[Hidden Content] Quannel X had the same opportunity. Is it just me? I’ve gotten to where I like Qx a little bit. Don’t come close to agreeing with him, but I can’t help but respect the guy.

Best QB in Silsbee High School History??
CardinalBacker replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Football
It not like the matchup was hypothetical. JD’s Mustangs whipped Dontre’s Tigers on the field. Besides.... we all know that JD wasn’t working with an all-time great receiver like Mackey. If you ask me, without Mackey, we wouldn’t even be discussing Dontre’s numbers. Will somebody please take responsibility for that “Mackey was the best receiver from SETX ever” post after his junior year? I don’t know why I keep thinking it was Santa. -
Best QB in Silsbee High School History??

It did.... second place. The Legend of Jack Dallas was the clear choice that year. He's got a ring to prove it. -
I feel the same way about a lot of the law enforcement issues that pop up. People create tense situations and then criticize the officers' responses while under that intense pressure. I don't care how much you train or prepare someone, there's a complete and total difference between firing dummy rounds while training on a paintball course somewhere versus an instantaneous situation where someone is trying to kill you.... even if the threat isn't as real as the officer believes it to be. When I hear about "the talk" that AAs have with their kids, I'm reminded of the same exact talk that my Dad had with me. Well, almost the same. He didn't tell me the that the cops were all racist. He DID tell me that I'd better "yes, sir" and "no, sir" because they could honestly take me down a dirt road and do whatever they wanted to. He also gave me a good point about "you never know who caught their old lady in bed with somebody else this morning.... and you might be the smart_ss that he snaps on." My dad also had the belief (which I share) that the police NEED to kick the crap out of people sometimes... It's what keeps people in line. You have 15 year old kids armed with cellphones talking mad garbage to cops because they know that most officers aren't willing to give up their careers in exchange for "helping" this young person learn how to behave responsibly in a civilized society. And all of our "progress" has only made things worse. Has all of the kneeling and ambushed police officers made our inner cities any safer? No, things are worse than ever. All it's served to do is embolden the bad guys.

My guess is that the author didn't want to visit BC, lol. -

Who was the kid that had the big numbers in 15 or 16? Was that Reed? -
FWIW, I don’t know of a BC fan that claims that as a win.
-
There a big school for the classification and seem to have decent athletes, especially for a district like ours. They just don't have fans on this board, and it kinda seems like they don't really have supportive fans at all. Like the guy said. Year in and year out they field a decent team in a really nice stadium, but the stands are empty home and away.

I would hope so... I'm also curious as to whether this part of the legislation pushed through a few weeks ago (HB3, I think) that was providing for raises for all teachers in the state. I'm sorry for being a jerk on the football page.... It just makes me mad because those kids aren't stupid, they've just been let down by the grownups. A bunch of grownups who put 100% (or 112%, I suppose) behind the football program, but apparently aren't bothered by being one of the worst high schools in the state academically. I attended school in Leggett in the 1980s when only four kids graduated one year. There are schools like that all over the state that beat WOS academically. Literally only eleven high schools in Texas did worse. Big schools, small schools, inner city schools, border town schools.... almost all of whom outperformed WOS. I could understand it if we were talking about a school full of kids whose parents were migrant workers and didn't speak our language or know how to write their own. But this West Orange, Texas.... Where the support for the athletic department from the community is second to none. I don't want to make accusations, but I'll voice a speculative opinion. There's no way that a group of kids who can't pass the standardized tests can ALL pass their classes and be football and track eligible. I'd bet that good educators leave when they realize that the parents, admin, and athletic department won't tolerate any educational principles that jeopardize eligibility for extracurriculars. Once the kids realize that they don't have to worry about consequences for academic failure, they stop trying. It's just messed up, man.

Desegregation killed us. [Hidden Content] Or the fact that we never desegregated. -
Lol. I’m still calling us the Big Three.
-
Honestly, besides BC, WOS, and Newton, which other local programs have won championships? There has to be more than just the Big Three.
-
Just the one... and for what it’s worth, we would have won those same two titles y’all did if we played down in 3aD2. bam. *edit* Of course I’m kidding, before somebody loses their mind. Congratulations on your 4th and 5th JV Championships.
-
Whoever plays them first.... WOS or Silsbee. Edit: I think Silsbee gets it done on 9/6. You're talking about a State Semi-finalist from last year (in 4AII, not 3AII) that didn't lose nearly as much talent as Newton did. I know that it's easy to forget, but it was only about three seasons ago that Newton was losing to teams like BC and Orangefield, if my memory is correct. And that was with an SC caliber coach. Newton plays up to bigger competition very, VERY well. Some years (like last year) they win, and some years they just compete. I'm not calling for a blowout, but I think the Eagles will have problems with bigger schools this year compared to the last two. It's kinda like WOS strung together a fantastic run with a lot of fantastic talent, and as of last year that run kinda came to an end. I think Newton is in for the same fall back down to earth. Now, I can freely admit that I wish a bad season for us meant losing a game or two in non-district, running through the district and getting knocked out in the fourth round or so. That's about what I expect out of Newton this year.

Had anybody heard what Brown’s plans are for this fall?
-
No offense, but y’all lost T Brown and barely won the championship game. So you’re right. Losing the head coach, the OC, and all of those others studs shouldn’t be a problem.

No, TARP wasn't a tax. It was a giant expenditure of taxpayer funds, but it wasn't a tax. The "penalties" for not proving that you had healthcare coverage was a tax, despite all of the lingual gymnastics trying to prove otherwise. Tax cuts don't work without spending cuts. Without spending cuts you just run larger deficits like the 1.6 T we're heading towards for this year. The problem is this... Dems say "raise taxes and we'll give everybody more free stuff." The Republicans say "we'll cut taxes and the economy will improve." The only problem is that both sides refuse to do anything to combat their collective out-of-control spending and our debt is going to be the end of our nation. Anytime somebody mentions curbing spending, all they know how to do is shut down National Parks for the week and hold up income tax refunds. The thing is this... we can't fit 7.5 billion people inside our borders and give them all a place to live, free healthcare, free college, free food, and monthly stipend, regardless of what those 20 people have promised over the last two days. We can't even afford to give that to all of the people who already live here. Free healthcare isn't a right. You have a right to travel freely about the country. You don't have the right to a free car and free gas. Somewhere along the way we've confused what "rights" really are. We can't even provide affordable health insurance to people who are trying to pay for their own because people who try to pay for their own end up subsidizing all of the people who believe that somebody else should take care of them. We have the right to bear arms.... I wonder how many of those on stage over the last two days would support a movement to provide free weaponry to anybody who wants one?
-
I meant to quote the previous post where AIS (as a good WOS fan) predicted the Eagles to go 16-0.
-
So let me get this straight.... you guys needed a pick in the red zone to win the State Championship in December.... Then you lost your head coach, offensive coordinator, at least 3D1 players and who knows how many other seniors, but you’re a lock to repeat? Crying Newton Fan is already my favorite part of football season 2019. I can’t wait to see the tears.

Yeah.... but at there was a WOS in it. When Lumberton and Splendora are the big fish, you know you’re in a small pond. I don’t have very high expectations this year. Hope I’m wrong. -

Has there ever been a less interesting district than the one BC is in? -
If you don't know u will never know
CardinalBacker replied to MustangNation#1's topic in High School Football
I know of one that apparently has, lol. Can anybody post pics of the improvements at WOS, or at least a link to some of them? Thanks! -
I don't think it would be up to WOS where they ended up. Besides... they would all just be following Dan Ray to BC.
-
I think the Eagles will have their hands full with all of the above. If Silsbee is stacked as deep as Tiger fans think, I think they'll wear down the Eagles. I'm not sold on WOS or Gilmer this year, but think both will be real contests for Newton.
