This week's matchup between the Bridge City Cardinals and the LCM Battlin' Bears has some serious playoff implications. The loser of this game will find themselves with a serious climb to actually make the playoffs. The Cardinals have been making fewer mistakes (unforced) on offense, and all of the defense should be back on the field Friday. Of course I'm going to pick BC by a touchdown or two. What do y'all think?

But most H.S. backs don't have a intramural team like y'all played last week on their schedule. Tyler is good.... I think he's the best in the area. But last week's numbers were a joke. It's like trying to add in yardage from your scrimmages, too.

We were missing both starting corners and a starting safety when we played Newton. Those guys are responsible for fielding kicks and punts as well. Everybody should be back this week, or so I understand.

I haven't watched LCM yet this year. Silsbee's D looked good against WOS... If they play that kind of defense AND LCM can't slow down Silsbee's run game, it'll be a long night for the Bears. It should be a good game.

Cleveland gave us fits last year. If you're them, and you have to beat two teams to get into the playoffs... I'm guessing we're on their short list of potential wins. Everybody should be healthy and if we're focused, we should win this Friday... I'm not going to pretend I'm not a little nervous.

Probably right... I think we're destined to stay right where we are unless they do some major restructuring of the current classifications. We'll keep growing just enough to stay ahead of any increases in the lower limit. But look at Splendora... they were the biggest school in our district and didn't win a single district game in two seasons.... moved up to 5A and are now having some success. You just can't tell. How is y'all's band looking under new direction? I'm not as excited about our show as I have been the last few years.

There's no good answer. We're the smallest school in our district since Jasper dropped down. You could add the entire Newton student body to ours and we still wouldn't be as big as our cross-town district rival, LCM. You just have to deal with it and play who's in front of you.

Oh, I'm aware. I've got one playing football and one in the band. You still can't have a 150 person hoe-down behind the bench during third quarter. If you don't like "Nerd Herd," you don't want to hear what they call the Strutters.

I'm sorry... just trying to stay in shape. it's hard to go WEEKS without being able to talk up a game. Besides, it was a compliment. I picked y'all to win!

Nah... We're just enjoying our second bye week. Are there any good matchups close to home this Friday?

So we'll call this matchup "No Senior Class vs. No Class." I'll take "No Class" by about 35.

That's been a sore subject in BC this fall.... For years the band stayed down on the track and played and danced all through the third quarter. Last year everybody agreed that they could keep performing on the track (right behind the bench) during the 3rd quarter, as long as they shut it down while we were on offense. Apparently the band never appointed a lookout, because the crowd was yelling at the band to shut up in HF for playing while the offense was working during our first game this year. After that the Nerd Herd got banished back into the stands where they belong. It seems like they've almost stopped playing other than the fight song since then.

It was a long week. I just needed some peace and quiet.

Dr Bain was in the stands and he looked like he knows what's coming.

Well, it got kinda noisy over that way, and all I saw was a lady wearing a shirt that said "Jones's Mom" on the back yelling back up the stands at somebody. But I honestly wasn't very close and there was obviously more going on than just that. The police came, people left, and that was about it from my perspective. Big props to the Silsbee D. They had a heck of a first half. I hated WOS's uniforms. You can't read the numbers from the stands. Bye weeks suck.

Jack finally gets to be a Cardinal. Congrats!

I'm starting to wonder... They got beat 51-6 by Stafford last night. Navasota has one last non-district game to get it together. Our next game will be a district game against Cleveland. We don't have any more time to gel... The next game counts.

Post game thoughts. I was only able to watch the first half, so that's all I can comment on. Newton came out and executed a game plan so seamlessly that you'd never know they were missing 4 starters, allegedly. I don't want to diminish what the Newton kids were doing tonight. They played well enough to beat our you-know-whats up and down the field. It was absolutely the most uninspired and undisciplined performance I've seen from the Cards in years. Stupid penalties and carelessness with the football are killing us.
