  1. It's all relative.... If you gain some housing out on 1442 but lose some older housing due to homes NOT rebuilt after flooding in 08 and 17, you can stay pretty static. It also makes difference if you have more homes but fewer people living in each of those homes. The old "Mom, Dad, and three or more kids" scenario in each home doesn't really play out so much anymore. A lot of Bridge City (especially the older areas) is made up of retirement aged population where the kids have moved on, and now it's just the Mom and Dad by themselves. The homes in Bridgefield tend to be pretty spread out with 1+ acre lots. I'd be amazed if the entire development out there on 1442 totaled 700 acres, and those places aren't very densely populated. If you look at Westwood in Lumberton where the houses are jammed on top of each other, you'd see a lot larger population growth. It really comes down to how closely the new homes are placed, etc... One other point that's lost on a lot of people is that the classifications continue to grow. Silsbee didn't drop down a classification because of a decrease, but rather the lower line moved up again, if my memory is correct.... but that's not saying anything.
  2. Is this true or speculation? I haven’t seen any proposed actual location.
  3. Don't nobody wanna play the whitest school in Texas? [Hidden Content] Annnnnnnnnd...... go!
  4. Don't just assume that the project is in Lumberton ISD. Bear Creek and I think Rock Ridge are both out that way and at least one of them is in HJISD. You don't have to go very far past the city park to get into Hardin-Jefferson's territory. Does anybody know for sure?
  5. I don't remember Briles ordering anybody to go rape anybody else. I mean, I get that you've run out of reasonable arguments, but this one is a stretch. Manson died in prison. NOBODY is arguing that Briles even committed a crime. Nobody had more to gain from the Baylor fiasco than UT, so I get where you're coming from. You guys were able to climb back to the top of.... wait, had the opportunity to climb back out of the Big 12 cellar. Kind of a shame that you didn't.
  6. The only one I remembered was Shawn Oakman and he was found not guilty earlier this Spring. He was predicted to be taken by the third round of the NFL draft but was never selected because of his (at that time) pending legal problems. I cant say if he’s a good dude or not, and the courts found him not guilty of those charges.... he still paid a pretty heavy price, regardless. #metoo #believeher #womenneverlie #heprobablydeserveditanyway
  7. No, that's absolutely not the right thing to do. I would go as far as saying if somebody has been indicted by a grand jury, then you could justify considering a suspension. I don't know where you work. How would you feel if tomorrow morning you were fired, escorted from the premises, and forbidden to ever work in your current field because somebody made an false accusation about you? My guess is that you would have an instant change of your opinion regarding due process. In fact, my guess is that IF some unnamed girl accused your team's RB or QB of some sort of sexual assault the week of the first round of the playoffs, you'd suddenly be able to see the inherent unfairness of your opinion. Do you know how many people were accused of rape? 31. Do you know how many were convicted? 2. How many of those accusations were made by people who didn't get a call back after bedding a cute athlete of some sort? If you believe rape happens, then you also have to believe my scenario happens as well. So you guys are cool with ruining the lives of 29 people, when the evidence presented didn't even merit a conviction? Nice. Very nice. [Hidden Content]
  8. That's the story. Surratt got sued by the accuser as well, if I recall correctly. They'll never be able to get a judgment against him, IMO, though, because we used to have a thing in this country called "due process...." You see, a person, even a big scary dark-skinned athlete, is still innocent until proven guilty. So while all of the #metoo think we should all #believeher just because an allegation is leveled.... they are fundamentally wrong. You can't deprive a person of their rights just because an allegation is leveled, unless you, as a coach, would like to be sued for that reason. Let's pretend to be coaches. Girl makes accusation against player. Coach can either wait until the actual investigating authorities come to a conclusion, as would be sensible, but then they face lawsuits from the accusers. On the other hand, they can crush a kid's career because of the unproven allegations and face lawsuits from players who have had THEIR rights trampled. I mean, either way you're getting sued, but you're going to lose your job if your team doesn't perform. So which is it?
  9. [Hidden Content] It's kinda crazy.... I don't see where the actual investigators blamed Briles... In fact, most of the report was about the university as a whole, not the football program. So.... I guess you all agree that the head coach of a certain local high school should be banished forever from the coaching profession back in 2008? Anybody that follows me knows that I can't stand that school, but I'll be the first person to say that the head coach had no responsibility in what did or didn't happen before football players started jumping out of bedroom windows. I'll even go further and say that IF somebody came to me, as a coach, and reported thirdhand that such a thing had happened, I still don't think I'm dialing 911. Which is pretty much what Briles is accused of doing.
  10. Okay... I'll bite. What EXACTLY did Briles do? The evidence clearly indicates that young women (and since it's Baylor we're talking about, probably some young men, too) were sexually abused. Come to find out, some of them were attacked by football players. Therefore, the man who draws up the plays for the team should never work again? Jesus. Help me understand his culpability, please. Let's pretend that I manage a McDonalds. Three of the kids that work back there cooking for me decide to go and rob a liquor store. Suddenly I'm supposed to lose my store and never hold down another job? That's kinda sorta what people want from Briles.
  11. To further illustrate, I'd say it like this.... Mark McGuire was hammered for being a cheater in the mid-late nineties. Him and Sammy were the poster children for PED abuse. History has kinda shown that that might have been a little over top to label him as such, because we now see that it was happening pretty much everywhere. Sexual abuse is huge problem at college campuses nationwide.... and it's not just the athletes that are guilty of doing those type of things. There are plenty of "bros" in Polo Shirts, khaki shorts, and golf visors doing the same things Thursday-Saturday at any university out there. Somehow Baylor gets tagged as an academy for rapists.
  12. Of course I'm not saying it's okay... but a person would be extremely naive to believe that this type of thing happened only at Baylor. It happens everywhere, and frequently. Baylor just got tagged as ground zero.
  13. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the basketball team at Baylor killing one another long before Briles ever got to Baylor? You can hear stories about the same stuff happening at any university. The difference is that it's a lot easier to tee off on a private institution like Baylor (especially one with deep, deep pockets) than it is to take on one like say, Lamar or any other state school.
  14. PAISD spends more per student than any other ISD in Texas. That's a lot of "care" that isn't yielding results that anybody would brag about. High taxes and new construction don't show care... Having kids with with your wife does. Not being on welfare does, too. Making sure to get your affairs in order before starting a family shows a ton of "care." Staying out of prison and taking care of your responsibilities shows a LOT of care. Holding down a job that provides health insurance for your kid(s) is a great sign of affection. Voting for a tax increase that will covered by your neighbors and industry is a really, really lazy way to show how much a person cares about their kids. My thing is this.... People have different opinions. The fact is that your opinion over what I should do with my money is not needed. That's the whole problem with tax-and-spenders.... they always believe that they can change the world and make it a better place.... all they need is everybody else's money.
  15. I don’t want to sound all negative, but we’re screwed (at least in my way of thinking) regardless. Recent studies show that 4 out of 10 Americans look favorably upon socialism. Those aren’t the old ones.... it’s just a mathematical certainty that as the older voters die,, they’ll be replaced by more voters who were raised to receive a trophy just for showing up. They’ll vote for any and every big tax project (See Nederland bond issue) with no regard for cost or consequences. Just that the reward is somehow “deserved.” Whether it’s a poor family that believe they deserve food, shelter, cash, and a phone... college graduates that believe their college debts should be forgiven.... or retirees who can’t correlate the amounts of their SS/Medicare contributions to the actual cash outlays in today’s dollars... or immigrants coming here to enroll in our benefits programs. We’re in trouble, and the electoral college isn’t going to matter much longer.
  16. Michael Vick went to federal prison for killing three of his own dogs. But the left celebrates abortion.... it’s insane.
  17. It was honestly done because at the time of the constitutional congress, news traveled exceptionally slow. It took days to tally votes locally... the electoral college gave a transparent way to show locals that their voice was being heard, instead of some shady backroom tally like the ones in FL in 2000. It was done so that a rep from South Carolina could get on a horse and go to the capital and express the will of his people at a later date. And also to make sure that calmer heads could prevail if we all took our freedom to seriously and elected a whacko.
  18. Here's my unsolicited opinion. I personally feel that abortion is immoral. That's just my opinion, and it's no more valid than any of those that approve of abortions. Until recently I've felt that a person should probably have a right to choose whether or not they want to terminate their pregnancy. I don't agree with their choice, but Roe v. Wade gave us confirmation from the Judiciary that an abortion prohibition was unconstitutional. Fast forward to 2012 when the Democrats made a plank in their platform that a woman is entitled to an abortion regardless of her ability to pay. Meaning that all of us will be required to subsidize abortions with the fruits of our own labors. (As if that's not what PP is already doing). If that's what pro-choice means, then I suppose I've been wrong all along and nobody is entitled to choose if they want an abortion, since the Ds believe their choice means I need to swing by the abortion clinic and cover that tab myself. How does someone's right to choose whether or not to terminate their own pregnancy overrule my choice as whether I should pay for an abortion that I am vehemently opposed to? If you ask me, the Ds have more blame in this recent rash of abortion restrictions than the Rs..... the Ds just took it too far for normal people who were opposed but unmotivated.
  19. I blame income inequality and systemic racism. You know, it's not fair that she has a mobile home park and I don't. She needs to be quiet and pay her fair share. *sarcasm*
  20. To properly address the WH situtation, which is actually the point here... I'd offer this. If you live in Mid-County and so many of the parents have good-paying careers in the petrochemical industry, and the females can easily work at just about any decent-paying industry that they choose... banking, nursing, etc..... you end up with a community that doesn't begrudge teacher salaries to large extent. In the Batson/Saratoga metro area (lol), I'd assume that most families have an annual income less than the salaries that are being decried here. It makes a difference. I spent part of my youth in a tiny ISD in which my Dad was actually on the school board for a while. It's hard to pitch higher salaries for teachers and coaches when the citizens are breaking their backs year around in the oil fields, logging woods, or commuting to Houston and still making less than the school marm. FWIW, I have the same reaction to the full time McDonald's workers who demand $15/hour.
