  1. He works for the county as a contractor... at least that's my understanding. His post came across as racist.... and you someone that displays that much apparent bias towards certain groups probably shouldn't be contracted to care for people that he apparently doesn't like. But that goes all ways.... mayors should profess to only give interviews to people of color, either.
  2. Oh, I wonder how Mayor Johnson will fund his city once industry (and all of it's nuisances) is gone?
  3. Yeah.... turnouts are typically bad, then you have to figure that a runoff election for a single race will have practically no interest for the public. What can I do? Gripe and complain on a message board- that's about it.
  4. Same... I went back to get certified and gave up nine hours shy.... My main reasons for wanting to be a teacher were June, July, and August. It's a part time gig. Lets go to year around schooling with only federal holidays and two weeks vacation and then I'll be willing to listen about how your FULL TIME JOB isn't paid as well as the other FULL TIME JOBS. It's not that hard. Everybody always says "you'd better enjoy yourself, kid.... It's no fun once you graduate and have to get a real job." And it's true, except teachers literally keep living that grade school existence. Grading papers? I had homework as a kid. Your life is literally a fantasy camp if you're a teacher.
  5. There are literally cartels with armies in Mexico, and you believe that all we need to do is decriminalize weed and all those bad guys will give up their silver pointy toed boots, gold 1911s, and armor-clad SUVs and go to work at a taqueria. Most of the people that I know in jail for drugs now are in for forging prescriptions or dealing meth. And you might be right about your friends... but every inmate that is in the pen for moving major weight got started selling a little weed.
  6. You literally have to have a college degree so that the academics will know that you’ve gotten your liberal indoctrination. Most carpenters and pool hustlers can better explain geometry than your typical geometry teacher. No offense, but a liberal arts degree is the consolation prize of undergraduate degrees.
  7. So teachers have it worse than roofers? Worse than welders? Nurse aides? Truck drivers? Industrial maintenance contractors? Equipment operators? Police officers? Firemen? Linemen? Pipeliners? body men? Painters? Wrecker drivers? Fast food workers? Claim adjusters? Walmart employees? Exterminators? Wait staff? Strippers? Drywall hangers? Plumbers? The list goes on and on. EVERY ONE OF THOSE PROFESSIONS WORK MORE DAYS, LONGER HOURS, AND IN WORSE CONDITIONS THAN TEACHERS… often for less money. So I don’t really care to hear how “under appreciated” teachers feel. Hell, they all got a $5k raise last year and still didn’t want to go back to work long after the rest of us did during the pandemic.
  8. No, I just get tired of teachers complaining… they have it MADE compared to the people who pay teachers’ salaries.
  9. Better question is if every single drug dealer is going to work at a dispensary… they’re just gonna move onto a new illegal enterprise. If we decriminalized murder, you’re right. Nobody would ever go to jail for murder. I guess the best question is why hasn’t crime dropped in the areas where marijuana has already been decriminalized?
  10. "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." I'm a doer. 187 day teacher contract. When most of us work 260 days per year, then back out two weeks of vacation and an additional ten holidays for roughly 240 work days per year. And I don't know anybody working that 240 day schedule that goes to work at 7:30 and gets off at 3:30. That's before i get into night shifts, weekends, and working outdoors. The obvious fact is that teaching school is no harder than going to school was as a kid. And no working person has ever said "jeez, I'm so glad that I got out of school... the real world is so much tougher than attending class m-f 8-3 with thanksgiving, christmas, spring break, and the summer off. That was just terrible." So YES. It's a part time job.
  11. I just found the screenshots... My take...Sometimes people have valid points, but they get lost in the delivery BECAUSE of biases. As someone who typically doesn't have a problem criticizing anybody regardless of the color of their skin, it SEEMS like the Dr. is speaking from a place of bias. I think that he hit upon some points that are valid, but whenever you start painting people with a broad brush, you're making a mistake. That's the kind of talk that I used to hear when I was younger from older people. It's okay to criticize Audwin Samuel.... He's not a good leader in my opinion. It's okay to criticize Mouton as well... especially when the only real attribute that I've heard anybody express is that she's "the first black female mayor." That's not exactly a ringing endorsement, and I don't even care because I don't know if West is any better. But anybody that ran out and voted for "the old white guy" is equally ignorant as the person who ran out and voted for "the black woman." The fact of the matter is that a LOT of the black community DOES believe that they are owed something. Call it reparations, 40 acres and a mule, a living wage, "rights" like a free cell phone, healthcare, housing, food, etc.. and the Dr. isn't wrong. But he is wrong in that a lot of people who AREN'T black have the same beliefs. It's not surprising to see someone who emigrated here 40 years ago and went on to become a doctor being less than impressed with people who have no interest in rising above, except by means of having their entitlements expanded. But if he can't recognize that people of all races have those same flaws, not just young black people, then the statements are indeed racist. In my opinon, for what it's worth.
  12. "Hey! I like what's gone down in Port Arthur... maybe we can do the same thing here!" When you see "progress" on the AT&T building/Riverfront, just ride down and see how much government investing in "quality of life" projects has gone. Pleasure Island, Ford Park, Crockett Street.... Some people come into office and want to do a good job with police, fire, roads, sewers, etc... Other people want to waste tax dollars on things that the private sector would never invest in, and then put their name all across the front of it, lol. I don't have a problem with Mouton, I think that she, just like the re-election of some members of the BISD board show that the electorate in Beaumont is ignorant and outright destruction will follow. But I only base that on having witnessed it happen over and over again. Congrats on being the "first" of whatever you are.
  13. Educators collectively overestimate the value of their profession and always have. It's a part time job.
  14. If it wasn't weed, it would be crack cocaine, crystal meth, heroin, prostitues, gang turf, or sneakers. The human life used to mean something in our civilization. It wasn't worth as much in third world countries. In some areas a human life still isn't worth any more than a pound of weed, and that's sad.
  15. I was curious also... the article said "that some people might find racist." I have a nasty feeling that the only thing "racist" about his postings is that he criticized a person of color.
  16. Not for being white... you'd be labeled a white supremacist and you'd probably lose your job for attending. I don't think I'm exaggerating.
  17. I thought Rowe was gonna be HFC/AD? Can anybody clarify?
  18. If I die with a wife but no will, she inherits my stuff. If I die with a live-in gf but no will, she’s at the mercy of my kids. I can add my wife to my health insurance, but a gay man can’t add his life partner. The list goes on and on. I believe that homosexuality is a sin, but I also believe that there’s no reason (other than my personally held convictions regarding homosexuality) why gay couples can’t have the same civil rights as long term Herero couples who want to make a commitment to one another. But I don’t think that my Priest should be sued if he doesn’t want to bless their homo Union. I’m a hoot at parties.
  19. Negative, Ghost Rider. Costs had been a runaway train and too many people have no coverage because it was unaffordable. Obamacare just made it all worse. The problem is that half of the country believes that they should get healthcare and someone else should pay for it. I’ll let you guess which half is which.
  20. In the old days people wanted equality of opportunity. Now they want JUSTICE for something that they never experienced. Justice typically means somebody's gonna get punished. Don't get me wrong. We're all equal in the eyes of God, and should be in the eyes of man. I'm not at all complaining about much deserved Civil Rights for EVERYBODY. I just think that the wheels have fallen off at this point, at least as far as racially, and probably in regards to LGBTQ issues as well. I've never heard of a good reason why gay couples who wanted to be married shouldn't have been afforded the same rights and benefits as hetero married couples.
  21. Don't even get me started... Every Republican from the Presidential Candidates to City Council Members ran upon the promise of "repeal and replace." Rand Paul was like "I'm not so sure" and nobody has breathed a word about it since. Healthcare is a mess, Obamacare is a disaster, and the Republicans have no idea of how to fix it. The end.
  22. Why don't we celebrate when the last slaves in Northern States were freed? Hint... I was long after the Emancipation Proclamation and even AFTER Juneteenth. But don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.
  23. I guess so, if you also think it's important to celebrate every time a person is the "first" of their sex, race, hair color, religion or other characteristic does something that's already been done a bunch of times.
