TyAnthony Smith Part II

Truer words have not been spoken. After a vigorous recruiting cycle, all of the hype regarding stars and offers, then suddenly you’re just another receiver somewhere down in the depth chart? What better way to get a bump in attention than to hop in the portal (or decommit, if you’ve not yet made it to campus)? I read somewhere that some D1 programs were planning to use their open scholarships to up two dozen portal transfers and a half dozen incoming freshman. I completely expect to see abysmal rating numbers from tonight’s national championship game. Who wants to watch a team made of up first year guys, most of whom will be in the portal tomorrow… win or lose? -

I'm insulted. I've had way worse takes than this... you weren't paying attention. -

I know the thread was about Smith, but I was thinking of both young men (and hundreds of others who we are reading about daily… “former four star WR enters the portal after one season at …..” or “so-and-so decommits from …. by tweeting that he is re-opening his recruiting”) when I wrote it. It’s hard to compare BC to Jasper, since most of our kids go on to college anyways… my understanding is that Smith is the only 2025 Jasper graduate that will be attending college, period. But you have guys like Wooster, Matt Bryant, and Shane Dronett who have had remarkable careers after leaving Bridge City… and a State Championship. Y’all just salty cause you got all that NFL talent and can’t win when it matters. -
What's this "macho" you speak of, Pawpaw?

Here's the crazy part... I can think of two guys from SETX that are currently on NFL rosters. Grayland Arnold (Kountze) committed to Baylor, then stuck with his commitment when Briles got the boot.... Then you have Roschon Johnson (PNG) who went to UT as a qb, then accepted a move to RB and is now in the NFL. I don't expect many kids who can't keep their commitments to a school show any commitment to their career, either. The transfer portal and NIL are ruining college football, and by definition the NFL careers of many very talented athletes who will never develop their craft because they're too busy trying to land someplace else. But that's just me. Carry on. Good luck with the Longhorns next year. We'll all be curious as to where you end up for 26. -
Ummmm… way more applied for BC than WOS two years ago. To be exact, only 13 applicants wanted to take the reins at WOS, which is impressive considering that they are the winningest football program in Texas. id expect less applicants in five years when Hickman decides to go elsewhere.

Anybody checked on 89Falcon? -
It’s very debatable, because I don’t care how athletically gifted a team is…without coaching, they’ll be going home by the third round. It’s a toss-up as to which is more valuable when both are equally necessary to achieve success. Like a hall of fame coach said “you can’t win the Kentucky Derby with a mule,” but when he left they’ve made a first round exit two years in a row.

Science teaches - to have a fire you need three things… fuel, air, and ignition source. I’d argue that to have a TOP TIER football program, you need athletes, coaching, and community support. Sometimes you end up with a really talented bunch of kids or a really exceptional coach and it’s the last thing that you needed… but not “the biggest reason for our success.” You can look at the recent local rises and falls of historic programs and take your own conclusions, but the fact remains… you’ve got to have all three to be consistently successful. Did Coach Rowe at Bellville finally learn how to coach over the summer? No, he’s got a good group of kids. PNG has shut a lot of mouths that said “you’ll never see another SC from mid-county-they don’t have the athletes.” WOS is an example of what a great coach (or a not-so-good coach) can accomplish with a group of good athletes. It takes all three (talent, coaching, and support) with the first two being almost equally important and the last being a minority third.

Well, it won’t take them long…. Since it’s the first game of the day and there won’t be anybody in the stands to clear out. -

Who will they be clearing out? This is the first game of the day. -
There were literally three false starts by Huntsville’s offense on their first drive against PNG. Liberty Hill’s coach chose a stadium that would limit PNG’s fan base from attending in force. Own it. Be proud. Even if it gives off SERIOUS feminine energy.

That surprised me week before last. I knew BV would stuff the run, but I didn't think they'd do it with basically four on the line. I think the Jasper game probably was a more true reflection of how BV stacks up against the really good teams of 4AD2. Silsbee laid an egg over in Spring.... Bellville is a better team, but not a 50+ point better team. I'm pulling for BV in this one.
