  1. OF was on fire in the 1st half. They hit 8 3's. #1 (Evans) was 6/7 from downtown and had 19 pts at the half. OF led by 15 at the break. WO-S came out at the half a completely different team. They were flying around and playing their hearts out. With their season hanging by a thread, they outscored OF 22-9 in the fourth for a huge comeback win. Congrats to the Mustangs on a great second half and a huge win! Quest Watson led the Stangs with 28 pts.
  2. Let's just focus on the big game tonight big guy! ;D
  3. Should be a good one! Go Mustangs.
  4. Congrats to Coach Crouch! LC-M got the right man for the job. We're going to miss you over here in Stang Country.
  5. Good luck Coach Robertson and the Pirates!
  6. SSHHH! You cannot speak of basketball around WO-S.....it could destroy the football program.
  7. Ouch Granny! I know we're not Silsbee, but we're 14-6 and have won 9 of our last 10. I'll remind KFDM that they are only allowed to cover Silsbee, HJ, and Ozen. :
  8. Hardin, Anahuac, Coldspring, Cleveland...just to name a few. These schools have a high amount of economically disadvantaged students from various races/ethnicities. Hardin: Econ. Disadvantaged - 50% At Risk - 37% AA - 3 % white - 88% Anahuac: Econ. Disadvantaged - 50% At Risk - 45% AA - 20% white - 54% Coldspring: Econ Dis. - 59% At Risk - 47% AA - 24% white - 70% Cleveland: Econ. Dis. - 69% At Risk - 54% AA- 14% white - 51 % Nice try, but still no where near 80% economically disadvantaged. The demographics in these districts are not even close to the ones already listed for WO-S. Like I said, it's hard to comprehend the situation from the outside.
  9. elhector, I agree 100%. The parents need to step up and be responsible. But if they don't and many won't, once again you are punishing the child because the adults mistakes. So sad....
  10. Name me a district with these same conditions and I will check the numbers. And no, most coaches do not shuttle kids home. It is a major liability to their livelihood (accusations, lawsuits, etc). I realize some coaches do it, but to say that most do is reaching. I guess if you are not from within the situation, you cannot grasp how bad it really is.
  11. What to you define as a true loss? IF the buzzer goes off and you have less points, that is a true loss.
  12. Not necessarily moving to another school. Could be drop out potential. If a kid is going home after school to the streets everyday...the streets could end up winning.
  13. I was not overly impressed with the performance on WO-S last night. It seems that maybe they got a little too comfortable after a BIG weekend. They still have a long way to go if they want to compete with Silsbee and HJ.
  14. Cowboy, I agree with what your saying. The financial future of the school must be a top priority. But do you understand that if just 3 or 4 students leave because of this, then the district is losing more money than the amount they are spending on transportation.
  15. Aggie, Those numbers came from aeisitonline, TEA and Silsbee's district webpage. They are from the 2007 school year as 2008's has not been released. Your can search any district's demographics through TEA if you know where to look. I believe the most glaring number is almost 80% of the kids in WOCCISD are economically disadvantaged. It is a unique situation that most schools and towns do not have to deal with.
  16. Cowboy, Your missing the point. Yes there MAY be a handful of VARSITY players with a car, but not enough to get their teammates home. What about the Freshman and JV who cannot even drive. And the whole reason the transportation is provided is because the parents, or any most cases parent is not there to pick their child up. Once again don't punish the kid for the mistakes of the adult.
  17. The academic bus is for students who choose to stay after school for tutorials and such. ANd yes if the academic team needed a bus home, one was provided.
  18. BUC, How is providing a way home from practice to those kids with no way home in any way putting sports before academics?
  19. And yes there is an academic bus at 5:30 after school EVERY day.
  20. Apples and Oranges.... Silsbee: Economically Disadvantaged- 43% At Risk- 41% African American- 18% White- 77% East Chambers: Economically Disadvantaged - 47% At Risk - 45% African American - 10.7% White - 65% WO-S: Economically Disadvantaged - 78% At Risk - 59% African American - 65% White - 27% You cannot compare these districts. The bus service is something that has been provided of decades, not just to sports but to other extra-curricular activities as well.
  21. Aggies, You have not been around WO-S much if you believe the demographics of Silbee and WO-S are even close to comparable.
