You make it sound like those are the only two choices… senile or unelectable jerk. There are plenty of other options, but there are too many fools supporting a guy who they think is the answer. It’s basically people who’d rather do things their own way and fail than do them another way and actually succeed.

I’ve never been a big DeSantis guy… I was open to hear what he has to say (still am) but his campaign has kinda failed to get out of the blocks. My preference is that we don’t nominate another jerk, even though that’s what a lot of the Republican voters want. I see Trump, Christie, and Desantis all being cut from the same cloth. Overly adversarial for no particular reason, other than it apparels to the base. The only problem is that despite appealing to the base, it alienates moderates and undecideds who want more from a politician than just “giving them dirty democrats (and fellow Republicans, too) hell!” Actually, I said anybody but Trump could beat Biden, but it looks like Trump has once again grabbed old white dudes by their fematalia and they liked it…. Desantis could easily beat Biden, but he can’t win the nomination over Trump (who can’t win the general election).

I think it’s just that Desantis is just basically Trump Lite. He might fire up the lesser-informed base (if they weren’t already too busy wishing Trump would assault their ladies, too) but he’d have a hard time attracting the middle or picking off any Ds.

I’ve been saying this for years. I’m still not sure that Biden stays in the race, but I can’t think of a Dem that won’t beat Trump soundly. I don’t think there’s ever been a presidential candidate with supporters who are more loyal than Trump’s… but there’s never been a candidate who motivates more people to vote against himself, either. The election was lost the minute that Trump announced he was running. I can also say after voting Trump 2x, I won’t be voting for him again, regardless. I’ve got a feeling that I’m not alone.

I can think of a dozen reasons, and racism isn’t in the top ten. These are legitimate concerns come hiring time, and for the most part they apply to ALL applicants regardless of race…. Unfortunately these issues pop up more in some communities. For instance, an applicant might get passed over if his/her speaking patterns lack professionalism. if they have previous felony convictions. If they failed a pre-employment drug screening (marijuana). If a candidate lacks all of the necessary educational credentials. The candidate might not own all of the tools required for skilled work. If a candidate has poor credit history they would be considered a bad fiduciary agent for company. If a candidate has a poor work attendance history-absenteeism, tardiness. If the applicant is worried about losing benefits if they get a job. Single moms with kids have a harder time finding jobs that have a schedule that works around childcare. Add to that the likelihood that you will face a wrongful termination lawsuit if you have to let a black person go, what would you do as a business owner? I can only tell you from experience and what I’ve seen. I lived and worked in Port Arthur. Our crews tended to be very diverse… black, Asian, white, Hispanic all represented. It was hot, tiring work, didn’t pay as well as plant work. We’d pretty much hire anybody that could fog a mirror. The fact is that when most guys swung by and got an application, they’d fill it out and bring it back… and they’d respond for an interview…. Black dudes not so much. I’d guess that 1 out of 20 would bring the app back (and they’d typically get hired). But most then would never bring the app back- they were just making contact for their unemployment benefits/parole/probation. It was kind of a running joke. They’d swing by with coordinated shoes/shirt/ballcap and some jewelry and you’d know that they were just making the rounds. Port Arthur would love to hire black cops… they get no applicants. The plants like to hire black people… qualified black people is the problem. But it’s not true to say “racism” is the reason that the black employment rate is lower than others. Yelling “racism” is just as dumb as yelling “cause they’re all lazy.”

She was bad, no doubt… but I think it was a perfect set of circumstances that got Trump elected. Not only was she detestable, you had the media putting her out there as all-but-guaranteed to win, and I think that it made a lot of would be-Clinton voters complacent about voting in 2016. Long story made short is that I believe a lot of potential Clinton votes stayed home in ‘16 because they didn’t believe Trump could win… and they learned their lesson in regards to staying home for 2020. Honestly? I think a do-over between Trump and Hillary would probably result in a Clinton win. We’ll never know because the major political parties usually don’t give a candidate a second try… once your nominated and lose, you don’t get the support of the party again… but for some reason repubs think that they can run it back with Trump and it’ll all work out this time. I think demographics will make this cycle worse than before. Every day a few thousand kids turn 18 and the numbers show that they tend to vote D. Every day that hold a few hundred funerals for old people who would tend to vote R. It’s a nightmare to any political strategist. I will say this though… Trump has sold more merch than any other President, ever, hands down… and he’s gotten a lot of nitwits who don’t understand politics to keep showing up and supporting him.

It doesn’t matter who else is running… Trump is going to win the nomination and get his tail whipped again in 2024 in the general. All that’s left to do is start working on your theories about how them dirty democrats cheated, even though y’all nominate a guy that 70% of female votes hate. I read an article the other day that stated if you had counted only the votes of men in 2020 (no votes cast by women were included), Trump would have collected something like 340 electoral votes to Biden’s <100. What’s happened since? Oh, Trump lost a rape case and then sued his accuser for defamation. Im sure that’s helped his standing with the ladies… couldn’t have hurt, anyways. Here we go.

In the past black people were completely ignored in the hiring process i some instances. And yes, it’s got to be true that sometimes lesser qualified white people have been hired over more qualified black people. In fact you can dumb it down and say that a LOT of times lesser qualified people OF ANY COLOR get hired over better qualified people OF ANY COLOR. There’s just no proof that it happens, how often it happens, or to who it happens to. HOWEVER, there is/was a government mandated plan (affirmative action) which guarantees that if both candidates are evenly matched, the minority gets the job over the white person. Even if the white person is better qualified, the black person still gets the job. And you’re okay with that because it benefits you, even though the idea of discrimination of any sort should be morally reprehensible to all of us, regardless if who it’s happening to.

Normally I’d take this time to critique all of your half-truths and whole lies regarding anyone whose last name is Biden…. But Hunter looked COKED UP on that balcony, didn’t he? Jesus, son… and Dr Jill looked like she knew exactly what was going on, lol.

Here’s the fact. You assume that a white person could have been less qualified and still get hired because of his/her skin color in the past. Affirmative Action guarantees that a less qualified candidate gets hired based on their skin color today.

First, you don’t know who was unqualified or qualified. Let’s say that a job opening pops up. 10 people apply, and they match the population perfectly. 6 whites, three Hispanics, and one black all apply… and a white person gets the job. In your mind, the white person got the job because they were white. What about the other five white guys and the three Hispanics that didn’t get hired? Doesn’t matter to you, the guy that got hired was hired because he was white. But further, Affirmative Action argues that the job belongs to the black guy, even if he was the worst qualified-because he’s black. The NFL has the Rooney Rule for coaches. At least one minority candidate must be interviewed any time that a coaching opening comes available. Sounds great… even if it is a little unnecessary because most organizations are already interviewing multiple minority candidates. But that’s where the problem comes in… let’s say that you’re Jerry Jones and you know that you want Jason Garrett to be the next head coach… but you do a few interviews to appease the nfl/minorities even though you’ve already got your guy picked out. Now everybody is mad because you wasted minority applicants’ time when you had no intention of hiring them. You literally can’t win.

They’re comparing apples to oranges. They’re basically saying that things are much better now for blacks than in the 1960s, but since blacks as a group lag behind, it’s proof of racism. You know who has done fantastically in the same timeframe? Africans who migrated here since 1964 and married black couples… their numbers are identical or better than white peoples’. Why does racism only seem to affect single parent black households and not two-parent households like yours? Certainly there must be some reason… oh, I forgot… “racism.”

It’s just the world we live in. I was watching CBS News a couple of weeks ago and they were talking with the MLB commissioner. Keep in mind that 3 of the 4 talking heads in the morning are black. The news guy hopped straight over the big news about the upcoming season to ask about any plans that the MLB has to “fix” the lack of diversity in the big leagues. Like… that’s what you want to ask about? Are we just going to pretend that the NBA isn’t almost completely comprised of black millionaires? The makeup of the nfl doesn’t reflect our racial percentages, either… but we gotta do something about baseball!!! I’m not berating the black community… I’m berating stupidity.

None of that matters today. You say “you can’t just erase the past” while simultaneously tearing down old statues, renaming schools, and trying to rewrite history. Name me a single policy in place today in the United States that is designed to oppress the black community… I’ll give you a hint… there isn’t one. Black people are given the exact same opportunities as everyone else, but they’d rather hang onto perceived slights and imagined insults while waiting for handouts than get down to business and keep up with the rest of us. The sad thing is this… you’re an example for your community. You could say “look at me and my family-we’re proof that you can easily succeed.” But you don’t… you are ashamed of your success among your peers, I’m pretty sure.

Like I said… I see a success story. Jesse Jackson was with MLK in Memphis the day he was killed… he later sat on the platform when the first black President was sworn in… what a great story. You say “oh, yeah, but why is that the only black President we’ve ever had. The next 40 should all be black, too…. We deserve it.” You never can escape from being a victim. I agree with you, though… Obama was a fine politician. He got himself elected and re-elected…. And trump is an idiot… but apparently a lot of idiots like him, too.

My source? You. Black people fled the south for places like Chicago, Detroit, California. They left to escape racist attitudes that used to be prevalent in the South and they went for JOBS. You want to pretend like there was not a single black person with a job prior to affirmative action, but then you’ll carry on about how racists destroyed the black Wall Street in Tulsa a hundred years ago. How is it that y’all had a black Wall Street if nobody could get a job? Fast forward to 2023 and you argue that every black person today should be entitled to special treatment because a few black people (but nowhere near all of them) experienced racism 3 or 4 generations ago. To be honest, if reparations were paid fairly , you’d be entitled to nothing based on your success that you like to talk about. To be completely honest, there isn’t a single living victim of chattel slavery in the US. And there hasn’t been in probably 70 years. You’ve never experienced institutional racism, either. Has somebody called you a name over the years? Probably… does that mean we all owe you something? No, ma’am. There are very few people alive today that can tell you what being a victim of racism feels like… the rest of y’all just want to pretend.

Yes, ma’am. Black people have been guaranteed a chance since 1964. And millions were given chances prior to that. I think that you don’t understand what an opportunity really is. The chance to be considered for employment is all a person is owed. The job itself isn’t the opportunity. And the idea that prior to 1964 a small segment of the black population might have been excluded from good jobs is no reason to give black people special privileges in the hiring process in 2023. But like I keep saying …. You easily agree that the NFL puts the best possible player on the field at rb, corner, etc… but they turn into a bunch of racists when they choose qbs… while the rest of us can admit that there really aren’t any black Tom Bradys, Mannings, etc… you get a lot of great dual threat qbs who can run (Lamar Jackson, Dak, Jalen Hurts, etc…) better than the white dudes and throw pretty well, but that’s not the skill set that tends to win championships. You just see color. And that is racism at its purest form

I hate it because she’s obviously not a dumb person. I just don’t know how that group mentality ever gets better. It’s deeper than simply changing voting patterns and I believe that the change would have to come internally-it’s nothing that someone from outside the group could ever initiate. That’s probably my biggest gripe about President Obama. You have a guy that could have said “look at me… I’m proof that it’s done. White people literally just elected a black president- welcome to post racial America!” Instead we got talk of reparations, affirmative action, social Justice, etc. At one point he was the most powerful man on the planet and just last week he was talking about how he’s just a victim who made it in spite of racism. The ease with which that community accepts victimhood never ceases to amaze me.

Your biases make you incapable of higher level thought. The Supreme Court just ruled that your way if thinking is unconstitutional. You believe that you are due special treatment solely because of your skin color. That’s textbook racism, ma’am. Trying to pawn it off as being part of God’s chosen race, or because of the inferiority of others, or because bad things might have happened generations ago makes no difference… it’s still wrong. But I do think that your beliefs are typical for your race, and waiting around for your special privileges instead of making a go of the system we have is why your community as a whole has fallen behind all others in practically every possible measure. You’ll never get ahead waiting for a handout.

I vaguely remember that, now that you mention it. The big picture is just hard. What are we supposed to do when a segment of the population whole-heartedly believes that they are due special treatment because of their skin color? Especially when it’s their own educated and leaders that keep pushing that false narrative?
