  1. Okay... I've ignored you so far because there's no way you're serious. In fact, I had to skip my morning coffee just to slow my brain down enough to respond. Your assessment is faulty. The girls that work at daycares make $10/hour to babysit a room full of kids. In fact, they also feed them and wipe hineys. So, a similarly ridiculous argument would be is that school teachers should make LESS than daycare workers because teachers don't have to do work nearly as hard to take physical care of their students. I'll bounce some similar math at you. $40,000 per year/182 days per year comes to roughly $220/day. Divide that by the seven hours per day that teachers actually work 8-3:30 (I'm graciously giving credit for the conference period where teachers drink coffee in the lounge instead of grading papers) and you come out to just over $30/hour... which seems to be in line for a non-hazardous, climate controlled job with no weekends or nights that DOES require the easiest of college degrees.
  2. I honestly didn't think we'd even come close to agreeing on anything. But I think we just had a moment. Teachers comparing their salaries to those of full-time salaries is exactly like those WNBA players saying that they DESERVE salaries like Lebron and Steph Curry.
  3. The exception is that WE all pay teachers' salaries. I choose who to buy a car from. I choose which doctor to see. I decide where to shop for groceries. Those people EARN my business. Teachers just show up, work a part time gig, and demand more money from the people who didn't even hire them. It's kinda like when politicians get elected and then give themselves raises. They knew the salary when they ran for office. Teachers knew what to expect, but they preferred a 8-3:30, M-F, seasonal job that offers benefits and an early retirement. Great. So you got what you wanted, stop complaining. Like I said... take two weeks off per year like the rest of us... until then you don't have a full-time job, so stop crying that you don't make as much money as the people who chose career paths that require full-time participation.
  4. I was just like “yeah! This guy gets it!” Then I realized it was I who dropped that wisdom. Can you imagine a scenario where you’d complain directly to your boss in a public forum that you deserve more money? Or that others would chime in and harangue your employer that you deserve more money. Instead of griping about pay, teachers should be thanking the public for financing their lazy lifestyle. Heres the deal. I have a job (like most people) that is directly to my production. If I want to make more money, make more widgets... or promote into managing widget makers... or start my own widget company. Teachers have no quanitifiable product... and they don’t want one. That’s why they hate the STAAR test. It’s not about having to “teach for the testing” it’s because standardized testing FINALLY holds teachers accountable for their own performance. Then all of the teachers scream “we can’t help it... blame the parents!” Teachers collectively overestimate the value of their profession.
  5. If you went to school and got a bachelors degree so that you could take up a part time job that you’re really, REALLY passionate about... that’s not my problem. i’ll get you on board with the “teachers aren’t paid enough” argument when they start going to school all year. Until then all arguments to the contrary are a joke.
  6. Are you actually gonna compare babysitting to roughnecking?
  7. If a person is lucky enough to find full time work in 2019, he or she will HOPEFULLY get to work 5 days a week for 52 weeks. Because for a lot of people, no work means no pay. So, 260 days per year. The typical teacher works a 182 day schedule. So basically 80 fewer days per year... and let’s not even talk about the people who work shut-downs, etc. 182 days a year is a fantasy camp. Or you can break down the daily rate. 40,000/182 days is basically $220/ day. Freaking loggers don’t make that much per day. Teachers are well-paid for the amount of work that they actually do.
  8. $40,000 a year for a part time gig indoors WITH benefits and no weekends is a pretty sweet gig.
  9. Some folks know how to tend to a garden.
  10. So you're saying that there WON"T be a new admin building erected with bond funds?
  11. Somebody correct me, but I’m pretty sure they’re demolishing the high school (also the newest school in the district) and building a new one... isn’t that correct?
  12. The all-knowing Klein (Hail Klein!) came out predicting that NISD is going to throw up a new admin building that wasn't included in the bond proposal. Can we revisit the subject when they break ground on the new admin building, or the construction phase is wrapped up (without the admin building)? It'll be fun to see what actually happens.
  13. That’s what I’m talking about! Whats up with the Urban Meyer handle? It’s 2019, bruh... you can’t be supporting a coach that hires and protects woman fighters.
  14. Of course it happens... I'm not mad. I die laughing when the Newton people come back with their "living in a van down by Bailey's Fish Camp" blasts. I miss the days when upon hearing an insult, we'd fire back with one of our own. Now-a-days we just get all indignant and complain about "bullying" or "privilege" or whatever else excuse that losers can come up with. There's a big difference between some good ol' fashion "jawing" and outright abuse. Nothing in this thread has come close to that in my opinion.
  15. Ok.... If I can't criticize a team, coach, ref, player, play, penalty, past experiences, towns, etc.... What about the weather? Is it okay to bash the weather? What is this site for? Just to rah-rah my own team? I can admit that I occasionally cross "the line," but sometimes you guys are a little too touchy.
  16. I kinda hope that IF it fails, they come back with a more reasonable proposal.
  17. There was a sign on the cooler at the BC Dollar General a while back that said that the store wouldn't accept EBT payments for energy drinks. The clerk said that she'd taken several good cussings over it. It gets on my nerves that we could go to any grocery store and determine which people were paying with food stamps and which were paying with their own actual money based solely on the contents of their buggies. They need to go back to passing out eggs, butter, and cheese, if you want my opinion.
  18. I'm opposed to the death penalty, but if there was ever anybody that deserved it, this guy did.
  19. That’s not a good sign for the yes votes, IMO. Typically people don’t go stand in long lines to pay higher taxes. But they absolutely will stand in line if it means their taxes will remain low. Just an observation.
  20. I remember him wrecking shop in the Special Olympics. [Hidden Content]
  21. You’d better ask somebody. Dr. Graham had the outgoing school board sign a new three year contract before the new board was sworn in. The new board (who were elected with the pledge of firing Graham) immediately placed Graham on paid administrative leave. The board opted to pay Graham’s salary last week in their April board meeting. I’m fairly certain that Dr Graham never worked a single day. Surely you remember the change.org petition and KJAS stories from ‘17 about how the community was against Graham. Do you remember when the School Board President (Kenneth Weeks, current Newton County Judge) resigned his position? They really, REALLY wanted Graham gone... rankings or not. 22. It's gonna be interesting to see what happens. Nederland has typically been one of the most resistant to bond issues in the past. When you combine that fact with the exceptionally large price tag attached to this bond issue I believe the thing will go down. No data to support, just an observation. I also think that this one has a decent chance of passing because we (as a nation) are a lot more willing to sign up for "improvements" with little to no regard for the actual cost. It'll be interesting to see the final results.
  23. The Bayou Bowl is where it was at..... Does anybody remember the IHOP sign? It looked like an IHOP sign but it said “I Hate Orangefield People?” Good times.
