  1. All jokes aside, I’m personally opposed to abortion, but never felt like the government should force my beliefs onto others... I guess you could say that I’m very conservative on the social issues, but probably more libertarian on my views of how influential I believe the federal government should be in our lives. Roe vs Wade has been the standard since before I was born, so I think the repubs waste a lot of time discussing the issue just to earn the pro-life vote. What changed my mind on the issue was when the dems moved so far as to demand abortion on demand, regardless of a woman’s right to pay.... effectively saying that people like me who are morally opposed to abortions should be financially responsible for providing them. That’s what drives me nuts about the left... if they support something, any different opinion is labeled hateful, bigoted and an intrusion into their personal life. My views on abortion are hateful and show my willingness to force my views onto women... however, forcing me to break out my wallet and pay for your abortion isn’t forcing their views onto me, lol. If you believe marriage should be between and man and woman (I personally don’t care), you are a homophobe and forcing your views on the LGBTQ community. But, if you bake cakes for a living and believe your bible re:homisexuality, you should be compelled to bake for a same-sex wedding, regardless of your views, and somehow that’s considered to NOT be against your own civil rights. The left wants to decry the federal government as intrusive and overreaching, while simultaneously using it to intrude and overreach into areas that the left wants to see changed. The hypocrisy is maddening.
  2. “I support a woman’s right to choose up to the 27th Trimester.”
  3. That man nurse that fathered a baby with his comatose patient is only about 6 months ahead of the Democratic agenda.
  4. It's not as easy as saying "this school produces talent and that school doesn't" based purely on records. Development has a lot to do with the level of success a school enjoys. Newton, Jasper, Kirbyville, and Burkeville have very similar talent pools.... Heck, there are a lot of extended families that have kids in those different ISDs. You can easily rank them by level(s) of sucess achieved, though. There's probably not a more naturally gifted program in the state than Memorial.... they just don't have the hardware to prove it. There's a coaching deficit in my opinion, and a complete lack of development over there. You'll not convince me that the kids in WOS are genetically superior to the ones in PA. It isn't the facilities in WOS that makes them compete at the highest levels every year, either. It comes down to having the coaching, as well as a program that will develop young ballplayers. Naturally talented athletes are definitely a necessary ingredient if you want to regularly compete for SCs... I'm not pretending that you could take any old school, drop in a championship coach, and start collecting rings. You're going to need some top-notch athletes, but you're also gonna need a lot of middle-of-the-road athletes performing at their peak, too.... in the offseason, track season, powerlifting, 7-on-7, etc.... On the other hand, if you tried to implement WOS's program in a place like BC, they'd fire the coach before two-a-days were over. IMO: IF you took a top level guy and brought him in to a place like BC Got community support for the coach/program like they do in other places (Newton, WOS) Had a 3-4 years to develop skilled and non-skilled players Got a lucky move-in or two Then yes.... I think you could develop a consistent team that would play in December a lot of years. But I don't think it happens without any of the above listed components.
  5. That's the most reasonable post by a Newton fan that I've seen in a while. Or maybe ever. Good luck.... lotsa changes in store for the Eagles.
  6. Not trying to sound mean, but there's a reason that nobody tries to coach football and basketball. At the end of the day, programs (and schools) are judged on wins/losses. In this era, kids are ready to "take their talents" elsewhere if they believe that their home school is going to lose. Winning will win out over "cares about the kids" every day of the week... not just among the people who make personnel decisions, but also among student athletes. I'd like to see Kountze pick up a strong HC, but they'll honestly have to find an unknown up-and-comer and hope to hang onto him for a few years. Decent football coaches aren't interested in schools where the basketball coach is holding down the AD title, unfortunately. I'd sure like to see Kountze have some success, though.
  7. It would be really hard to keep a talented kid enrolled in Kountze and staring at a losing season/career when he/she can cross the creek and play at Silsbee and have decent chance of making the post-season. There is talent there, it just hasn't been developed or it left town. I hope they can make a good hire.
  8. I'm expecting a substantial drop-off in offense on the Rez next year. That's a kid that can't be easily replaced.
  9. Well, we’ll all know that Patrick Swayze visited the Starlite Inn outside Kountzewhen he was preparing to do “Roadhouse.”
  10. Don’t forget malicious speculation. There’s some of that, too.
  11. I was about to ask if they made two laps around the square like they do for the Christmas Parade. They did. Am I the only wondering why the covered wagon and city backhoe weren't part of that procession? Yeah... that was the excuse for coming up short a few years ago. "Long ride on the yellow dogs on the day of the game." Good Luck, Eagles....
  12. No specifics needed... Has Brown been back in the lineup? Why do people keep talking as if he may or may not take the field this week?
  13. It's amazing to me just how little love WB is getting from the area. You've got a 6A school playing in the state championship game but there is little to no publicity. Anybody want to weigh in on why there just doesn't seem to be any local interest?
  14. I'm surprised WOS hasn't posted their HC position as open yet.
  15. They couldn’t even beat a bunch of unathletic white kids from BC that year.... despite having all of that talent. That’s why I keep thinking that the new scheme is making them a little bit tougher to beat. I know that Silsbee fans weren’t very excited about Coach Smith’s play calling because it seemed to be a departure from the flashy (but hit or miss) style... I think the fact that Silsbee isn’t getting multiple unsportsmanlike penalties is a result of them much better disciplined program... and also resulting in this playoff run.
  16. I’d be a lot more worried if it was a domestic violence accusation. If I was the defense counsel I’d be really trying to get the matter resolved before the draft.
  17. Here we go... Y'all couldn't even win District in '16.
  18. This is the first 5th round appearance by the Tigres that I can recall. Is this their deepest trip ever? This team is without a doubt not as heavily stacked as some of the previous Tigre squads. Honest question for the Silsbee honks. Do you guys think that this success can be attributed more heavily to the drop to 4AD11, or the new offensive scheme/discipline that Coach Smith has been implementing in Smoketown? I think the road to the F-I-F (Fif!) round is much easier in D2, but I also think that playing smart, disciplined football is paying off for the Tigers. What do you guys think?
