Enterprise Top 10 Rankings: Week 9
CardinalBacker replied to DannyShapiroBE's topic in High School Football
The local rankings are meant to be a joke, I believe... kinda like the “pound-for-pound” rankings you see in fighting. Newton believes that they should be ranked higher because they have a better record against weaker competition. And another “4 star” recruit we’ll probably never hear about agains once he gets to the next level and faces some actual competition. What ever happened to that qb from 14 or so that went to A&M? Newton has a successful program with a fantastic record playing smaller schools. “We just play who the UIL tells us.” There. I beat you to it, Newton Fan. In Newton’s “up” years they can beat a lot of bigger, mid-level schools like us or Orangefield. There have been years like 15 where we beat Newton and still finished behind them in the year end rankings... how do we finish behind Lil’ Ol’ Newton after we spanked y’all on the field? Newton is Newton. They get sympathy votes based on how well they do in their smaller classifications, but still suffer from an inferiority complex because they know that they can’t compete with the actual powerhouses in the area on the field. -
Honeycutt and Ply? Jeez. By my math that’s 5 RBs counting Denton... and Silsbee was bummed that A Thomas got moved to linebacker. Do they expect any of the five you listed to make it back by the end of the season?

Are the Cards expecting anybody back this week that’s been out? I was excited to see Zeke back last week. I thought he was out for the year.

Enterprise Top 10 Rankings: Week 9

Bah..... what a joke. Did somebody forget to tell them we won a game? We should probably be fourth... no worse than fifth. -
All BS aside, I think Silsbee once again will take the field with a much more talented and faster team. I think it all comes down to how effectively we can stay inside the chains (we can't keep ending up behind them with pre-snap penalties, etc...) and whether or not we can get any pressure on the Silsbee QB. If Silsbee's QB has enough time to let those speedy receivers get past what's left of our secondary, it's going to be a long night... if we can't keep matching the Tigers TD for TD. If it comes down to a coaching duel, I like our chances. Go Cards!

Not a big fan of social media being so closely integrated with HS sports. Too much opportunity for bulletin board (and newcast) material.... as BC knows all too well Nothing good comes from players jawing with other teams online. I think that Silsbee’s troubles late in basketball season were created and magnified on social media. Ive heard of college programs having assistants whose role was to monitor players social media accounts... and players were required to “befriend” a team rep (no private accounts) or risk their position on the team. I get coaches embracing social media for communicating team info more easily. But it’s kinda like praising a coach for stopping by a house party to remind the kids about practice because “that’s where the kids are.” jeez, I’m getting old.

For real... Loser of this one might still make the playoffs, but will likely finish far down or last in our district and face somebody like Carthage in the 1st round.

[Hidden Content] I think Silsbee will come out ready to play after last year.

I guess we should have had Hamm running track if he's faster than Denton. I don't really care how fast you think Hamm is... I can't seem to recall him beating anybody on a long run to the endzone, ever. We're really missing the speed of kids like Denton, Baker, Draper, and Morris.... any of which would smoke Hamm. Kid has a rocket arm and cinder block feet. Good runner, doesn't shy away from contact. He's a gamer. I think he's awesome. I was just talking speed, and he doesn't have it. -

I get tired of the “Team A has more penalties than Team B, therefore the officiating was bad” line of thinking. There will always be bad calls and missed calls. -
The Cards will find a way to get it done. Go Cards!!!!

He’ll be one to watch, I believe. -
I think LiCkeM has clinched a spot with their 2-0 start.

All jokes aside, I’ve never seen Ply before Friday. Honeycutt didn’t seen to have as many touches (he was shoring up the secondary) compared to previous weeks. Hamm runs hard but just doesn’t have the breakaway speed that we’re used to seeing from multiple kids out of the backfield. The bears were definitely watching for the qb to sweep after seeing us gouge people with it a few times already this year. That one got us nowhere on friday. Ply looks like he has what it takes and gives an idea what to expect for the next couple of years. -

Same here.... the Bears came to play, no doubt. That D-line looked monstrous. -

I haven’t heard anybody say... it didn’t look bad from 24 rows up. They just iced him and Tims’ ankles. No air casts or anything of the sort. -

It didn’t help that we lost Baker and Lara... our two leading rbs going out had a lot to do with holding us to 14, also. With those two leaving the game and Denton being out, it’s amazing that we put 41 up. Dubois can coach ‘em up. -

I’m almost certain. They beat us in 2014 in overtime in Cleveland for their only win in this district since the February 2014 realignment.... before last night. -

It all depends on who all is suited out next week. The cupboard is bare, my man. -

It didn’t hurt for y’all that we lost Baker and Lara. That #28 took his first snaps that I’ve paid attention to tonight. The loss of Tims on defense was a big one tonight, too. I looked up one time and one of our offensive guards was in the secondary on defense. The last kid kicking off is a d-lineman in his first game back from breaking his arm. I’ve never seen him kick before. That’s why we were going for two. It wasn’t strategy. Good game Bears. How’s it feel to be alone atop the district? Nice work, and good for you LCM17... you’ve been like Moses in the wilderness. Enjoy the ride, Amigo. -
