Dist. 9 #4 Center vs Dist. 10 #1 Silsbee
CardinalBacker replied to Crawford's topic in High School Football
This isn’t a typical #1 vs #4 matchup. I think Silsbee has what it takes to win by 2 TDs, though. -
Huffman Hargrave 21 Bridge City 7/FINAL
CardinalBacker replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
21-7 Huffman is the final. Falcons move on to the playoffs. What a disappointment of a season. We just lost too many key pieces throughout the season to beat many people. I’m hoping for a productive offseason and a return to form next year. Lots of young players that have shown the ability to step up on Friday Nights. Just need a lot of time in the weight room and a lot of good eating. -
Huffman Hargrave 21 Bridge City 7/FINAL

7-7 at the half. BC to receive following a magnificent halftime performance by the Bridge City High School Marching Band. -
I'd expect the game to be closer than most expect, unless Cleveland really has lost a few key pieces to injury. They played us tough in the opening week of District play back before we lost so many kids. Either way I think Silsbee wins... it's just a matter of how much.

Nice work, waiting until the season is over to speak up. That’s my move. Well done. -
.....and everybody gets a trophy!

You kinda have to wonder who the big winner will really be since they'll likely walk into a saw with Carthage next week.
-
At home, Senior Night, effectively a playoff game since the winner gets in. I think Dubois will have the kids coached up and ready to play. Cards win.

Orangefield 13 Hardin-Jefferson 12/FINAL

It’s true with all coaches... but he’s a world-class coach based on his credentials. Yet people would still rather someone else in that job. -

Unfortunately, parents have a lot of say in a coach’s employment. It was also parents that filed the lawsuit against the coaches in HF a few weeks ago. It’s kinda hard to just ignore a lawsuit. (and I know in my heart it’s bogus... there’s one of the accused that coached here and never made the kids do anything they didn’t want to do) FWIW, there’s a large part of the community in WOS that wants to see Coach T gone.... I’d be willing to bet he’d already be coaching elsewhere but he just keeps punching tickets to the SC and it’s hard to can that coach. -

LCM VS Navasota CO District Championship
CardinalBacker replied to Tiger33's topic in High School Football
Don’t over-value that win over us... we aren’t playing very good at all. I think Silsbee isn’t as bad as that loss to LCM would indicate, but I don’t see the Tigers going much farther in the playoffs than they did last year. Not knocking the Tigers, but play has just been too inconsistent this year. I honestly feel like the team we beat last year with Tre Jones and Tyler was a better unit than the group that beat us last week. It only takes a mistake or two to end your season in the playoffs, especially considering how tough the bi-district round can be for our district. -
Well, if you followed the team a little more closely you’d understand that it’s more than just an injured player. I don’t know how many kids were out last night, but I know last week I could count six kids who would typically handle the ball that were unable to play. The seventh kid was visibly limping. That’s just the RBs, and says nothing about the other spots those kids play in, or kids like lb #2 that was out... Last week people were complaining about the punter... that’s not the punter! He’s out, too. We’ve been going for two because we’re about three places down the depth chart just trying to find somebody who can kick the ball off to the other team. Last week the four kids (back two lines) in the kick return team were virtual unknowns to the Cardinal faithful. I’d never even heard of Ply before the LCM game, and I’ve never even heard of the kid that broke the 98 yard TD against Silsbee before that play. It’s impressive to see such a long time fan like yourself create a screen name just to take a shot at the coach. We’ve had our share of bad coaches in the past, and Coach Dubois is the best thing that has happened to the Cardinal program in YEARS. Dubois could have his pick of openings almost anywhere in the state based on his track record and reputation as a man. However, there aren’t many coaches that could have rolled into Navasota with essentially their JV team and knocked off the Rattlers last night.

What Game will Everyone be Attending??

I’m missing my first Cardinal game in five years... I don’t have a kid on the team and it’s just too far to Navasota. -

Jeez... what’s happening over there? Is it Harvey? I just assumed that y’all were growing like we are. -

Dang... if this turns out to true BC was dealt the worst hand in history at 812. The next closest school would be Huffman with 1075 kids. We'd be lined up with Lumberton, Ozen, LCM, Huffman, Livingston, etc.... The next smallest competitor in our district would be 25% bigger than us. -

Former WO-S players indicted in Spring Break beach brawl
CardinalBacker replied to DannyShapiroBE's topic in The Locker Room
There’s not always video. Sometimes a witnesses’ statements are enough to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt. If you have 6 people say “I saw a tall dude in a green shirt kicking that one kid,” and then those six witnesses identify a guy in a green shirt in a picture taken the same day at the same location and they all agree “yeah, that’s him. That’s the dude that was doing the kicking.....” well, I’m convinced. But I have to admit that I’d be a lot more easily convinced if there was an actual video of the beating. I guess the bad news is that while the local community might view a racial slur (alleged) as a valid reason to beat someone half to death, your friends and families’ opinions don’t really matter. It all comes down to how a jury feels about it. My OPINION is that these young men will end up convicted (or pleading to) a lesser charge. Then everybody can get on with their lives. I hope that the right decision based on the available evidence be reached... whatever that decision turns out to be. -
Not everybody wants to play college football. The defenses hit harder, the competition is faster, and if you plan on actually getting a degree the demands placed on your time by participating in sports are a killer. A lot of kids just want to move on. Odds are that the best flute player in the marching band won't bother to try out for a college band. It's foolish to assume that every kid talented enough to play at the next level would be just dying to do so.

Former WO-S players indicted in Spring Break beach brawl
CardinalBacker replied to DannyShapiroBE's topic in The Locker Room
It'll be interesting to see if there is actually any evidence to prove that these four are guilty as charged. There's been so much talk and speculation. I'm glad for all involved that the proceedings are in Galveston County where I believe the case will be presented on the merits as opposed to closer to home where both sides enjoy a lot of sympathy. -

BC is growing... up from 745 even with Harvey. I keep telling y’all that if you don’t believe your city is the best, you should move. Looks like we’ll definitely be staying 4A D1. -
This.

That kid was just trying to get a foot on the ball without dying.
-
That wasn’t our punter, for starters. Neither of the two punts Barnes re turned back were supposed to reach him. The first one fell way short of Barnes, but nobody covered the ball or blocked him off of it. I was telling my Dad what would happen if we punted to him and, BAM!!!
