That’s impressive... not a single 1st teamer from BC. I don’t think I can remember seeing a season where a school was totally passed over. On the other hand, I can’t think of anybody from BC that deserved it. Carry on.

No way he was sitting down while he was typing.... Go Stangs!

You want PAK, well here’s your chance lol

I can’t. I’ve got my anonymity to protect. Jack Dallas rightfully won the WRS in 2015. Sole returning starter on a team that ended up winning the state championship that year. Maybe if it was named the Willie Ray Smith Gaudiest Stats Award.... but it’s not. Besides, we get to hear how Silsbee kids got screwed every year when the awards get passed out. Right now Silsbee fan is estactic because they believe that Silsbee’s entire varsity squad made first team all district and the young guns are hands down the two finalist for the WRS. Anything less is just a political screw job. -
Should Roschon Transfer?
CardinalBacker replied to SETX Football Lover's topic in High School Football
The only problem is that we’re not a qb factory. We’d be throwing a lot more if we had the arms to do so. Kids in most schools dream about growing up and being the qb.... that isn’t the case in BC. Guys like Jack Dallas who are willing to pitch AND play QB aren’t that common anymore. But y’all are right. We’ll never get far with NO passing game. -
Should Roschon Transfer?

I’m sure he’ll still get to dump a pass to the tight end every now and then. It’s all in fun. I’ve been claiming that we were his second choice for a while now. Totally unsubstantiated, of course. -

BC was his second choice the first time around. -
It’s not just renters I’m talking about. People who pay little (or in some cases, no) property taxes vote for bond issues. Once those people outnumber the people with higher property tax obligations, you see the community passing bonds for anything and everything.
-
For the kids? Cities with small industrial tax bases and high home ownership vote down bond issues. See BC, Vidor, Nederland, and how hard PNG had to fight to get theirs passed. PAISD can pass one every time they open the polls. But go look at the extracurricular programs and tell me which communities do more “for the kids.” You can stroll into the admin offices and make a generous donation “for the kids” any time you want to.

C’mon, man... you’re smarter than that. If you take care of your business and make good decisions, one day you’ll understand what an actual tax burden feels like. Who expects to bear the greater cost for a new bond issue... the guy living in a subsidized apartment or the guy who owns a $300k house and owns his own business? Now which one has more say on the subject? They’ve each only got one vote. Property taxes don’t care if your business is profitable. You carry the same burden if you’re getting rich or going broke. I know people who sell their house as part of their retirement plan because they can’t afford to pay their taxes on a paid for home on a fixed income. The solution is always “just dig deeper... you know... for the good of the rest of us.” A bond issue every two years for schools, a hospital district, etc, etc, etc.... and you end up with an indoor pool and schools you can’t hold class in. You seem smart... one day you’ll earn enough money and own enough crap that and realize that “those other guys can always pay some more” crap is a lie. It’s not a racial issue... it’s a fiscal conservative versus tax and spend liberal issue.
-
How does that affect people living in government housing and subsidized housing? Lets end the myth that renters feel the same pain as people that pay their own property tax bill each year. Besides... the bulk of taxes are paid by businesses that have no voting rights. So in the case of PAT, voters keep voting for massive bond issues and the bulk of repayment via property taxes are paid by corporations and small business owners who have no say in the matter.

I don’t think it’s just one group. I think pretty much everybody has chose up sides.

You know... I’ve got a feeling. Tigers with the upset.

Ah, the second onside kick was ridiculous. The Great Silsbee Homecoming Massacree. They got one on us a week or two later. I was wondering if our old coaches had even bothered to watch the film of yall’s game.

Klein is right enough of the time to make his predictions interesting... not always accurate, but sometimes. And he does love bashing BISD. I don’t know what’s supposed to happen when the TEA takes over in an attempt to right the wrongs that occurred and then the people vote to re-seat people who were in power when the wrongs were occurring. Calling BISD admin dysfunctional is understating the situation.... and I honestly have no clue how it ever gets fixed.

D'oh!

My source is questionable at best... [Hidden Content] Don't judge me.

All jokes aside, I never understood the crazy support that was poured out for the old South Park HS, or the gusto with which administration displayed when demolishing it. I’m sure there were dynamics at play that outsiders like myself could only wonder about. I also fully expect that people who felt that they “lost” on South Park are poised to return the favor regarding whatever ends up happening to Central HS. I fully expect that we’re all about to take another lap on the old BISD political roller coaster regarding the fate of the these two schools. I’ve also read predictions that the TEA is displeased with the ongoing turmoil and steadily declining school rankings of some BISD campuses. That source believes that we’ll see a complete TEA takeover and a conservator appointed to replace the current Board of Managers within the next two months. I doubt it, but who knows what will happen if a conservator is appointed.

I'd normally be worried about a new bond passing since the construction process after the previous bond had so much controversy. The good news is that Beaumont, like Port Arthur, has enough voters with no "skin in the game" that the bond should pass without any real resistance. When the average voter pays little (or no) property taxes, they don't worry about increased property taxes and bond issue after bond issue will pass without a problem.

What do you mean, "done?" The work has been completed or saving the school is a lost cause?
-
I don’t really care how credible you find me. But you are kidding yourself if you think there’s a difference between a white guy blaming all of his problems on POCs and a black person blaming all of his woes on white people.
-
Yup.
-
It’s all a matter of different opinions, nothing more. I’ve learned a lot more from listening to the opinions of people that I don’t agree with than I ever learned from people who think the same way that I do. FWIW, I grew up in deep East Texas where you didn’t have to listen keenly for “dog whistle” or “systematic” racism. It was out front and open. I’m not pretending like there is no racism in The Golden Triangle. Racism is a problem, and it has been throughout all of the ages in every civilization.... it’s just a little more convincing when it has a southern accent. My guess is that you are also one of those people who feel as if, by definition, you can’t be racist towards white people. Why would a black person care about a community being labeled as racist when “by definition” you can’t be calling the black citizens racist... only the white ones. When EVERYBODY realizes that there’s no difference between the neo-nazis and supremacists blaming POCs and Jews for all of the problems facing white America and the POCs blaming all of their problems on white privilege and “institutional racism” we’ll all be a lot better off. “Systemic racism” is an excuse bandied about by POCs and apologists to excuse the generational failures by the black community and its leaders. Does systemic racism exist? I agree completely. But I also believe that racism and privilege can only be blamed for a small, small percentage of conditions that face the black community today.... and time wasted worrying about privilege can best be compared to a young white athlete complaining about a black athlete winning the genetic lottery.... you’re never going to win anything in the big game if life if you already believe that you’re whipped. I appreciate you, and what I can learn from you. I hope you realize that my opinions come not from a belief in the superiority of my race, but rather from a deeply- held standard of personal accountability that I demand from myself, and the absence of which I abhor in others.
-
And you share the opinion of the author... the only thing is that I can appreciate your opinion, and you don’t have the capacity to realize that you might be wrong. The fact that so many people don’t agree with the perspective of the writer should be indication to you that there is one way to view the issue. It’s not just “if you don’t see things my way, then you’re a racist.” I think the key word you’ve left out is “deflecting.” Because that’s what gets said about anyone who doesn’t espouse slavery, racism and “privilege” as the primary cause of ALL of the woes that affect the black community in 2017. Why are things so bad in Orange, PA, and soon to be Beaumont AFTER all of those no-good racists moved away?
-
You’ve got your opinions, but it doesn’t mean your perspective is right. It’s funny how one group needs to “look within itself” to reach an enlightened perspective and realize that racism and discrimination are behind every tree and shrub... while the group with the “enlightened” viewpoint refuses to “look within itself” and realize that a vast majority of the problems they are facing are self-inflicted.

So... the community renamed a street to honor MLK and then some individual erected a monument to confederate veterans, proving the community is racist? Its like anything else. Racism sells. Nobody wants to read a story about a man’s good deeds. A story with elements about racism gets blood pumping of both sides. Do you remember the hoopla when that kid shot up the black church in SC? A solid month of media hysteria that resulted in confederate flag bans and the fact that I can’t even watch the Dukes of Hazzard reruns anymore. Did it seem like the church shooting a couple of weeks ago where 3x as many people were killed got the same amount of attention? Hardly. But there wasn’t a racist angle for the media to exploit. I think that ET3 is a heckuva football player,a role model for his humanitarian works, and a fantastic human being. He deserves a story about himself that isn’t stretched over a framework of tales about regional racism. But then again, nobody would read that story even if ESPN published it.
