  1. Oh, I wasn’t offended. This next year will be the first year that I don’t have anybody participating in anything on Friday Night in four years. I didn’t have anybody on the team last year and it seems like I just get more and more out-of-touch with the program every day. I’m wondering if I’ll stay as dedicated as time moves on. There’s only so much entertainment value to be had cracking jokes about Newton and Silsbee.
  2. But we have that trophy. That’s something you and Silsbee can’t say. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there’s an army of young cardinals chomping at the bit to be the next stud RB in Cardinal Country. I think that we’ve got better days ahead.
  3. But I’m not sure y’all would have any of those if you played in our district. Just enjoy your JV state trophy. Make no mistake, though. I support you guys. It’s better to be a big ol’ fish in a teeny tiny pond than to have to swim out here with the big fishes.
  4. We’d have a bigger collection if we played 3A D2 Ball.
  5. “Coach Jones, and I have to ask you to be frank here today.... have you ever forced a child to perform squat thrusts or bear crawls? This district WILL NOT have our children subjected to those archaic forms of degradation and punishment.”
  6. What radius around SETX do I have to blindly support? Do I also have to blindly support local schools? If that’s the case, how can you support TB after he left the great state of Texas to go play at Alabama? You sound like one of those “everybody deserves a trophy” kinda guys. At the end of the day, I’m free to cheer for whoever I want, and perfectly within my rights to root against whoever I want.... regardless of my proximity to that person’s place of rearing. Get over yourself.
  7. Boo. Lol. I hope he does really well so I can tune in and root against him on Sundays. The only thing that MIGHT change my mind is if he became a Cowboy.... that’s just different.
  8. So help me understand why you would be permitted to pay “coffee and doughnut” money towards these frivolous projects and another man would have to spend thousands of his dollars on the same project. Like I said, scratch a check to the school any time you want.. they’ll gladly accept it and use it however you want. I’ll use PAT as an example of your way of thinking. They have the highest per-student spending of any district in Texas. You have a voting block of renters and low- alike homeowners dictating what the non-voting industrial and commercial interests should have to pay... “ for all the children.” PAISD could literally pass a bond to create a new amusement park. And we all have to wonder how that’s worked out for the kids over there? I mean, we know how the bond issue in Beaumont worked out for Walker Electric, but how about the kids who used to go to Central? I mean, a natatorium and world class football facility are nice, but now their having to go back to the taxpayers for more “coffee and doughnuts.” BC voted down a bond issue year before last that would have provided upgrades to the athletic facilities, band hall, and six new classrooms. The voters (typically owners of nicer homes) said “no” primarily because we can see the need for a new school in the not-too-distant future and we haven’t finished paying for the new schools yet. The crazy thing is that the school found a way to construct a new high school band hall regardless of a bond issue. I can tell you’re not a dummy. Work hard, make good decisions, and you can’t help but stack some money together over time. You’ll end up with property in a few school districts and your tune will change.
  9. That’s not a very good argument. First off, the “average homeowner” typically doesn’t pay the majority of these taxes. The average homeowner owns a moderate house that enjoys a homeowner’s exemption. The guy with the $350K+ house will be paying a lot more than “coffee and doughnut” money. Even harder hit is the guy with multiple properties or a business owner. So, while YOU might be giving up a dozen donuts a month, there are very real consequences for people who have made better financial decisions and consequently have a little more “skin in the game.” The schools always stand ready to accept any donations that you should voluntarily choose to make, my generous (with other peoples’ money) friend.
  10. Newton is small, but not bad for a school of their size.
  11. I think you can find areas lacking at most SETX fields. I agree with Buna being near the bottom. Ours is weak, but they’re making a few upgrades on a yearly basis. There’s a difference between dated and bad. Prletty much any school in the OC would be dated and probably overdue for a retrofit or new facility. Livingston was inadequate 40 years ago, and nothing had really changed. Nederland would be at the bottom of that old district if not for Livingston. I wonder why there isn’t a concerted effort by athletic booster clubs to secure outside funding specifically for those improvements, specifically turf fields. WOS could practically play with the lights off and just rely on the glow from the refineries. You’ll never convince me that Dupont, Lanxess, Firestone, Chevron, wouldn’t be willing to make a charitable neighborly contribution to get turf installed. You know, the old “for a dontion of ______ you can install a _________ sized sign in the end zone thanking you for providing our playing surface for a term of ten years.”
  12. Not really. When we do beat Newton they cry about the refs, facing a bigger school, having to ride a school bus instead of a charter, etc....
  13. The first one was a bad experience in Stump’s farewell season, and last year wasn’t a bad game even though we were banged up. I wish I had a better feel for what to expect from my Beloved Bridge City Tackle Football Cardinals in 2018.
  14. If Newton beats WOS and Gilmer convincingly next year, then Newton Fan can feel free to speculate about who “they would have beaten” after next season. Facts are facts... Newton didn’t face a team anywhere near as good as these two at any point last year. As Ric Flair said.... “to be The Man, you’ve got to at least play somebody who was worth a crap before you start bumping your gums.” Or something like that.
  15. Lumberton has a good coach that uses a system that probably works best with the athletes they have. If your a small school that runs a decent wing-T, there’s nothing as aggravating as a much bigger school that runs a decent wing-t. Fwiw I expected LCM to roll year in and year out once they dropped down.... except they haven’t. I suppose Lumberton could have the same results. Three of the six teams in this district are dropping down from 5A. Splendora, Livingston, and Lumberton are all joining LCM who recently dropped to 4A.
  16. Obama Lyins. All kidding aside, I’ve got no problem with a school named after President Obama. The guy’s a role model. The name of the school is lame, though. There’s no winners on that list.
  17. Give me a break... WOS had had YEARS of success just like Newton. The difference is that, despite playing in the SC game in 4 consecutive years, I don’t recall a single thread in WOS fans were posting about which other, larger champions they would have beaten. Newton keeps claiming that, as state champions and with all of their “talent,” they could compete and or beat numerous other opponents... when Newton’s actual 2017 history indicates nothing of the sort. Newton beat exactly nobody of note above their classification (3A D2), yet they are here proclaiming that they could beat anybody in 3A or 4A. Better yet, Newton Fan is happy to boast that they would have beaten WOS when by all accounts Newton was scared to even make that matchup when it was offered. To be honest, that sounds more like the description of your alligator-mouthed friend.
  18. Well of course not. We already know that Newton would have crushed Carthage and Manvel, too. WOS would have beaten Newton by at LEAST 3 TDs. Newton Fan is delusional.
  19. My brother-in-law coaches cross country pretty well, but I don’t think it’ll translate very well to the football program. That dude is weird. Like.... I tell my kids not to sit on Uncle _________’s lap weird.
  20. There’s more to life than Ws and Ls, my friend. Were you playing the year Dan Hooks got the officials to postpone the 2nd half of a game until the next day because the wet field was slowing the Mustangs down and they were losing to the PE kids? We’re just snakebit as far as the Mustangs go. Even when we miraculously end up in a close game with you guys we still find a way to lose. There’s no way y’all beat us 28 times in a row... but y’all have. It’s like losing to your big brother over and over and over and over. But one day we’ll get ours. It’s gonna be sweet. That’s why we keep showing up every year. Maybe not this year... but one year. Lol. Take it easy.
