  1. WOS is bringing back 16 or so starters as defending state champions. Anybody that doesn't favor them in this matchup is delirious. They SHOULD win this game. nobody is kidding themselves about how special the Mustangs are this year. Bruce Lee once said that he wasn't scared of a man that knew 10,000 different kicks.... He was scared of a man that knew one kick, but had practiced it 10,000 times. We're going to run on WOS. Believe that. BC wins this one in a dogfight.
  2. The rumor about BC picking up a game with a Lousiana team on one of our bye weeks was making the rounds again yesterday. Anything concrete from anybody in the know?
  3. Are y'all going to blame the refs again this year if you lose?
  4. We're playing BYE twice this year. Frickin' Brock.

  7. I heard he transferred to Silsbee.
  8. I don't think anything will ever top the time a few years ago when the kid from Stafford drew a penalty against us and then started giving his teammates the business. Their coaches were calling him to the sidelines... He got about halfway there and turned around and ran back to midfield to fight kids from his own team. They ended up cuffing that kid and walking him down the track, pads and all and stuffing him in a police car. Wild stuff.
  9. I haven't heard anything else about it. It's a month or less away now, so I'll be surprised if the game actually happens.
  10. We're planning on it... Don't let last nights 56-15 win over HF fool you, though. We've still got a lot of things to fix. Hopefully we bounce through these next three non-district games, recover through the consecutive bye weeks and start district play as a legit contender for the DC. I'm sure that Silsbee, Navasota, and Huffman will get back on track shortly... We just have to make sure that we improve, too. Go Cards!
  11. Paper tiger is a literal English translation of the Chinese phrase zhilaohu(紙老虎). The term refers to something that seems threatening but is ineffectual and unable to withstand challenge.
  12. Wow... My two least favorite teams. It's hard to pick who I want to lose next week, but I expect Silsbee to. I think the Eagles are just playing better FB at this stage of the game, and that will be enough to beat the (paper) Tigers. The Tigers should gel before District play starts... It just doesn't seem like that is happening yet. It is important to point out how Silsbee Fan has changed his tune from "great things this year... We're going to be playing in December" to "we only ran three plays" and "we should be throwing the ball more to what's left of the Best Receiving Corp in Southeast Texas."
  13. Good win for the Cards. Cards drew first blood by returning the opening kickoff for a TD, but HF returned the favor. Their RB 24 was wrapped up and taken down, but somehow managed to roll off of our defender and break free for a long TD. I'd also like to say that both teams seemed to play a clean game between the whistles. The Longhorns just seemed to be undersized and outmatched in this particular game, but they never gave up and had some good moments, particularly the play of their 24 as well as their mid-range passing attack. For us... The cards didn't play very disciplined football last night. It's the first game of the season, but we still had too many procedural penalties last night for a group that's this senior-heavy. It won't be as easy to make up those five-yard setbacks as the competition gets tougher. The RBs for BC have speed across the board. The score was 49-15 when the skilled positions on offense were benched before the end of the first half. Classy move by Coach Dubois, but I hope we have time to settle into a mid-season groove before that two week break in late September. Great start to what I expect to be a good season for the Cards. I felt like we needed a win like this over HF if we expect to contend for a playoff spot.
  14. BC takes a 7-0 lead with 11:45 remaining the first.
  15. I thought I'd been banned again.
  16. For Sale... Nice 3/2/2 in Port Neches. Motivated seller.
  17. Its hard to make a prediction since we don't know how effective the new coaching staff in HF will be. We need to make a statement. And that's not good news for the Horns.
  18. I've got to get some new material.
  19. I promise, I'm not lying. I was on the square in downtown Newton one afternoon about five years ago when the fire whistle went off. Normally you'd expect to see the VFD guys come screaming through town their personal vehicles towards the fire station so they can jump in the firetruck and go save somebody's slab and possibly their chimney. There's this big commotion down the street, and this guy is coming down the street in a wagon with car tires and bucket seats being pulled by two horses, and he is giving those horses HELL on the way to the fire station. I was just shaking my head... i couldn't believe what my eyes had just seen. Only in Newton.
  20. That is a good DQ...
  21. Bad. But not as bad as living in a town in the middle of nowhere right after the only restaurant in town burns down.
  22. Here we go.... I've told you over and over. Somebody is going to win the NCAA Division II Championship and they'll claim to be "national champs." It's okay, but we all know about Division I. Newton's JV, errrrr 2A title runs are great, but it's just so hard for Eagle fan to realize that they can't compete with the big boys. Come playoff time, the rest of SETX will start playing tough competition from schools of their same size, and Newton will dust off a handful of small schools I've never heard of in the loser's bracket... Then crow about it. Newton fan is like that guy that believes the dirt track car out behind his barn makes him on the same level as Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and the rest of Nascar. How does it feel to know that you can't even seem to beat middle of the road bigger schools like Orangefield and Bridge City anymore?
  23. I give all of the credit to the Newton Housing Authority... They built their units and sucked all of the talent out of Burkeville. Just kidding! I'm just warming up for our matchup in a few weeks. It's dedication and a tradition of doing the hard work that leads to that kind of success. It's kids going through years of tough offseason programs. It's parents that accept the type of coaching necessary to win at the highest levels. It's families who have athletic genes that have stayed in the area for generations to raise their families. I can't stand Newton fans, but I admire what they do up there.
