  1. My guess is that even if the naming rights are sold, some future board will vote to put Thomas’s name up there. My understanding is that an anonymous donor paid to have it renamed “memorial” last time and that the school will have to reimburse that person’s contribution as well as pay to have the thing renamed after Thomas. It is what it is… the black community throwing up a big middle finger at whitey. “It’s our time now.” Yeah, and we all like what you’re doing with it, lol.
  2. It's the parents. I saw a post recently where Silsbee Parents were INCENSED that their kids wouldn't be allowed to have the cellphones in class because Mama NEEDS to be able to reach Johnny, and there isn't a any old school that's gonna tell her child any different. I'm of the opinion that is the instance where administration should dis-enroll Johnny and let Mama get down to homeschoolin'. You know, "I don't beat my child and I'll sue the pants off anyone that dares to harm a hair on his head." There's something about getting drug out into the hall at a young age and trying to hide hot tears when you rejoin your classmates that will alleviate 95% of the behavioral problems that we have in classes today.
  3. This stinks... I hate it for him, his family, and the community. Sometimes it just isn't fair.
  4. He was charged over a local election that occurred in 2019...nothing to do with Trumps collapse in 2020. More specifically, he is charged with showing up at the homes of voters with absentee applications and ballots-which is a violation of their state law(s). But honestly, nobody is complaining that their vote was stolen or cast fraudulently. Who's to say if these people would have voted differently (or at all) if the candidate/fraudster hadn't dropped by and broken their election laws? He broke the law (allegedly) and for that he should be punished if convicted. But pointing at this as somehow proof that Trump won is wishful thinking at best.
  5. Yeah.... us getting it was the final straw, lol.
  6. I think that's what we're all kinda curious about. A "decent supporting cast" and a first time head coach to replace a Hall of Famer? It's gonna be miraculous if there's not a letdown. I expect a lot more of what we saw when CT was sick this past fall... hope I'm wrong. One things is for sure... we're all gonna know a lot more in a little over four months.
  7. I didn’t mean to quote you. The posts aren’t related, lol i guess my biggest gripe is when government starts taking steps to phase out fossil fuels before we’re ready for electric… and who knows if we’ll ever be ready.
  8. Contrary… the taxes are much lower in Lum than mid county. The problem is that there isn’t really any affordable housing for younger families. You have to be pretty well established to afford a home in just about any Lum subdivision.
  9. I got off work on day last week and made a flying trip to Spring and back pulling a trailer. That's not feasible with an EV. Pretending that it will work is just folly.
  10. I don't have the link, but I saw a video clip of a mechanic showing a 2015 electric car that needed a battery... I think it was a GM product. The cost of the battery was over $6300. The total job for the battery replacement was gonna be right at $8000. Except he can't get his hands on the battery right now. Don't quote me on the specifics. Not the actual drive motors which could fail, and not any other mechanical component that could fail. The battery. Kinda like if your fuel tank on your car one day "went out" and it would take $8k to fix it, if you could even get your hands on a new tank. I personally don't understand the logic. You won't be able to buy gas powered lawn equipment in California in a couple of years. How does a lawn service run all day on battery powered equipment? The grid fails when we all turn on our heaters or air conditioners at the same time. How are all supposed to start charging our electric cars, too?
  11. AD had better get this turned around or changes will be made, lol. We will not stand for mediocrity (in baseball)!!!!!!
  12. Vladimir Putin is right at 99% approval in Russia. Polls are a joke.
  13. I agree.. glad the discourse has been cordial. I think that most of don't favor abortion on demand.... I think that what we should all probably focus on is a better way to express our views. You know, share them in a matter that doesn't alienate pretty much everybody that doesn't pay tithes at the Westboro Baptist Church. There's nothing more offensive and counterproductive than some old white dude with a body count of 1 hollering "YOU'VE GOT BLOOD ON YOUR BABY-KILLING HANDS!!!! IT'S MURDER!!!! YOU MADE YOUR BED, NOW LIE IN IT!!!!" Press your state rep to push for low/no cost adoptions here in Texas. If we can afford to pay for legal defense for the indigent, we should be able to scratch up the funds for court appointed adoption attorneys. Share a vision of hope instead of a hateful display. Make the world a better place, not just yelling until you get your way and then leaving everybody else to worry about the unfortunate outcomes (poverty, crime, child abuse/neglect) that come when moms are forced to give birth to unwanted kids.
  14. You mean, the old fuddy duddies who aren't going to be around to raise them anyways?
  15. I think that it's probably good to note what this anticipated ruling actually means, at least as I understand it. With Roe and Casey overturned, the matter would be left up to the individual states to decide whether it's legal or not. Texas recently enacted one of the most restrictive laws regarding abortion in the state. I fully expect that law to be challenged, but I also expect a push here to enact another even more restrictive law, perhaps a total ban on abortions in Texas. I also expect any number of laws nation wide to be challenged by pro-choice forces immediately. I think at the end of the day all that we're doing is setting up an ongoing series of legal actions legalizing, then criminalizing abortion based on a one or two vote margin in the supreme court. The reversal really isn't going to do a whole lot other than cause more trouble. And it'll cause even more damage to the republican cause because every day there are Pro-lifers dying off and pro choicers turning 18 and earning the right to vote, and they will likely not vote for the party of old dudes that want to force their beliefs on everybody else.
  16. I believe that the pro-choice people don’t see it as murder. There’s no “blood of innocent babies” thoughts going through their mind. It’s a medical procedure like an appendectomy, or a boob job. But some people are willing to get in your face and call you a murderer and try to make it impossible to get this elective procedure done because if THEIR beliefs. There is literally no difference between those yayhoos blocking bull haulers out of packing plants and the people out protesting in front of abortion clinics. To a lot of people, trying to outlaw abortions is as much of an overreach as vegans trying to outlaw the slaughter of beef cattle. It’s difference of opinion, and that’s hard for some people to grasp.
  17. So you’re a vegan? it’s all open to interpretation. Some people won’t eat or shellfish. I don’t have a problem with it. Does that make me wrong and others right? Does that give me the right to legislate other peoples’ beliefs? I’m opposed to abortion, but not so much so that I can’t see the world from any position other than my own. There used to be a guy that always had graphic pro-life billboards (homemade) alongside highway 59 outside of Livingston. I’ve always wondered how many women were brutally reminded of a decision that they regret making a decade or two ago… and how many other people had there opinions forever altered towards pro-choice beliefs after seeing the hateful nature of the message thrown out there by some holier-than-thou who’s never been in a young woman’s shoes, but was more than willing to tell anybody who driving up and down the highway what there choice should be, or when they die they’re gonna go to a “lake of fire and burn forever” instead of going to “paradise” to be with some intergalactic carpenter who supposedly lived a couple thousand years ago and, get this, died so that we can go to “heaven” if we act right. Because eternity doesn’t seem like a priority when you have a very real unplanned pregnancy in the literal now. Sometimes we have the right belief but our message sucks.
  18. At the end of the day, it's still just a bunch of old angry white conservative dudes voicing our opinion on what young women (often minorities) are doing. And we're quite passionate about it.
  19. "Vengenance is mine, sayeth the Lord." It seem like I remember reading that somewhere.
  20. But you have to understand the viewpoints of the others. What if the government tried to tell you how many kids you were legally allowed to have, kinda like they do in China? My guess is that you believe that you, not the government (and your neighbors) should make that decision. If you could momentarily remove the idea that "abortion is murder" from your thought process, it simply becomes a matter of the government (and your neighbors) intruding into your life. That's the difference between "us" and "them." They (for the most part) aren't amoral, sinful people... they just disagree with us on a core issue. And if you could be so kind as to point me to a passage in the bible that specifically forbade abortion, it would make your point much more easy to defend. And before you said "thou shalt not kill," remember that you all agreed that particular commandment doesn't apply to the murder of those who have been convicted by a District Court Judge of Capital Murder. Is it such a stretch to believe that it also doesn't apply to the unborn, not yet capable of sustaining life? Let's don't even talk about the abortion pills. I'd love to hear all of y'all's thoughts on Plan B if you even know what it is.
  21. My dad offered to pay for a vasectomy for me after the birth of my son. I'm still not sure how I'm supposed to feel about that.
  22. Taking a life is taking a life in my book. I oppose abortion and capital punishment for the same reason.
