Losing to Vidor......I mean come on!!!!! :D :D :D
Like I told you goobers monday, not only have we lost two starting guards last week, but Monday in Practice we lost our 6'5" post to a broken wrist! Vidor probably played about as well as I've seen them play this year and we are quite simply looking like a week 2 pre-season team. Congratulations to the Pirates! You played well and deserved the W. Oh yes, and we still kicked you guys little teddy bears a$$. as I remember it's been a clean sweep football, basketball (twice)!!! a bit of baseball anyone? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Yeah bring on the baseball!
How you figure? The Eagles gave them all they could handle and with the Indians scoring after an interception on the Eagle 14 with about 2-1/2 minutes left for their 3rd score, doesn't sound like an old fashioned beating to me. Win, absolutely!!! Beating... Hardly!!
The score is 21 7 any way you look at it. -
This is getting a little boring. Someone should type something about how all the vidor fans are simply trying to convince themselves that their team has a chance to win or that the 20-4A fans who claim to be in the deepest district in the state are morons. Heck maybe someone should argue that Dayton is way better than Vidor because there are more gas stations in Dayton or that Dayton's football players have cooler tattoos than Vidor football players. I really wish that someone would do something like that, it would totally make the thread more interesting.
I guess you just did...... Any team on any given night!!!!!! Just get ready to rumble! You Dayton guys can't talk down a V.
Wow! I completely forgot about that. Age is getting to me (ha). Nederland won 21-9 (I think) in 2000. I remember now. Sorry about that.
It is happening to the best of us! ;D
PirateFootball-2010... Hope my comment about "trying to find it again" wasn't taken the wrong way. I wasn't belittling the kids...I think they've played hard and I wish them well. I just meant it's been 30 years since Vidor made the playoffs (I remember it well...I was in 5th grade at Vidor Elementary when it happened) and confidence has always been the downfall of the Pirates (imo). They've had some good teams but they never seem to make it over the hump. And, I'm afraid the same thing is going to happen this year. Livingston is tougher than their record indicates and they will be ready for the Pirates. We'll see what happens! Of course, as already mentioned by 'badndn', losing may still lead to a playoff trip (since someone at the UIL thinks 4 teams should go. If it were up to me, we wouldn't even be discussing all of this because only 2 teams would go). Good luck!!!
The Pirates made it to the playoffs in 2000.
I think he runs the option pretty well. The problem is when he goes to pass. The Vidor offense looks like it has ONE pass play in its playbook. They throw a streak route out of the backfield to #21. I was shocked that Vidor was throwing on 1st down when the fumble happened. They had just gotten a gift of a penalty when it was 3rd and forever. They still had 2 minutes and were at midfield. If Vidor would mix it up a bit more and maybe throw 25-30% of the time, then I think that offense would be pretty darn tough! I just don't think you can win district these days or make any kind of playoff run if you are completely one-dimensional. This is not a knock on Vidor, it's just too easy for good DC's to gameplan for.
Jake as a Vidor fan I agree with you! We have a great running offense and everyone knows it! I will let that statement sink in for a minute............. OK the everyone knows it part was the key. This year hopefully the run will be enough to just get us in the playoffs. Next year we need to change it up a bit. I am not saying we run the spread, but we need more than 1 reciever and basically 1 or 2 pass plays. No bashing here I believe our coaches are doing there best and have given us a real chance at the playoffs, but to consistantly win in this district we will have to change.
Rusted, good post. I would like to address the fumble/forward pass call. That ended up being a 2nd and 15 down from a previous holding call on Vidor. The previous play, we sacked the QB for about an 8-10 yard loss. Had we not gotten that unsportsmanlike call, it would have been 3rd and about 30. The way our defense played all night, and especially on that last couple of series, do you really think Vidor would have converted? Of course you like to hope that it would have happened, and every team thinks that given ''one more shot'', they would prevail, but I happen to believe that we would have held on defense. Now, for ''THE PLAY".....It was ruled a fumble and that is the way it will be forever. Let's say for the moment that it was an incomplete forward pass. Do you realize that the ball hit an offensive lineman and that would have been ruled intentional grounding? Now, instead of just having an incomplete pass making it 3rd and 15, you get penalized 10 yards with loss of down and it is 3rd and 25....just about the same place it would have been had we not gotten the unsportsmanlike call. I still like Ned's chances from there. Vidor didn't pass well all night. There was a screen that got some yardage, but Vidor just kept running inside (as you have already stated) and we kept making stops for minus yardage. Vidor's backs are tough, but this is positively the best I have seen our defense play in quite sometime. Vidor seemed to have some success with the toss/sweep, but didn't stay with it. If my analysis of the series in question is inaccurate, please feel free to correct me. That is the way I remember it though. All in all, I say hats off to Vidor for a hard fought game. There was some hitting going on and that is the kind of game I like....even if we lose, I applaud the effort.
Good post! And actually I agree it would have been very tough to convert. And yes I would have like to see if a miracle would have happened. It does sometimes, but most times not! It was one of those games to remember. I know the guys on both sides will remember it from the aches and pains for a few more days at practice anyway. Hats off to you guys you are turning it around at the right tme!

Vidor at Nederland Predictions

I just don't think the Nederland QB and recievers will have their timing down in the slop. I also believe the bomb will be hard to find a handle on. Again, hold on to the ball and we should win!
The passing game looked pretty good in the slop.
Yes it did, actually the field was sloppy but not as bad as I was hopeing for. It did slow cutting down, but the ball stayed fairly dry. -

They can't win it outright. It's PNG's outright title to lose. I don't see it happening.
good point, I missed that.
Not that I am predicting this to happen, but if Central wins wouldn't they be in first since the records would be tied and they win head to head?
