  1. Get some of those teams that can get the 100 point free chicken night
  2. Yes it was. The Southland conference had power ratings right in the middle of the pack back in those days not dead last. Also, the year La. Tech ended the Cardinals 80 game home court winning streak the Cardinals ended the regular season with a 25-4 record. Under the few sources that were not biased they were ranked about 20 in power rating and should have received an at large bid. That was the time Pat Foster coined the phrase that the NCAA selection committee was "white collar criminals".
  3. James Gulley from Newton was on those last of the good teams. Tic Price was assistant coach at Chattanooga when we lost to them in NIT. That was an overtime game. I believe Lamar had about a 7 point lead with a minute left and gave it up before going to overtime.
  4. Kenneth Perkins was on those 80 to 84 teams as well. Lamar beat Missouri in 1981 and in 1983 smoked Alabama 73-50 before losing by 60-58 to Villanova. I know there was a story on Olliver. It may have been against Weber State in 1980 where he was standing about 35 feet from the basket by the bench and the opposing coach said don't guard him that far out. Well he hit one from about 35 feet and the opposing coach was yelling "guard him, guard him". A good many of his shots would have been 3 pointers where he normally shot from. They had Olliver and Clarence Kea on those teams because the Carolinas weren't interested in them.
  5. I don't even know where to start with all this. In the other topic on the AD search there was a link to an interview with former baseball coach Jim Gilligan. He, of course will be diplomatic but even he said all the programs are down now. As far as basketball, under Tubbs and Foster we had 7 consecutive 20 win seasons with 4 NCAA tournament appearance and 3 NIT appearances. Since then we have had 3 seasons with 20 wins in the last 37 years. I will ramble on some more in another post but my question is why? Is it athletic directors, coaches, recruiting? Do recruits not like this area or campus? Is it too hard to recruit when you always have a losing program? We have tons of great talent even in our own area and a lot of them don't go the top name programs. Why can't we keep any of them around here?
  6. Lamar finishes the sweep of SFA 6-3 on the road. This week: non-conference game against Northwestern State and then host Sam in conference on the weekend.
  7. Lamar wins a doubleheader from SFA 2-1 and 14-3 to open conference play.
  8. Yes, seems like on some of these hires it looked good on paper and just didn't pan out. He was under the winning LSU program and then came to Lamar as an understudy before Gilligan retired. I remember in the past when Gilligan left Lamar his first time there were some pretty bad seasons (late 80s and early 90s) and when Gilligan came back they had some better seasons again. I just don't know what to say just total frustration with all the athletic programs.
  9. He had been on leave. He pretty much destroyed every athletic program Lamar had with poor decisions and hires. Here is hoping we get somebody good to turn our programs around.
  10. I think it is not the name of he school you are playing but the kind of year they are having. Sure, Lamar beat Rice 2 out of 3 games this year but Rice is 3-10 as of today. Houston Baptist is 6-8 and in the Southland. All in all we get a lot of fool's gold in these pre-conference games and then when conference rolls around we end up near the bottom of the pack. That has been the typical scenario since Gilligan has been gone.
  11. A close loss on the road tonight 57 to 49. Next week the final two games of the season at home against two of the weaker teams in the conference. We haven't beat a Division I team this season.
  12. Thanks @TxHoopsfor all your input on Lamar and also other topics as well. I am willing to excuse this year with all the covid and injuries. I just can't understand why we never can have a decent basketball team.
  13. no doubt looks like about 3 or 4 total plays in the playbook
  14. pathetic you know they are going downfield and they are wide open
  15. another unsportsmanlike. really needed a score there to wrap it up. 35 yards backwards
  16. Final 56-28 Memorial Tight game up until the flood of big plays
