West Orange-Stark 24 Silsbee 21/FINAL
CardinalBacker replied to ST413's topic in High School Football
My annual “I Hate to See Either One Win” Bowl. WOS at home and coming off of a lopsided loss to Jasper.... I think Silsbee finds a way to drop a winnable one. Give me the Stangs by more than we’d all expect. -

We’re having a down year, too, or I think it might have happened, lol. I’m obviously just hassling the Mustang Faithful. -

Boy, those WOS fans are starting to get salty, I’m noticing. My man CT has “rings for every finger” but coaching is the problem? Maybe y’all need to get together and work on some better collective excuses. Sounds kinda like the Stangs are only giving about 72% this year. Nobody’s honking about “we’ll be fine come playoff time” or “just wait until we get Cooper back.” Can I get an “It’s just the Mustang Way” for old times sake? -

Yeah, the qb didn’t let the Jasper RB roll up 350+ yards. Chain Gang’s lacking a little bit, too. -
You make a good point....

Could anyone in Southeast Texas beat Newton?
CardinalBacker replied to EBrill12's topic in High School Football
I'd like to point out that you could add the entire student body of Newton High School to Bridge City High School and we'd still compete in (and rule) District 11-4A D1. Our standardized testing results would suffer, though. -
Yeah.... I'd feel a lot better if BC or LCM had been competitive in those games. 4/5 will get sorted out next week when LiCk'eM travels to BC. It's pretty much a "loser goes home" game regarding the playoff IMO.

Wooster was probably the most remarkable from BC. Matt Bryant could possibly get into the hall eventually. Shane Dronett is a BC honorable mention. Mark Moseley was the 1982 NFL MVP from Livingston that never made it into the Hall. -

That was before Newton got public housing and sucked all of the talent out of Burkeville. Carry on. -
What difference does that make if you just get molly-whopped every Friday?

So why doesn’t ET3 take all of the snaps on O and D? Heck, special teams, too. I mean, he used to run the Mustang Mile. -

That’s not bad. The problem comes when those bigger schools send in fresh subs and your guys can’t catch a breather. It makes a difference. The other problem is this. Guys who stand out as linemen in 3a would be kinda ho-hum in the larger classifications. I’m not talking about crappy, sorry 5A programs. I’m talking decent, playoff quality programs. I fully expected Newton to pick up an “L” or two through this stretch of non-district. They have not. Nobody is going to argue that WOS or Gilmer are having good years even if you don’t factor in the Newton games, though. You guys should roll through the 3A playoffs. Enjoy it and stay in your lane. -
Bye week this week, then LiCk’eM at BC for homecoming. If BC can pull of that win, I like our chances of locking up the four spot. I think we will beat Livingston since they’re making the drive down to play us. I expect 42 Livingston fans to make the drive to historic Larry Ward Stadium in scenic Bridge City. Should be a hostile environ for the Lyins. All kidding aside, I don’t think it will matter because if we can’t beat LCM, I don’t see us beating Huff, Splendora, or Lum. I’d rather miss the playoffs than get in as a four and get smashed out in the first round.

It’s not the D1s that are the weak link. There’s a reason that “D1s” at bigger schools don’t play both ways. They have OPTIONS, which is something that Newton doesn’t have. I don’t care who your offer is from, if you have to line up as a receiver against a good CB and then turn around and try to cover a fresh D1 receiver series after series, both of those guys are gonna make you look silly in the second half. Same goes for the lines. Playing both ways works fine against smaller schools. It even works well enough against mediocre big schools. When you run into a team that has a few decent players like Newton has, AND an abundance of kids that match up well with Newton beyond the skill positions, Newton would lose every time. It’s just the way things work in the real world. -

Newton would fade down the stretch against just about any decent 5A team. Going up against bigger lines, with more fresh bodies and kids that don’t play both ways would wear the Eagles down. It would make for a good half or so, though. I’ll concede that at this point there’s nobody in this area in 4A that could have beaten them... and possibly only a few in the state. -

Are you insinuating that this years Stangs are as good as the last years? Thats all anybody is saying. -

I wouldn’t bet against WOS when facing Silsbee or Liberty. Those are both winnable games. On the other hand, I don’t expect the typical 4 TD win vs either squad. In years past, I DID expect 4 TD victories. I think Silsbee gets up for this one. There’s blood in the water. Liberty.... I’m not so sure about. I still see WOS finishing no worse than second in District, and a decent chance of actually winning it. It’s just not going to be like the annual donkey stomp that the Stangs are used to. -

I think it’s time for the WOS faithful to admit that they just don’t have anywhere near the same type of squad they’ve had in years past. Vidor’s performance against Crosby last night makes WOS job against Crosby look a little less impressive. Silsbee thrashed us last week.... WOS-not so much last night. Still gonna make the playoffs, 50-50 IMO for another DC. Won’t be playing in December in my opinion. -
But y’all seem to so often......
-
Probably so. It’s just strange to think that our DC would likely finish second or third in either of the local 4A D2 districts. Especially when our probable DC dropped down from 5a this time around. This district is kinda trashy, IMO.
-
Well, after 5 weeks, the six teams that make up 11 4A D1 have combined for a total of nine wins. It’s crazy when you consider that four of those teams are very large for the classification.... three of them (Livingston, Lumberton, and Splendora) dropped down from 5a this year. With Lumberton whiffing against Silsbee last night, you have to wonder if anybody will step up and accept the DC.
