  1. It’s all fun and games until the state takes y’all over and forces y’all to be a part of LCMISD and they gut your athletic department. They gonna hire a coach for y’all that Crouch can beat. *edit* there’s a good game tomorrow. I should stick to the subject. I’ll clean it up from here on.
  2. From a pure football perspective that whole thing was an abortion. We had good (for us) squad that year and were hoping we’d finally manage to knock WOS. Turns out that WOS also had a really good (for them, lol) squad that year and we got them to play like the most motivated and focused WOS team ever, and we were down a couple of players, too. There was only one flag for a personal foul by WOS that entire night and it was late in the game. They were absolutely determined to square things up between the whistles. In retrospect (and without my homer glasses) I think that they were an honest 14-21 points better than us type of team that year, and we motivated them to kick the everliving crap out of us instead. I don’t remember how many they scored but I remember that we missed a fg and got blanked. That game almost ruined our season... we got shelled again the next week by a pretty weak (for Newton) group of Eagles. Our kids were still reeling from that WOS debacle. We were lucky to have two consecutive bye weeks immediately after to get refocused and run through district (including one of Silsbee’s pretty decent squads) and play on Thanksgiving weekend. That whole WOS fiasco still makes me shake my head every time I think about it.
  3. Beats the heck out of getting beat by way bigger, but yet sorry for their size schools. I’d much rather match up with district rivals like you guys, HJ, OF, HF, WOS, etc.... than to square up with Navasota, Cleveland, Huffman, Splendora, or Livingston. Hopefully we can still get in with LiCk’eM in non district. I heard that Jasper is opting up to avoid being placed in district with Silsbee.
  4. I’ve got to admit... you’ve jumped out to an early lead.
  5. I’m really considering making my way to the Butch to spectate this contest. I can’t really pick a winner this early on, but I’m willing to make an offer. Which program should I support this week? The winning program will have Cardinalbacker in attendance wearing the colors of their school as well as all of my online support by way of heckling the other team and their fans. Think about it... regardless of the outcome of the game, you’ll already have won by having me on your side. Let the bidding begin.
  6. This matchup is turning into a little bit more of a rivalry where you can toss records and rankings out the window right at kickoff. Those are the best kind of games.
  7. About as much as our one for cross country and one act play. You won’t see people packing out Jerry world to watch a chemistry exam or basketball game. Football is where it’s at.
  8. It just kinda feels like Silsbee’s peaking at the right time. Plus I can’t imagine how the WOS faithful will react if they get knocked out by Silsbee two years in a row. I’m still on the fence on this one. Should be a fine contest. I’m thinking about making the drive over to the Butch myself.
  9. We beg to differ. You can’t be one of the big dogs like WOS, Newton, PNG, or BC until you win an SC in tackle football.
  10. Well... we can count on Aggies and the Silsbee coaching staff to see this matter through to a resolution.
  11. Let’s just say that WOS beat us but Silsbee didn’t.
  12. Too many nice facilities nearby to end up taking this one to Houston. Stangs are gonna be primed for this one... rain, sun, or snow... Silsbee had better snug up them chinstraps. Great matchup... I’m excited!
  13. I’ll be danged. Before the season I thought that this would just about be the ceiling for Newton this year. I ended up revising my forecast upwards after Newton did so well in non-district. Nothing to be ashamed of considering what all was lost from that 2018 team/staff. I wish a “bad” year for us was a third round exit. Newton will be back before long.
  14. I suspect that the voters were tired of picking JD over and over. Plus that Tyler kid from Ozen put up some crazy yards en route to a runner up district campaign and first round playoff exit that year.
  15. Obviously the right choice was made as The Legendary Jack Dallas lead the Mustangs to three state championship games and a much deserved Willie Ray Smith Award over lesser players such as that one qb from Silsbee who nobody can remember.
  16. Oh, they won the game... but they still went home with a truckload of hurt feelings according to Woodshed and his boy. You know, "crooked refs" and "cheap shots" and "twisted ankles." Typical crybaby stuff. I told Woodshed that they'd better toughen up or they wouldn't be around past the second round. I was right, btw.
  17. Well, obviously the rankings were wrong, lol. Y'all suck as bad as we do, apparently.
  18. The DEC wouldn't make that ruling unless the coach indicated that he believed the transfer was for athletic reasons, if I'm not mistaken, right? And I agree... can't believe this is out there while the team in still in the playoffs.
  19. That would be REALLY shady of Silsbee to complain about a move after all of the transfers in that you guys have enjoyed over the years.
  20. This.... the community support up there is unwavering as well. Not just in terms of facilities, but in support for coaches, salaries, etc, etc.... All of that Deep East Texas Oil Money on the tax rolls doesn't hurt a bit, either. I like to think of Carthage as Newton with a little bit o' money. *edit* And teeth.
