  1. For me, not Smash... It's two-pronged. We're (well, most of us) were taught from an early age to shut our mouths, close our eyes, and bow our heads when somebody is praying, and we're taught to stand and remove our hats when they play the anthem. It's just a sacred thing, I guess. I get the same feeling watching players "protest" during the anthem that I do when I see someone burning our flag. An analogy would be someone that talks during a moment of silence to prove a point... Kap is trying to win support for his argument by basically disrespecting a lot of peoples' deeply held values. I can't explain it. The whole black power fist doesn't bother me at all, other than thinking "meh... it kinda mars your moment of accomplishment, but whatever." Secondly, as a human with a business degree, it makes literally no sense to insult your customers. I mean, everybody likes a bad guy in pro wrestling, but I don't think that's what Kap was trying to do by protesting. We do a little PR work, and I promise that if I decided to bring my own personal beliefs on any subject into the workplace and my end result was to drive off business.... I shouldn't be surprised if the boss lets me go. It's just common sense. The idea that you take a giant dump on most of your employers' customers and therefore find yourself without a place to work, except you once again blame "racism" as the reason is just unfathomable. And it detracts from the original argument, that there is still injustice and oppression. Because the fact that no NFL team can use you because your actions alienated so many of their fans isn't racism.... it's just stupidity.
  2. You are correct.... but it's hard to get real upset about what happened on 1/6 if you support what happened in the race riots following George Floyd's unfortunate end. Some of us sit over here and think: 1. Kap is wrong, but is entitled to his opinion. But if his employer (because of the displeasure of the paying customers) wants the protesting to stop.... Kap should have stopped. Most of us are taught to show respect for the flag, the anthem, law enforcement, the military, etc.... if your whole plan for protest is to say "Bah.... those things that you hold dear to your heart are stupid" your plan isn't very well thought out. If your goal is to unite, why protest in a manner that causes more people to lose sympathy for your plight? 2. There is no justification for rioting or looting. Protesting is one thing. Crawling through a broken plate glass window to take that Sopranos box set and some sneakers just makes you a thug. 3. What happened at the Capital on 1/6 was wrong. It was completely predictable, totally avoidable, and embarrassing to rational people everywhere.
  3. Yep.... crickets. It's so much more comforting to blame one's own failures on others. I'll just keep you marked down as one of those people who believe that every one of life's misfortunes and bad decisions can be explained by "racism."
  4. I've got a niece that is really driven... she began teaching high school/coaching, got her Masters, and is now a mom, HS counselor and flips houses on the side. She doesn't understand what all of the complaining is about.
  5. Also became the 45th President-the most powerful man on earth. Not too shabby for a grifter...
  6. ...often leads by the courthouse." I can't believe that nobody has started a thread on Trump Org and its CFO being indicted in New York. I remember a certain somebody predicting (accurately, it now seems) that Trump would spend the rest of his time/fortune trying to stay out of jail.
  7. Let's be honest... the problem isn't with a word that you hear and use at practice every day (and all day, honestly) with people that look like you. Your problem is actually that you don't like who's saying the exact same word on Friday night. And if you think "racism" is getting a little smack thrown back at you by a "white boy" or a "cracker," then you don't know what racism is. Seriously, though... if a kid from Vidor, Lum, or even BC can use this magical word that would make their opponent lose his head/focus and potentially get himself tossed out of the game.... you wouldn't use it? I say it's about culture. One group teaches their kids "sticks and stones" and the other group teaches their kids that words can either be offensive or not offensive based on the color of the speaker's skin. So tell me... which group ends up handicapped?
  8. That's been my experience as well... And I've always felt like much of Vidor's "past" was simply fiction. Seriously... We've all heard about the "sundown" sign. Isn't it crazy that there isn't a single photo of it? Certainly somebody, somewhere would have snapped an old polaroid pic, right? Nope. Not a one. Don't get me wrong, there ARE crazies everywhere, and possibly more in some places in others. But they NEVER outnumber the good people who won't stand to see others mistreated.
  9. I don’t know if you’re just refusing to admit the obvious or don’t recognize it. Literally every area that decriminalized marijuana/drug usage now has an exploding homelessness problem.
  10. Here's the problem.... As a nation we've fought the British, the Native Americans, the French, Mexico, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea, Germany, Italy, Japan, even each other... that's not even mentioning the entire cold war. And nobody holds any grudges against those people... But we're supposed to believe that we all still hate black people because we're upset that the North turned our great-great-great-great grandpappys' slaves lose 150+ years ago? Don't get me wrong... There are some people that believe that white people are superior to black people. They're a very, very, very small minority of white people, and they account for practically NONE of the problems facing the black community today. Serious question.... There's no way to accurately gauge it, but what percentage of the problems facing the black community can be attributed to racism, and what percentage can be considered self-inflicted in your opinion? I guarantee that you won't give your opinion on that one.
  11. Right? Have fun working at HEB, sir.
  12. A wrecker driver told me that he was the first on scene at a single car wreck... the driver had struck a tree. Nobody was in the car and he realized that the windshield was blown out. He starts searching around in front of the car and found the driver lying flat on his stomach, toes in the dirt..... except his face was pointed straight up the sky... Head was absolutely on backwards... the wrecker driver said that the victim (drunk) was like "hey, man.... can you help me up?" The wrecker guy said that he ran back to his truck and waited for the amber lamps/po-po to show up.
  13. Some people don't want help... They like the hustle, bustle, and freedom that comes with that lifestyle. Or they'd just rather do drugs than conform with society. I think it's laughable that the homeless problem is worsening at the same time that we are legalizing weed across the country and nobody wants to draw that conclusion. It's all just a coincidence, I guess.... even though the homeless problems are worse in areas where drug use is more tolerated.
  14. Ok.... when the key component in the definition is "superiority" and your made up one is "skin color." And you're probably one of those "somebody owes me 40 acres and a mule" people despite being a fifth generation whose very existence only occurs because the rest of us pay our income taxes.
  15. Why is it always black people protesting for greater gifts from the public treasury?
  16. Okay… so why didn’t you bother to quote the definition of racism?
  17. I read an article a few years back about a crew that had bought a legit van and painted it to exactly match a UPS van. They got caught because a police officer noticed that the guy driving was a straight up vato.... flannel shirt, bandana, etc.... slouched down in the seat instead of wearing a fake uniform.
  18. Well, that was before half of Port Arthur showed up to file claims. There were some really damaged structures near the plant. There were also people miles away claiming damage that was obviously not related to the blast. Then there were a lot of people who exaggerated damage trying to get a complete home renovation. It really slowed down what the company could do to help people who actually sustained damage from the blast. The end result is that the refinery will not be rebuilt and the community will have to find other ways to fund their needs once the deep pockets have left town.
  19. I have a friend that was buying coke in Houston and taking it to Chicago and tripling his money in the early 90s. Just a lucrative road trip. His scheme was that he owned a wrecker and would literally drag a car up there and leave it behind. They're not going to stop a wrecker hauling a junker, right? Wrong. One day he picks up a hitchhiker and THEN gets pulled over for speeding. The cop has them both out of the truck and eventually asks if they have any contraband.... and this hitchhiker starts kicking around at the ground and stammers that he actually has some week in his backpack. My friend is pretty quick on his feet so he starts yelling at the hitchhiker and eventually jumps on him. "Do you know what they're going to do to me? I gave you a ride and now I'm going to jail with you!!!" The cop gets them separated and my buddy jumps on the hitchhiker again and the cop is like "Boy, you need to get in that truck and get on down the road.... I've got this under control." So the hitchhiker was in custody when my buddy drove off with the real weight stowed in that car he was towing. He did make it to the pen eventually, btw. So I guess it has a happy ending.
  20. It's the same on both sides of the aisle. You can dig into the Clinton Foundation and see the same sort of shenanigans. The Obamas sure seem to have done pretty well while they were in office, too. To be honest, I can only think of one president who deferred his salary, and I have a hard time accepting that you're pushing me into defending that guy.
  21. Since they do a suspicious activity report any time you have a cash transaction over $10k, this guy should have no problem identifying where all of his cash originated.... if he did so legally. ALSO, I've always heard that if the vehicle was stopped just outside Walden Road on I10 (as most are), that's a sting. A bad guy already told the police who was coming, what they were driving, and what they were carrying. That's just the safest spot for a controlled stop in Jeffco. Any truth to that rumor, TVC?
  22. That's the comical part... if you polled wait staff and asked if they'd rather make $2.13 plus tips (guaranteed minimum wage if tips are inadequate) or $15/hour, they'd all say "TIPS!!!!" at once.
  23. I don't even have a dog, but it's legit. I've had several over the years that would just go bananas when they saw black people. It's really embarrassing.
