The WAY TOO EARLY District Winner Pickem

I don't want to laugh too hard... it won't be long before the natives get restless. It just always seems to happen that way. -

Negative. If I'm not mistaken, there MIGHT be one or two returning on defense. All of the offensive front were seniors. -

The big RB is graduating. The kid who's replacing him should be just fine. Honestly, the line had a lot to do with Draper's rushing success up the middle. It's going to come down to how well a young line can step up. The skill positions on offense shouldn't miss a beat if the line gels. I expect to see a LOT of sophomores starting on the lines in 2017. -

Winters graduates this spring, doesn't he? I wasn't sure about that. I feel like the 4th team won't be much better than the 5th team, but I honestly don't know who will finish where. It's not impossible that Navasota drops further and misses altogether.... It's also not impossible that they make respectable finish in district, either. I just haven't really heard of any big changes coming from LCM, and other than us, I don't see anybody potentially falling off big-time. Your QB was showing a lot of promise last year once they opened up the offense for him.... is he going to be coming back? Our guys are going to be YOUNG next year, but will be in their 3rd year under Dubois' system. We really need to develop a corp of linebackers capable of shutting down offenses. If we can do that, we should be okay. With Hunter Denton, Max Baker, and Andy Lara toting the ball, and the expected return of young Dubois at QB, I think we're ok as far as talent running the ball goes. Skinner will be fine at QB instead of Dubois if that's what happens. Practically all of the O-line AND D-line were seniors this year. The secondary is mostly intact. Line play will be the key in whether or not we're contending for a DC or fighting for a playoff spot. -

1. Bridge City 2. Silsbee 3. Navasota 4. Huffman 5. LiCk 'eM 6. Cleveland Obvious homer pick, but BC will really need some kids to step up and replace a good senior class if they hope to compete for a DC in 2017. Silsbee will be good, and probably compete for the DC despite losing Tyler and Jones. I expect Huffman to return to the postseason, and expect Navasota to improve slightly over last year. I think Cleveland and LiCk 'eM both miss the postseason. The top four are picked honestly in no particular order. You could see any of the teams land anywhere in the top four. It's crazy the difference a year can make. Last year you could look at this district and figure it to be one of the toughest to advance to the playoffs in... 5 of the 6 teams would likely move on in most other districts. This year doesn't seem like the district will be as tough across the board. -
Silsbee vs Argyle 4A State Semi Final

Exactly the same.... except Silsbee hasn't won one yet. Or ever. Pump the brakes, Tiger fans.... y'all were picking yourselves to win state in football this year, too. -

There's nothing like being able to sit in the stands in BC and see the lights at WOS or Orangefield (who are no longer in our district) and heading off to Navasota for a district matchup. -
Sounds like somebunny is about to get a "for sale" sign on the front lawn.

Foreman a finalist for a head coaching job
CardinalBacker replied to dBerrySports's topic in High School Football
If you'll remember, Coach Dubois stated that BC (his hometown) was the only job for which he'd leave HJ... now, I don't believe that to be true, but I am confident that he wasn't (and isn't) emailing his resume to every school in the state every spring. His interest in the position was a closely held secret up until his hiring was announced, also. There aren't annual press releases announcing "BC's Dubois finalist for Sabine Pass Head Coach" and "BC's Dubois to be announced as new HC/AD at Hemphill High School" only to have him show up year after year to coach my beloved Bridge City Tackle Football Cardinals. I'm serious. Drop by your HR department and let them know you're going to need the day off Tuesday for an interview. Better yet, do it a few times and see how well it works out for you. -

CardinalBacker replied to dBerrySports's topic in High School Football
The point isn't being upset about TF applying for a better job.... he applied up and down, every spring. Let my my boss get wind of me interviewing all over the place and suddenly I'm kicking a can around in front of the unemployment office. How can a coach expect kids to buy in when he's already made it clear that he'd rather be ANYWHERE but where he is? -

I'm just saying... every year this guy would interview anywhere. Even 3A Woodville. Admin shouldn't support guys who have one foot out the door every spring. -

Man.... what can be said positively about a coach who spends all spring every year trying to find a new job. ANY job. Just another job. BISD shouldn't renew this guy. -
Was Punishment to Hard on Devin Mccain

Stop blaming people for posting the clip. Everybody including the attacker is aware that every second of the action is recorded. If you like to see yourself in hudl or other highlight reels, you shouldn't complain when somebody posts something negative, either. -

Nobody is upset about the the fight that happened... other than maybe the fact that it happens an awful lot when Silsbee faces anybody in any sport, pretty much. A fight is a fight. Suspensions were handed down. It is what it is. Running up the court to punch an unsuspecting player from behind, 50 feet from the actual fight is a completely different story. Since this kid's parents, team, and coaches have apparently not gotten that important lesson through to this young man, the duty to teach him this lesson has now fallen to school administration. If they are still unable to convince this young man of the error of his ways, I suspect that the next person that tries to teach young Mr. McCain this valuable lesson will be wearing a black robe. Will Silsbee rally to support this young man the next time he attacks someone? I guess it depends on whether or not he's still playing for the Tigers. -

Right. Because that's what you do when your team screws up. Throw a party? Nobody from BC was protesting or publicly defending our kids' action. And I might add that the act of posting an offensive meme is a far cry from the brutal assault we all watched #3 commit on his unsuspecting victim. The fact that the team is tweeting #nodevonnotigers and the community is rallying to support the team and their thuggish behaviors two days after a game was ended early after a brawl involving the whole team indicates to me that the problem at Silsbee at is not just "a kid making a bad decision," but rather another example of this particular community condoning terrible, and sometimes criminal behavior from its student ath-o-letes.
