Open/closed enrollment, transfers, recruiting….Help me UNDERSTAND?
CS. replied to PNG4LIFE91's topic in High School Football
I actually provided facts to back my statements but you didn't want to hear them. You are tone deaf. No one will convince you otherwise that your opinion is just biased based on personal feelings and experience. Also, you seem to ignore that the original suggestions weren't to "close the door on them" but rather ask them to play up a level or two to make it more fair throughout the entire field of teams. no. what you want is for them to stack teams every year and win state. then sit there and beat your chest that the coaches "built something" You know who built something? Woodville. PNG. etc. That is building something. -

Losing a debate? Throw insults out to anyone spitting facts. Dig in and support your one sided opinion. Losing even more? Call them racist. -

You're doing the assuming. I do know some. Specifically the Quarterback at Argyle. He left Lake Dallas to become the Starter at Argyle. That isn't speculation. and once again. I DO NOT CARE why they are doing it. I really don't. GOOD FOR THEM. They still need to move those schools who are benefiting to a higher classification. Otherwise they are gaining an unfair advantage on the field. That is a statement of fact. Transfer all you want to better your situation. Go for it. Don't do it at the expense of hard working teams all over the state who get pushed out by an SOC, or whatever because you stacked your team. but if you're honest about MOST situations, it isn't hard to figure out why they are moving. Perhaps those SOC coaches should have kept their mouths shut in the elevator at AT&T last year? And that's just one example. I know of many first hand accounts because of some connections in Dallas. They boast about what they're doing. -

If you really want to see for yourself, go look at the roster for SOC last year, and then look at this year. Look at the kids and where they went to Middle School or Freshman year and then where they suddenly end up there Junior or Senior year. You cannot for one second believe anyone would ever transfer to SOC for educational purposes- as stated a few times, it is literally ranked at the bottom of Texas schools for education. Transferring for athletic purposes is not permitted. It's not hard to understand but somehow you're making it extremely difficult. -

At what point did I tell a parent what is best for their kid? I mean, I'm a parent myself but I don't see where I said anything of the sort. Your response tells me you're losing a debate because you're feelings are more important than facts so you're going to resort to throwing out insults. Butt hurt? No. I do care about people no matter where they are from. I'd be on here stating my same opinion if this happened to ANY school because PNG isn't the only team to run into this problem. As I recall, PNG still took care of business last year regardless and came close in '22 as well. You seem to have a hard time separating facts from feelings. It happens. -

Again - as stated multiple times before - If they find a way out of bad situations.... GREAT. But there needs to be a rule to stop Coaches/Schools from stacking teams just to win State Championships. This debate isn't whether a kid should be able to play football somewhere. If you really think moving to Dallas South Oak Cliff is the best for your kid... uhh ok cool. SOC moves to 6A. Period. Coach Todd is stacking teams on an annual basis and the typical fan has to watch the same team play there 4 years in a row now. How fun is that? Now, if they were doing things correctly and making it there..... kudos. The point is, they aren't. The sport needs an overhaul. It's not an impressive feat to get kids from all over the state to play on one team for one goal. I'm happy those kids are playing in College. That is a wonderful thing.... but if you want to stack teams, play with the big boys. You'll still get seen. You don't have to win a state championship to get into college. -

Which is easy to do with open enrollment and the UIL allowing him to get away with recruiting. He isn’t building that type of program with actual SOC students and he never will. Same goes for any of these “dominant programs” -

100% wrong. the success is completely attributed to the recruiting. Especially at SOC. SOC lost last year to PNG and one of their coaches in the elevator said verbatim “we will never win another one with this **** at QB. We gotta make a change. here comes Reggie McNeal Jr. didn’t work out but he sure made a difference. Along with multiple other athletes who didn’t grow up in South Oak Cliff. No. They grew up in Red Oak. Arlington. Forth Worth. Houston. it’s a cheap way to win and then beat your chest that “you’re the best.” the best at skirting the rules. sorry but I’m not impressed and I never will be. I’m impressed with PNG of 2023. woodville 2024. and all other teams that did it without skirting the rules or cheating outright. Open enrollment is poison to High School football. Plain and simple. THAT is common sense. -

I'm sure they could if they chose to but there are plenty of reasons not to. Whatever those reasons are, I don't know. -

CS. replied to PNG4LIFE91's topic in High School Football
AS mentioned before, the solution is very simple. If you have open enrollment, you will need to move up a classification. OR, they can create an entire division of Open enrollment schools to play. let them "recruit" against each other and they can do whatever they want and stay out of the way of Schools who continue to keep things closed and fair. -

You're missing the point. Look at SOC for example and their roster this year compared to last. You really think they all transferred to SOC for educational purposes? You think they moved there? The answer is no. And the example I have about the Argyle QB - that is first hand knowledge. I have a close personal friend who knows everyone up there personally. He literally went to Argyle for Football. If you don't think money is changing hands in these deals you are simply naive. -

This is the correct answer. Recruiting using the excuse of open enrollment is creating an unfair advantage for certain schools, specifically those listed above. It's cheating without cheating because they're skirting the rules. They know it. The UIL should absolutely step in and create an open enrollment division or force each to play up to 6A. Ultimately, these schools are robbing closed enrollment schools of potential trips to Rounds in the playoffs they may never see otherwise. Not to mention the schools that lose out on talent that they could use. An example other than SOC is this... The QB for Argyle was recruited from Lake Dallas. Lake Dallas had a very good team last year and that QB would have made a huge difference for them. Forward to this year, Lake Dallas moves down to 4A-D1 and end up going 5-5. He would have made a huge difference to them the last two years but instead he went to Argyle "for education?" - Sure. Good for the kid I guess. He went to the Semis in 5A and got slammed by SOC who has an unreal amount of students on their roster who weren't there last year. Imagine if LCM or BC recruited the guys out of WOS and went to State. -
South Oak Cliff (56) vs Port Neches-Groves (14) - FINAL

PNG does not have open enrollment. You are clueless -
According to Bostwick, weather will be temps in the 40's and dry

I never miss a game if I can help it. I missed one this year because we went to see the Longhorns beat the Gators. That's the only game I've missed in person in 5 years, maybe more.

The ability to watch on TV and youtube kind of killed that for the most part. We still have giant crowds, Last weeks total was about 10K according to the news article from Natchitoches. PNG filled up both lower parts of their side and every suite available was completely packed and sold out. Nothing to sneeze at for sure. I believe it was 5400PNG to 2900 Texas City for attendance if I'm remembering correctly. Not bad for a near 3 hour drive.

On film and seeing one in person, T High looked like a better overall team to me than SOC. We will see what happens soon.

We ran into a guy in Natchitoches in the hotel this past weekend. He stopped and asked “does that PNG on your shirt stand for Port Neches?” we said yes it does and he ended up telling us he “hated our guts” lol and that he graduated from Port Arthur Lincoln. very very nice man. Small world.

No. Those days are long gone.

From a kid I know who played against and beat Kaufman this season. His team finished 5-5 in 4A-D1. Love a good jet sweep, they’ve got a helluva receiver #15 big man, qb does well under pressure. Defense has big linebackers, no pass rush at all, our qb had all day, gotta be able to run power pulling thre guards in the run game, pretty good against the deep ball.

As a PNG fan, why would you want Nederland to win this one? Are you aware of what is at stake here?

DCTF has update the point spread prediction to PNG favored by 26. It was previously 37. Hope this helps.
