2023 Astros - Defending WS Champs

Great outing by Valdez. He wants to show he is still ace of the staff. Encouraging that Brown and him both had good outings their last starts. Hopefully we can get Javier back to being his old self again. -

Yep I was Astro fan back in 1980 as well...or you can ask Roger Clemens in 2005. Astros lost 5 games he started 1-0 including three consecutive starts. More run support would definitely help and it lowers the pitching stress knowing= you don't have to be perfect. The thing I was looking at was the games from start of season to the middle of June our ERA was 3.3. In games since middle of June our ERA has ballooned to 4.84. -

Of course you know it is about trying to win now. We don't know if those prospects will pan out and if they do when they will pan out. Also, we don't know if Verlander will pitch well or not so it is just a roll of the dice. -

I think it's a good deal for all. When Verlander walked the Astros had three other starting pitchers they were counting on. Two were injured for the season (Garcia, McCullers) and a third Urquidy has been out and is returning soon. Having another quality starter should help all involved. They could go to a six man rotation so some of these pitchers would not have such dead arms. If it helps the other starters then the bullpen should not be taxed as much. Also, we would not have to shuffle these pitchers that are not major league quality up and down (Blanco, Bielak, and Dubin). So if it works out this way we should have all around healthier players and a better chance to get to the WS. -

Astros hang on to win 4-3. Only one game out of first now. Great pitching performance again by France. He's probably been our second best pitcher this season. Chas and Tucker continue to hit well. Tucker with a great catch for the final out of the game. Hearing we may get some of our injured players called up tomorrow. -

Nice win tonight. Still too many questionable lineup decisions by Dusty. Hopefully some of this chaos will end when we get our other starters healthy again. -

After nightmare loss last night, miracle win today. Not sure what to think of Astros right now. Pitching looks pretty worn even though Javier was a little better today than his last outings. Bullpen exhausted. -

I can't stand the national broadcasts either. I usually watch the video and listen to the Astros radio broadcast even though it is not in sync. -

Astros came through Friday night with a 7-5 win. Pitching is starting to leak oil pretty bad. Waiting for some of our players to come off the injured list and see what all the teams do by the trade deadline. -

Yep if he didn't get out of that jam we probably would have been swept in this series. Offense only scored 6 runs on 19 hits in four games. Pitching not that bad except for Friday. No offense puts a lot of pressure on our pitchers. Hopefully, Altuve and Alvarez are back soon and that should aid the offense. At this point, two games behind going into the all-star break actually feels like a positive. -

That's a typical Blanco outing. He has given up two home runs his last five outings and he's a little wild too. Still he only gave up three runs...Astros just couldn't do anything offensively except Julks. Face Castillo tomorrow another pretty tough pitcher. Wish they would bench Maldonado and let Diaz play on the field and use another better hitter to DH. Dusty won't do that though. -

Ronel Blanco was recalled from Triple A and will start tonight. Not sure how that works thought you had to be down 15 days before you could be recalled. Altuve back to IL. -

Starter for Thursday still to be announced. They are really having trouble right now keeping enough starters especially with Javier's problem unknown. Hopefully after all star break Urquidy comes back to eat up some innings, they get Javier fixed, and they do a trade for a decent starter or at least somebody that can eat up some innings. -

Astros blow an 8 run lead and fall behind only to score 2 in the 9th to take the win 12-11. WOW -
yep very disappointing season has ended. totally lackluster effort with four errors on defense.
-
runners 2nd and 3rd with no outs and still can't score...sad.
-
Yes, since 2017 they are 0-4 in the SLC tournament. They did manage to win their first round game in the WAC last year and finished 1-2 there.
-
That was originally known as the "Lamar rule". Lamar baseball and basketball were so good in the late 70s and early 80s that Lamar finished first in the conference standings almost every year. So the SLC joined the bigger conferences with the tournament to try to keep Lamar from getting the bid every year.
-
darn my seedings came out correctly on that Northwestern. Lamar couldn't have asked for a better day today. It really all depends who plays well next week. I think any of the teams could win the tournament. Actually, I expected much more out of this season as well especially from the bats. So I have not been happy with a lot of the outcomes myself.
-
I think they look at their record against the highest seed until one or more are separated. So they would look at Nicholls, UIW, Lamar. Northwestern is 2-1 versus Nicholls and the other two are 1-2 so Northwestern would be the higher seed. Then I think the next seed would be determined by the head to head between McNeese and Northwestern. That would be the single elimination game. Of course who knows I the Southland site is not so good.
-
LOL Southeastern won and UIW also threatening to add on in the 9th.
-
LOL oh the ups and downs. If Southeastern and UIW would win Lamar would be in a tie with New Orleans for 3rd and we own the tiebreaker with them... and Southeastern has tied now 6-6.
-
yeppers following. Southeastern gave up that nice lead to Northwestern. New Orleans already 10 run ruled Nicholls. Hard to figure from week to week. Just don't want to get the single elimination game. So go UIW CARDINGALS !!!
-
Well Lamar does their part winning 9-5. Current other game going most our way is Southeastern leading Northwestern 4-1 in the 6th inning.
