  1. I talked with someone today who absolutely knows the ropes over there. PNG absolutely has plans in place for kids who are able to graduate in December.
  2. Meh.... he doesn’t have a problem being here 24-7 singing lil bro’s praises. A few years ago kids wouldn’t have dreamed of leaving their teammates behind for a new team for their senior year. It’s a changed world we live in. Everybody is ok with “taking their talents to Miami” or wherever. It’s no knock on the kid if he pulls out. It’s just the way things are these days.
  3. BC and OF kids play baseball together in BC Little League. BC plays against OF in STJFL. The schools are literally like five miles apart. Competition between the groups only stops when the kids get to junior high and only for football. The Bayou Bowl featured a trophy and banquet during the week of the game. I know the game had gotten rowdy in the last year or two it was played, but I think it’s time to crank it back up.
  4. We need to bust up Orangefield every fall.... they won’t have it. RIP Bayou Bowl.
  5. That doesn’t make sense.... We face WOS and Newton voluntarily but would duck Silsbee? I don’t understand schools not wanting to play the Tigers. A year or two ago, maybe, when it seemed like there was a lot of unnecessary stuff going on, but not so much in the last year or so. Any chance that it’s a problem between coaches from our area not getting along with the Silsbee HC?
  6. I’m surprised we’re not already set to continue playing Newton. I didn’t think there have been any problems.
  7. I’m fairly certain they’re already out flipping tires around the courthouse this morning.
  8. We’ve had Newton in Week 3 for a few years... is BC still on Newton’s dance card? edit... we’ve had Newton in week 4.
  9. That's true... with 12 state championships handed out per year (instead of the old 5), it does seem to get a little more diluted to be a "State Champion." Still a great accomplishment, but not nearly as tough as it used to be, I suppose.
  10. That’s what I was thinking. Highland Park was nowhere near the same league as Manvel, athletically speaking. It was impressive to watch the HP execution all game long against a superior team. A good coaching staff (not just the HC) is one of the keys to sustaining repetitive success. For the sake of argument, I’d say that a coach of Surratt’s caliber could take a school like Silsbee to the SC in short order IF the kids and their parents bought in. Not a knock on Coach Smith, and he might get them there soon.
  11. When it was over... ready for a big bounce back next year. That Highland Park Manvel game was sweet.
  12. Bah.... it’ll never happen. Honestly, I think it might jinx them if I predicted them to return again.
  13. I think it was the best I’ve ever watched, too.
  14. Amen... when coming up short in the SC is considered an “off year.” That’s setting the bar pretty frickin’ high.
  15. Offseason starts tomorrow. Wos has been on the hands down best period in SETX football, 2014-2017. What a series of accomplishments. Hats off to the Mustangs.
  16. But are you watching God-given gifts or carefully cultivated talents? I’m not sure I could tell the difference.
