  1. Lol.... They have their hands full with schools like us and Orangefield on their down years. I think you are the one that isn't understanding what I'm saying... Everybody knows who Mike Tyson was. At the same time that he was the heavyweight world champion, there was an undisputed 115 lb. champion walking around, too-but nobody could name him, then or now. Newton's accomplishments are fantastic and worthy of tons of respect. But 3A championships are kinda like WNBA championships... only the unhinged would try to claim that a NBA championship to a WNBA championship are equal. That's the whole point of this conversation... whose a better powerhouse? A school with 5 small school championships or 4 bigger school championships. Oh... an one of them has the highest winning percentage in TXHSFB.
  2. I’m sure that they do... if not, they should. I agree that State Championships are a super accomplishment no matter the level. But you can’t honestly say that a 3A State championship means the same thing as a 6A Championship. Everything from the quality of facilities to the number of fans and even the freaking halftime shows are absolutely not worth comparing. The level of play is on completely different planets, the athletes available are so much better, coaching is better, and the quality of competition that must be beaten to earn a championship is undeniably stacked in favor of the larger schools. I’ll spell it out like this. Newton is a great small school that does a good job of playing at the level of good larger teams during Newton’s good years. On Newton’s bad years they’re a lot more beatable by average bigger programs. That’s not a knock on Newton. The problem is that everybody knows that Newton is gonna roll straight over their district opponents and deep into the playoffs without ever facing the kind of talent that exists in 4A and 5A districts. It absolutely knocks some of the shine off of those trophies. That’s not Newton’s fault.... that’s just how it is. There were some featherweight fights on a couple of weeks ago, but we were all watching Fury-Wilder. Go to the dirt track on a Saturday night. They run the bombers first and the hottest, fastest cars run at the end of the night. True, the guy in that old beat-up Monte Carlo might have won his class, but the guy in the World of Outlaws winged sprint car is the big winner that night.
  3. If WOS played in Newton's classification, they'd have won state every year since 1977. If Newton played in WOS's classification, their record would look like ours. Newton has more SCs, but it took them a hundred+ years to get them. WOS's are all recent. Newton is a really good small school. Probably considered a great school for it's size. But nobody cares who was the NCAA Division 2 or JuCo Champion. Winning 3AD2 titles brings the same kind of respect.
  4. Silsbee recently.... Jasper overall. I'm really glad to see Officer Barbrady agree to face Los Tigres again. I don't think records even matter when one school is scared to line 'em up.... the dawgs were answering this question for us by hiding from Silsbee. I'm really glad to see this one back on the schedule.
  5. I don’t think we’re gonna take down North Shore.
  6. A friend of mine referenced an article a while back that basically said that no matter which side of the spectrum your beliefs fall, both sides have seen their own savaged repeatedly so it’s just acceptable at this point. It goes back to Nixon, if not farther. Think about it. Nixon was a crook. Carter was a terrible leader. Reagan supported the rich and had Iran-Contra. Bush raised taxes and didn’t finish the Gulf War. Clinton had Whitewater and Lewinsky, Bush started the Iran/Afghanistan wars and was seated when the recession of ‘08 kicked in. Obama gave us Obamacare and reined in growth with anti-business policies.... not to mention the fact that a lot of people didn’t like him because of who he was. Lord knows that Trump deserves tons of criticism, but the amount that he’s given is just too much. Until both sides agree that people with opposing views aren’t “the opposition,” we’ll just keep on electing people just to destroy them, never realizing that we’re only destroying our own fortunes.
  7. Yeah, but science only has to worry about science. The CDC’s main focus is making sure that not a single person more is infected. They’ll recommend taking whatever steps are necessary to make sure that transmission of this virus is stopped. In the real world, leaders have to balance the CDC’s very focused suggestions on disease control with the practical needs of the community as a whole. it’s be great if we could send everybody home for 56 days of complete and total isolation, but people still need to eat. Trucks need to make deliveries, shelves must be stocked, streets patrolled, People are about to realize why having a savings account equal to six months months living expenses is so much better than having an iPhone 11, a new car, and a dozen pairs of Jordans. Later... gotta go tend to my garden.
  8. Let's see.... Vidor tended to stay in the mix in 5A and Lumberton didn't. I don't see those levels of performance changing.
  9. “Whitest District in Texas.” Livingston takes this easily.
  10. The spread is a DISASTER if you don’t have a qb. That’s been one of our problems.... no qb development. Kids with arms in BC want to pitch for the cards exclusively.
  11. Nah... I’m not sure what we’re trying to do.
  12. I think you'd have to put Silsbee high atop the list. The basketball titles, recent football success, and consistently competitive baseball program convinced me. I thought we were finally turning the corner in '16 when we won district in all but one sport (I can't remember which one... jk, it was boys basketball), but that wasn't the case. Don't kid yourself... a solid AD can make a difference across all sports.
  13. Lumberton recently won their first ever playoff game in basketball. The school board reacted swiftly by firing the super. The community is well aware that winning starts at the top, so they wanted to nip "winning" in the bud.
  14. That was subtle irony... we don’t see many of those down heah...
  15. You realize that we play WOS pretty much every year, right? We have also squared up with talented squads like Newton and Silsbee... and occassionally (but not often) we're competitive. So we do play teams with talent... a lot of times we're facing much more athletically talented squads. The whole reason that this thing veered so far off of topic is that I was questioning BISD's selection for the new head coach at BU and somebody started with the "would BC beat either squad?" No, and we'd kick all of the crap out of High Island in our worst year. Same difference... and it's okay. Like I said... there are a lot of talented kids that play(ed) for Ozen, Central, and now BU that I feel are being cheated out of an opportunity to succeed by another puzzling hiring decision by BISD admins. It's nothing new.
  16. So.... We've got a better record than all but one of the schools I've mentioned, and a state championship as well. And we've never even come close to having a fraction of the talent that walks around those campuses. You've made my case for me. Thank you, kind Sir. We haven't had any Tony Browns or Calvin Tylers over here, if you know what I mean. But I can also say that as a baseball first, "run decent football coaches out of town" kinda school.... we still wouldn't hire a guy that was 0-30.
  17. Ummmm.... I think that was the “what if” game you were playing when you asked if we could beat either of those much, much larger schools in BISD. And this topic was about the search for a new coach, not football in particular. My problem is this... West Brook has had modest success while Central, Ozen, and now United have been sucking hind tit for a lot longer than two years. If you’d like to compare any of those three schools all-time records to ours, I’m game. The amazing thing is that those BISD schools I mentioned have had tons and tons of talented athletes, the likes of which BC has not. So.... you start doing the math. You guys have tons of talent, but no success. The key missing ingredient is coaching, IMO. The initial hire at BU was underwhelming to say the least... then they turn around and hire a guy that sporting a modest 0-30 record as a head coach. The dumpster fire that I speak of is BISD administration. The lack of success in football (aside from West Brook) is just a product of that dysfunction. I’m not dogging the kids at BU or the program itself. From the outside looking in it appears that they are literally being set up to fail by administration.
  18. In standardized testing? Yes....Without our calculators. If we had your enrollment, I have no doubt that we would pin your kids’ ears back, just like your old 5A D2 district did. Serious question... how have y’all historically done so little with so much talent? I think y’all had nine kids get scholarships last year and two wins to show for it? I’d like to think it’s an aberration (noun... a departure from what is normal, usual or expected), but history indicates clearly that this is nothing new.
  19. Wow. Can anybody imagine the response on the Reservation if PNG admin signed a dude that was most recently 0-30, alum or not? BISD is still a dumpster fire. I take back all of the bad things I've ever said about kids transferring out of BISD for Silsbee or whatever.
  20. Week 11 with the DC on the line.... I like it. Lol.
