I honestly believe that "athletic ability" is a little down right now at HF. I agree with someone earlier who said HF looked overmatched in both size and speed. When you are inferior athletically, our past season is what you get. (in football) I am also aware that there were a lot of injuries and a lot of kids who chose not to play. Why, I don't know. Only they can answer that. The truth of the matter is, most high school athletic departments are measured by what the boys do. The girls have been contenders in all three major sports for the last three years while only the baseball team has competed in boys. Right now, our middle school has some athletes. If they all choose to stay at HF, we should be competitive for the next three or four years and the new AD will be the hero. If they choose to leave or not play, we can expect more of the same and it will be his/her fault. The rumor, and I repeat rumor, is they are considering the baseball coach.
I have to agree. The one thing I would like to add is this: HF has an oportunity to make some waves in basketball and your new AD needs to recognize how to build a basketbal program. It's more than just going to a weight room, picking up balls in the gym for 2 months and thats it.
response to your statement about the basketball program...you do understand that an AD in a 3A school is the head football coach and lives and dies by what he does on the football field. If the football team is successful, the community is happy. That's the nature of the beast. I've never heard a coach winnin in football in jeopardy of losing his job because the basketball team is 0-20 on a season. So should he really worry aboutthe basketball first? Or build his football program then Build around that?
 2.
What are the girls good at? They didn't make the basketball playoffs I don't think
Are you seriously asking this quesiton? Try the other two "main" sports that the girls play, there's your answer.
 3.
There is talent at Hamshire-Fannett
Is there enough to be competitive?
 4. Here we go again...........one team's supporters saying the other team is afraid to play them..... Here's a thought........maybeeeeeee there was not a date that both schools could agree on. It does happen  :)
 5. I have to wonder if this thread would exist if players at Silbee were in Longhorn uniforms? Me theory (opinion) is no, (however, you can never say never, because there will always be that parent that wants the coach to play the best 4 players and his/her kid). I also believe there would be compliments about the coach.......(even in Hamshire, believe it or not) I bring this up because last night I watched Duke v North Carolina and it made me think of this thread.......guess what?  NC has lost 7 ACC games and may not make the post season tournament.  So? you say.......what is the relevance?  Well, Roy Williams is coaching there and he has won more than one National Championship......the announcers kept saying that he (and North Carolina)  will be better next year because they will have "better athletes"........ Imagine that a proven coach of National Championship caliber that cannot win his conference without athletes.........are those announcers insane? I mean if you know how to coach, you should be able to coach any athlete to win a title......I mean Roy is obviously not letting the right players play, and they are not developing any type of rythm..... and lets check that pre conference schedule to see if he knows what he is doing about scheduling...I am sure that is another reason he is not having success during coference play, because of his preconference sheduling of Division II teams..... I know,........... we also need to fire those announcers right now and find some that really know what they are talking about...don't those announcers know enough about the game to know that it is all Coach Williams fault.....North Carolina needs to find a new coach! ;D
 6.
Can you believe HF will not play EC in football anymore. Seems HF made the decision during football season, before realignment even came into play. Another old rivalry gone.
How do you know it was HF that decided not to play EC?  Ever think it might be just conflict of dates or ...........maybe EC doen't want to play HF? Can you supply the evidence (and not just hear say) that HF is the reason the game is not going to be played. Side Note: I hate that it will not be played.........I believe it is good for both communities
 7. "Or maybe even you could take your own advice and take your kid somewhere where they have a basketball coach who doesn't have to teach??" Is there a 3A school where the basketball coach doesn't have to teach?  I could see where that might be possible in larger 4A or 5A schools (even though I would think even there, that would be more of an exception than the rule).  I think it would be rare (if at all) that would be the case in 3A and below classifications.  Do you know of any schools where the basketball or any coach doesn't have to teach?  As I think back, most of the coaches that I had in school taught something (some taught PE, but not all.....the others taught math, biology, history)
 8.

Well, all I know is if I had to start a team and got to choose whoever I wanted out of 21-3A, I would start with Felts of Orangefield. He may not be the best pitcher, but he is by far the best player in the entire area. Felts will be the only player from this class locally to play professionally at a high level.
Are you trying to start a debate?????
The point of a forum, no?

Always tough there.
It was a good win, but "IMO and the opinion of a lot of other parents at schools in the area, it is not possible to get an unbiased game called while playing in HF."    ;D
What "exactly" are you saying  cat ?
 10.
Well once again our referees "helped" determine a district game! Way to go refs! Such a shame.
I have known several referees over the years and I have NEVER AND I REPEAT NEVER, heard on one ref talking about helping one team win a game.....how absurd........I call BS! The people I have known do the job for the love of the game and are usually past their "playing days" and want to give something back. I will agree however, as in any job or profession (including yours if you have one), that there are people that do a better job than others.  So while there may have been officials that you believe would have done a better job in the game you are referring to, you will never make me believe that officials "helped" one team defeat another. So unless you have specific hard evidence that it occurred, don't complain about it on a board, take it to the UIL.......and have something done about it. Better yet, why don't you put on a striped shirt and do the job and prevent fellow refs from "helping" another team win a distict game. I can't stand people that complain about something they have never done nor have the B@!!& to try it....I am sure that UIL or TASO would welcome you.  There always seems to be a shortage of officials

 12. New situation: Team A is winning by 5 or more points.  Clock is running down.  Team B creates a turnover from Team A as clock is about to expire.  Team A player excessively shoves and throws elbow into inteceptor (worthy of a technical foul) just after buzzer sounds.  Should technical be given even though it will not change outcome of game?
 13. [IMG][Hidden Content]] I have a Transylvania Vampire bat 32"/29 oz to be exact. I found him in a castle.  List price is $300 but he's a year old now so I'll take the best offer.
 14. This question may have already been asked before, but in reality, how many games are people believing that the Cards will win in the first 3 seasons?
 15. Kind of hard to keep one like this going when everyone that was posting it lost their bowl games.
 16. I tell ya what EC......call all your friends and tell them you would like to haul their kids over the "Rainbow" bridge tonight or tomorrow night around 10pm or later(about the times games are over and visiting teams are travelling home) and see how many takers you have.....It's all about the condensation or moisture that could possibly be on bridges that span over a body of water.......that moisture freezes at 32 degrees F and could result in ice on those bridges.  Wind chill has nothing to do with it, but, I would hate to be the driver of a bus going over a body over water, where there is freezing temperatures and the wind is gusty enough to push the wind chill down to near 0 (as stated in your beloved Beaumont Enterprise link).  That sort of wind would "play heck" on a bus I would imagine. Why take a chance?  If there is the slightest possibility of ice on an overpass or bridge, why risk the safety of the  kids for a basketball game? If your team does not have to travel over those bridges, then I see no reason for them to cancel.....but to make a statement about it "safer" as the day goes on without knowing the travel routes of the visiting schools? How much sense does that make?  I mean I have planned fishing trips based on weather forecasts of sunny skiles and light winds.....only to be blown off the water.....so believe every weather forecast is 100% accurate and see how far that gets you (no offense Coop) Again, I repeat, kids safety should always come first................ ;D
 17.
We (this area) just act ridiculous sometimes. Here is REAL weather: [Hidden Content]
Ridiculous??????????EC?  You would probably be one of the first to call for everybody's job that decided to have games if your kid's bus wrecked because of icy conditions  (even though the weatherman said it wouldn't.....I mean how many times has a weather forecast been wrong? ??) How would you like to be the driver of that bus going over the "Rainbow" bridge and it hit a patch of ice?......things to consider......... The safety of the kids comes first in my book...
 18. To me, it seems as if it's Orangefields to lose at this point.  Having signed two players with two of the top Big XII schools, and returning as many as they are, can anyone give me a reason as to why the shouldn't be a favorite this year?  And for those who don't know how impressive having 2 division 1 players on one team, can anyone name the last time this has happened?
 19. Can we archive these posts so that we can pull them back up when some of the same people will be on the football board crying foul when they feel their team got the score run up on them? And we can say, it's just the nature of the game.  K thanks.
 20. They got all up in arms about A&M having the Saw 'em off logo.
 21.
Regardless of what happened it makes Cleveland look bad.  The news report made those two coaches out as already guilty when none of us really know anything about what really happened.
First, that's mainstream media for you.  They are looking for the "shock value" and they got it. But I wouldn't put any stock into what they are saying and I'll give you a perfect example of why...Remember Balloon Boy? Remember how he was up in that thing and they had to find some way to get him out...Oh wait, but then he had fallen out and they had cropped still frames and blurred a spot on them and circled them and talked as if that was him falling? But then he was just in the attic and it was all for show?  Not that this is a show, but my rant focuses on the media and all the B.S. that goes with it.  I pretty much have given up on our media system (except for ESPN, KFDM weather, and Gabe of course  ;)) as I don't really know what to believe anymore.  I'll let the authorities do their job and then when they come to a decision be happy to deliberate the outcome, but until then, why not focus on the guys that did what they had to to make the playoffs and put the focus on being happy for them and wishing them luck and not let it be a distraction, though I already know it is.   Good luck Cleveland in your game, though I'll have to pull for BC as they are out of the district I played in.
