Huffman Hargrave 27 Little Cypress-Mauriceville 20/FINAL
CardinalBacker replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
I don’t know if y’all realized how bad it was, but as of tonight we were missing the following RBs, in no particular order. Denton Lara Baker Alfie Preston Honeycutt Ply was in tonight, but limping. Thats a lot of missing ball handlers. -

Not knocking Silsbee or making excuses, but we were missing some key pieces tonight that put us in a position to beat LCM last week. That’s football, though. -

How bad was the hit? I wonder if Baker’s injury on a Winters hit influenced the call tonight? -

Good grief. This district is unbelievable. LCM 2-1 Silsbee 2-1 Navasota 2-1 BC 1-2 Cleveland 1-2 Huffman 1-2 It’s all up for grabs, it seems. -
Congrats, Tigers. You guys had a bumpy start but apparently got it together. Barnes is stupid fast. He makes it look easy. I left after halftime, but I liked what I did see. By far the most disciplined group I’ve ever seen from the Tigers. I wish we had been a little healthier and made the contest a little more interesting.

What the hell? -
I have no idea who just ran 98 yards for a Cardinal touchdown. I’ve never seen that kid before. 15-7 Cards.

I take back what I said about Hamm’s cinder block feet. 8-7 bc.

SNAPSHOT DAY NUMBERS/POST THEM HERE!

Somebody should tell Newton that the classifications haven't been outlined yet. -
Well I, for one, was bummed. He had a good year as a sophomore, switched to LB last year behind Tyler, then got back toting the ball this year.... then back to LB. That's enough to make a lot of kids give up. Here's hoping for a good game!

Enterprise Top 10 Rankings: Week 9

I agree. Or worse when they do actually meet and the loser is still ranked above teams that beat them. I think it was ‘15 where we finished behind Newton and Liberty, both of which we beat in non-district play. I’m a lot less irritated by rankings by classification as opposed to the all-inclusive lists like this one. -

Some kids are just tired of the wear and tear on their bodies. The talk about concussions is absolutely having an effect on kids playing longer. I think it mostly comes down to being able to fill out a few applications the summer after you graduate with no experience and having your pick of a number of jobs that pay better than anything available in rural areas. I think the idea of driving five miles down the road for a couple years to get a process operators degree and then making $100k plus per year is a definite possibility for kids in the Golden Triangle that just isn’t as realistic as a kid from Burkeville, no offense. If your Dad made a good living at the refinery and had a boat and the whole family drove nice cars, you just don’t feel the pressure to keep playing. The same life your dad had is available for you, too.... all you have to do is accept it. I know a kid that went to two different pro camps this summer after the draft... neither one worked out, but when the third team called and invited him out, he declined... just wants to wrap up his Masters and get on with life. I never had the chance to go to the NFL, and I’d like to think nothing would stop me from exhausting every opportunity to play... but I’ve never been in this kid’s shoes and all I can do is understand that it’s the way that HE feels. -

All kidding aside, a lot of kids from down here really don’t care to play beyond high school. I know... I had one that graduated last year that wouldn’t even bother to talk with college coaches who reached out to him. Anybody who played us last year knew about our o-line. Not a single one of those seniors is playing ball this fall. It wasn’t because none of them were good enough to play at the next level. In fact, there’s only one kid playing college ball this fall from last year’s team.... and his name didn’t get called over the PA a lot last year if you know what I mean. We just don’t prioritize playing college ball as highly as schools in communities where there aren’t any options for a young man graduating from high school. When high school is over, it’s time to move on with your life... and for all but a few, that means leaving football behind by choice. As far as you thinking that I “should be uplifting for any high school kid from our area that is going to play college ball,” I think that you kinda have your priorities out-of-whack. -

Ok... so it’s okay for you guys to say “we’ve got a kid that’s better than anybody at WB” but wrong of me to ask what happened to your last Wonderboy? It’s not hard to look like D1 Talent when you primarily face 3A Teams. The only problem is that yall’s 4 stars look a little tarnished when they line up against four stars that have played at a higher classification in high school. Not trying to stir the pot, but the kid that was a world beater at Legacy looked remarkably average against 4A D1 teams last year. Your boy might have nine picks, but I’ll be the first to say it’s a lot easier to get picks against a wing-T qb like ours than one from say, Lake Travis. I mean, Lumberton White STJFL Senior Tackle is looking pretty tough this year, and they might win a championship, but they probably shouldn’t be ranked. -

The local rankings are meant to be a joke, I believe... kinda like the “pound-for-pound” rankings you see in fighting. Newton believes that they should be ranked higher because they have a better record against weaker competition. And another “4 star” recruit we’ll probably never hear about agains once he gets to the next level and faces some actual competition. What ever happened to that qb from 14 or so that went to A&M? Newton has a successful program with a fantastic record playing smaller schools. “We just play who the UIL tells us.” There. I beat you to it, Newton Fan. In Newton’s “up” years they can beat a lot of bigger, mid-level schools like us or Orangefield. There have been years like 15 where we beat Newton and still finished behind them in the year end rankings... how do we finish behind Lil’ Ol’ Newton after we spanked y’all on the field? Newton is Newton. They get sympathy votes based on how well they do in their smaller classifications, but still suffer from an inferiority complex because they know that they can’t compete with the actual powerhouses in the area on the field. -
Honeycutt and Ply? Jeez. By my math that’s 5 RBs counting Denton... and Silsbee was bummed that A Thomas got moved to linebacker. Do they expect any of the five you listed to make it back by the end of the season?
-
Are the Cards expecting anybody back this week that’s been out? I was excited to see Zeke back last week. I thought he was out for the year.

Bah..... what a joke. Did somebody forget to tell them we won a game? We should probably be fourth... no worse than fifth. -
All BS aside, I think Silsbee once again will take the field with a much more talented and faster team. I think it all comes down to how effectively we can stay inside the chains (we can't keep ending up behind them with pre-snap penalties, etc...) and whether or not we can get any pressure on the Silsbee QB. If Silsbee's QB has enough time to let those speedy receivers get past what's left of our secondary, it's going to be a long night... if we can't keep matching the Tigers TD for TD. If it comes down to a coaching duel, I like our chances. Go Cards!
