with IMO one of the best coaches in the area not to mention he's got some pretty good talent returning to work with for a change.
