  1. But to further clarify.. I'm not saying that WOS should have hired a white guy, or they can't win with a black coach.... that's untrue. I just think that a lot of good coaches of all colors decided to skip the circus down in WOS. The public (through their racist actions) empowered the super/admin to make what seems to be a bad hire. That's my point.
  2. Here's the thing... they had a hall of fame coach in CT. There was petition passed around to have him replaced because he was a "racist." Then he retired. Many in the community had already expressed a desire that the next HC at WOS be black. Because, of course, some people wrongly believe that it's not racist to say "yeah, we're gonna hire a black dude this time." By the time that the applicant list was released, there were only 13 applicants for the position of Head Coach of the winningest football program in Texas. 13. Do you want to guess how many people applied for the last opening for a perennial loser like BC? But don't take my word for it. [Hidden Content] How many of those 13 applicants weren't black? Three or four by my math... and the reason is that EVERYBODY knew that the folks making the decisions in West Orange were going hire a black dude, no matter what... especially in light of the petition that they passed around to get rid of the best thing that ever happened to West Orange Football. So you really shouldn't be too surprised when the people who follow the sport are delighting in the fact that the community/admin's racist ploy to hire "a coach that looks like us" has blown up in their faces. My opinion? WOS should have hired the best guy for the job (regardless of his/her skin color), but it was gonna be hard to find another Hall of Fame coach... and previously playing for one or even working as an assistant under one won't do the trick, as evidenced by the win/loss records of guys like Toby. But you only have yourselves to blame for the mess you find yourselves in now. Who knows? Maybe if you hadn't been so overt in your branding CT a racist and then publicizing the fact that y'all didn't care if a coach was any good, just so long as he was black, you'd have gotten some decent candidates. The public and the admin decided that some things were more important than winning, and they got what they asked for.
  3. And I WILL be dry humping that mascot if we pull this off.
  4. Hey, now! That’s a personal attack and you don’t allow those. But to your point, WOS fans still don’t get it. You can’t just plug a guy into those shoes and have the same results. WOS fans have long since believed that their athletes are somehow the best in the land, superior to everybody else, when in fact they weren’t superhuman, but your coach was. It’s not about moving away from the 50 defense. There are tons of schools that run the 50 and lose-going back to it isn’t going to fix things for y’all. If we all agree that the super was naive for thinking that “just anybody” could step in an continue winning, are the fans any less naive for thinking that some other somebody can step in and the winning pick right back up? If WOS wants to go back to state, it’s easy… they just need to hire another future hall of famer. But there weren’t any on that expansive list of 13 that applied two years ago. Which brings up the question, “how in the world does the winningest program in Texas only draw 13 names?” Where were the guys who wanted to grab up a few more rings before they retire? It wasn’t facilities. Nobody else has seat warmers.
  5. I’d like to remind everybody that I asked earlier this year which we’d see first… WOS winning a dc or WOS missing the playoffs? They’re going to be a three or four seed, but they’d better be glad BC and HJ are having crappy years or we might be having a completely different conversation.
  6. Better now than when they’re no longer the winningest program in the state.
  7. WOS isn’t a bad team… they’re just not great anymore and it doesn’t sit well with the Mustang faithful. This is a tough district with Silsbee looking like they’re on the elite level, with WOS, Jasper, and HF all mixing it up for those 2-4 slots. WOS in its current configuration would still win a lot of DCs in most districts… just not the one they’re currently in. The Glory Days of going to state are gone, and just like it is for most teams, they aren’t coming back. It’s no longer a football program with a school, but a school with a football team, just like it should be.
  8. I’m picking HF to win this one with execution and winning the penalty battle. On paper it’s too close to call. Should be a good one.
  9. This would be a great week for Coach Hickman to lock down that contract extension.
  10. I felt like this game was gonna define Jasper’s season. I expected the team to emerge as a clear upper echelon team under the new coach. I don’t think I underestimated HF, either. So much for a week 11 showdown vs Silsbee for the DC.
  11. I mean, can you blame him? The community painted him as a racist and sent him off in shame… now they’re destroying his legacy. I don’t think I’d want to sit with people that did me that way, either.
  12. It’s not a “bad” loss on the board, but just an overall poor product on the field by the Stangs. They’re leaving a lot of meat on the bone over there. I had the same thought. They’re not a bad team, they’re just better than what hit the field last night. WOS fan is coming to grips with being a good team, not a great or elite team anymore and it stings a little.
  13. That was a very emotional game, and I’m almost certain WOS only drew one unsportsmanlike late in the fourth for a late hit out of bounds on our sideline. That’s having your team under control… something neither coach can claim tonight.
  14. I'm thinking about going to this one... Trying to decide on which side ima sit. Should be more room on the WOS side, but I DID get to see a pretty decent fight (or should I say, co-ed intramural boxing match) amongst the Silsbee fans last time I sat with the maroon and white.
  15. I think it's Silsbee's game to lose, but we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that WOS just hung 50+ on Newton. I don't think Silsbee's defense has been tested yet this year. It shouldn't matter at the end of the day, but I wouldn't be surprised if this game is more of a shootout.
  16. Rivalry games are too hard to predict, but this one is Silsbee's to lose on paper. I think it'll be a higher scoring, closer contest than a lot of people are expecting.
  17. They’ve got two more wins than expected for the season
  18. Absolutely. They claimed CT was racist and needed to go. [Hidden Content] Edit…. That’s all ancient history now. We should be talking about the 2023 Stangs and what can be done to help them improve.
