  1. Close... All bills that generate revenue (tax bills) must originate in the House. That's one reason why a lot of people were aggravated about the HCA (Obamacare) coming out of the Senate first with it's inherent tax increases. That's why there was so much weeping/wailing about calling them "penalties" instead of "taxes." And no, it's not really any more powerful than the Senate Majority Leader who also controls what is heard over there, too. The Speaker of the House is third in the succession only because the house is supposed to more accurately reflect the population than the senate. The Senate Majority Leader comes in at fourth in the chain. You're a smart dude. I don't know about you, but I didn't pick up a lot in high school government class. I got a lot more from my poli sci classes in college. You ought to go and refresh what you know.... I can virtually guarantee that you'll get a professor that you'll like (a lib, lol). I'll bet you'd enjoy it. If I had time, I think I would take it over again as well.
  2. Both sides are bonkers... It's no wonder that the public can't stand congress. The young rep from New York (AOC) is the absolute lightning rod for criticism by the Right these days. So much of it is over the top and unnecessary. On the other hand, the D's in the house appointed her to the House Oversight Committee. Think about that for a minute... you take a brand new rep with some really big ideas about changing the way we're governed and stick her on the committee that's charged with policing her peers from both sides of the aisle. That's the kind of thing that's done specifically to irritate and agitate the opposition. She's never been elected to any position that I'm aware of, and now she's on the panel that looks into reported violations of rules which she is obviously not even aware of. She was a waitress a year ago, for crying out loud. It's all just gamesmanship.
  3. I also failed to mention that the Speaker of the House is only the leader of the House... she's got no control in the Senate. She's only leading 1/2 of one branch of the US government. The Senate and House make up the Legislative branch, the Executive branch is the president and the departments that report to him, of course, and the third branch is the Judicial one.. the Federal Court System. So, yeah... She's definitely not a co-equal.
  4. I agree... Whether or not Joe Wilson was right in his assessment, he should have kept it to himself. That's not the time or place.
  5. Not exactly.... he is the nationally elected leader of the executive branch. She is just one of 435 Representative from the House that was selected by her fellow reps to lead the house. In short, she was elected by however people voted for her ONLY in her district, plus the reps in congress that voted for her. She's technically the third person in the chain of succession behind the VP. But definitely not equal in stature to the sitting president.
  6. I remember when that one kid from WOS in 15 or so didn’t get to sign his letter or intent with the rest of the WOS football team after leaving the team during the season. Johnny something if I remember right. Correct me if I’m wrong. I was curious if something similar happened in Newton this year. I’m too lazy to go follow up with the TCU recruiting boards.
  7. Yeah... I was curious about him as well. I understand that he was a verbal commit, but to my knowledge hasn’t signed yet. I’d like to hear from somebody that actually knows.
  8. Update. Channel 12 just reported that charges are still pending against two of the accused. The other one plead guilty. Charges were dropped against DT due to lack of evidence. Sounds good to me.
  9. Yeah... you’re totally incorrect about that. The incident was in the spring of 2017... the tweet thing was from the 2016 game between BC and WOS. The kid that got hurt was from OF. And FYI, most of the kids from WOS (including the young man who was actually mocked in that tweet) were in the BC stands for our game against Silsbee a few weeks later... that whole situation was long since over and unrelated to the fight at the beach. And I guess I could also say that some of the young men from WOS (I think there were two still in school that spring) also might have gotten stuck paying the price for the group THEY were with.
  10. You have to have kids that buy into the program. You can't just show up for two-a-days and beat anybody. Sorry. It also stinks that our defense never has to defend passing attacks in practice... it puts us at a disadvantage on Friday nights when we actually have to look up.
  11. No offense, but we never have anybody that can throw the ball. We just don't develop qbs. Any scheme that relies on moving the ball through the air will NOT work without a bona fide qb. I think we'd do a lot better with more of a passing attack (2-3 passes per game isn't going to do it) to compliment our rushing attack, but we've run the spread and it was a disaster. Nothing has changed. Everybody wants to pitch for the Cardinals, but nobody wants to be the qb. That's just how it goes down there.
  12. I thought everybody that was charged (other than DT) were already finished playing? Can you elaborate? Does anybody know about the charges against those kids, because the way I read the article, DT's pop just mentioned his kid, not the other three. Just because DT's charges got dropped doesn't indicate that all three of the others are blameless... they might have deserved the "attention" that they're getting. I'm fairly certain SOMEBODY stomped that kid out. Nobody can prove that slurs were used, but you can 100% prove that a felony assault occurred. And contrary to popular belief in 2019, you can't just crush somebody's skull because they use (allegedly) a word you don't like.... despite the fact that its blasted through your headphones about 25 times a minute.
  13. FWIW, I had a kid there at the beach that day that knows DT.... He said that he didn't see DT involved in the violence. He also said that the kid that got smoked had nothing to do with the disagreement... didn't hear any slurs, either. Said there were plenty of drinks thrown, though. My guess is that (like always) the truth lies somewhere in the middle. And sometimes you just have to trust the system to do its work. I wonder what happened to the charges against the other three accused?
  14. Robbed? Hardly. If the Saints needed a first down, they should have actually gotten one between the whistles. It's kinda feminine to cry over a missed pass interference call (on a ball THAT WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN CAUGHT ANYWAYS) play as proof that the league screwed the better team out of advancing. If you can't move the ball and needed a flag to advance, then.... you don't deserve to win. Secondly, you're exactly right... Nobody except Saints fans feel like the wrong team advanced.
  15. Lol. It wasn't the league that kept scoring on the Saints D. And that ball wasn't catchable anyways. If you couldn't put the RAMS away in your own home, you don't deserve to go to ATL. Jeez... what a buncha babies.
  16. We should get Lance Edwards to.... never mind. This is where I’d normally make a “hard worker” joke, or maybe some other vague innuendo about the oldest profession, but I’m too mature for that now.
  17. No, I stated in a previous post that self defense is the only reason to kill. But you really can’t claim self defense when you’re injecting poison into the arm of a person that’s being restrained. Kinda like sticking a needle into a helpless fetus, huh? Stop thinking about what the condemned man did to deserve it. That’s on him. The man flipping the switch, or injecting the poison, or slapping that horse on the butt will have to answer for his actions, too. And he’s not going to have a biblical principal to stand on. Like I said... my beliefs have evolved. I just dont think I’d want to stand in front of my Maker and have to explain to Him why me killing this guy is any different than this guy killing somebody else.
  18. I didn’t ask the difference between the unborn and the murderer. I asked for the difference between the abortionist and the executions. Because honestly, they’re both just taking a life. One life is innocent and the other is the opposite... but a life is a life.
  19. I mean... that sounds cool and all, but that would make you no better than the person you’re executing. I believe that you have the right to defend yourself up to an including killing somebody if that’s what it takes to save yourself. I just don’t think that ethically you (as a person) can carry out a death sentence and be any different than the convict.
  20. How is the executioner any different than an abortionist? Is it because “the state” has determined that the convicted person deserves it? Its a stretch in my opinion. Besides that, it’s cheaper to house an inmate until their natural death than to execute them.
  21. My views have changed over time. I had the chance to visit with a captain that had actually supervised executions here in Texas. His accounts were spectacular, and also he had gone through an evolution to believing that capital punishment was wrong. It had an impact on me. I concede that I might feel differently if I was close to a victim, though. I’m not saying that people don’t deserve to be put down... just that actually putting them down is wrong. Kinda like smacking a woman... she might completely deserve it, but you just don’t.
  22. So why do people get enhanced penalties when convicted for killing pregnant women? [Hidden Content] Basically, if a mom in NY decides to go get an abortion instead of heading to the hospital for delivery during her 38th week of pregnancy, it's okay because it's "her choice." If I get drunk and run over mom in her 16th week of pregnancy, I'm in extra big trouble because of the death of that unborn child. Kinda paradoxical, is it not? Like I said earlier, Roe vs. Wade is the law of the land as far as I'm concerned, and any time spent discussing it is simply time wasted. I'm glad that we at least agree that tax-payer funded abortions shouldn't occur.
