Cleveland wins 54 - 41

"Tyler said the decision to transfer was up to him and his father. Their reasoning: Ozen head coach David Suggs was on his way out and a fourth coach in four years did not appeal to either of them. " How is that not a move for athletic purposes? I don't care really. Silsbee is gonna beat my team with or without him.

Cleveland allowed maybe 1 or 2 first downs against anahuac when they scrimmaged a couple of weeks ago. They also scored around four times and made a few mistakes that cost them a few more scores. This looks to be a bigger and faster team than the last 2 years. They also have been able to throw the ball pretty well. I have heard good things about Liberty but I'm biased towards Cleveland but I'd say this is a close game that Cleveland pulls out in the fourth. 35-27 Cleveland!

What are you even talking about idk? Oh wait your screen name says it all. You got your money back because no game took place genius. Maybe that's not how it works in Shepherd but throughout the rest of the state that's what happens when you purchase a ticket to a game that then gets cancelled. You kept saying the officials called the game. That was not the case. The officials and everyone involved on the Cleveland side wanted to wait out the weather. Shepherds coach waited until 8 and then packed up. So as far as his reasons I don't know. But I do know that Cleveland and the officials were fine with waiting. There's no forfeit because it's a nondistric game. But that doesn't matter to me. I just wanted these boys get to play a game they have worked for on both sides. So whatever you say about his reasoning is whatever, but that game didn't take place because shepherd wasn't ok with waiting. Which sucks for the kids on both teams.
-
Honestly I don't know why he called the game. I just think it's ridiculous to only wait 30 minutes after the original start time of a game to call it. The rain wasn't pouring down. It was a drizzle. The only thing that was stopping the game was lightning which was gonna pass through for good by 830. For the first game of the season with a team only 15 minutes away I would think there would be more effort to play that game. And before people start saying it was the officials that called it, everyone I talked to said the officials were waiting to find out what the two teams wanted to do. So whatever his reasoning was for calling the game it robbed both teams a game that they won't get back.

I really love how a team can have a couple of down seasons and people start to forget how they've been dominated by them on a consistent basis. So let me give you a reminder. Shepherd has won the previous two years. Two years in which they had some unusual talent on their team. However since Cleveland has started to consistently play shepherd the last 18 years, Cleveland has a 15-3 Win loss record. That includes the past 2 years. Now as far as the game last night the officials were willing to wait out the storm as was Cleveland. However from multiple reports Shepherds coach was unwilling to wait. Maybe it was the long drive home, maybe it was because they didn't want to mess up the field in Cleveland, or maybe he didn't want to start the season by getting blown out.
-
All of that sounds good except that to my knowledge that was the only game that cancelled in our area. With modern technology you can tell when the weather will clear up. The lightning didn't persist much past 8 pm. As for the field getting messed up, the game is football not baseball.
-
I know that Shepherd decided to cancel and not reschedule their game with Cleveland last night. I'm curious to see if any other teams decided to do that as well.
-
Splendora is 7 miles south on 59 and they played their game. Just doesn't make sense.
-
Family member told me that shepherds coach called the game at 745 and wasn't interested in waiting for the weather to clear up or even reschedule. But hell they have a JV game They were gonna play on Saturday that got called because of lightning Thursday. Seems like shepherd got scared.
-
No offense to HF, but they won't be able t slow BC down at all. They don't have size or speed. Cleveland dominated them. I'm encouraged by how Cleveland looks so far but they aren't anything more than a dark horse for forth in their district.
-
Neither is team is good. They are going to beat the hell out of each other the entire game and eventually Tarkington will wear down and give up late scores. If you're evenly matched then it goes to whichever team holds it together longer. Numbers matter.
-
Splendora will win by 14. Tarkington isn't very deep and that's gonna lead to them giving in late.

Cleveland/Hamshire-Fannett/Tarkington/Post scrimmage comments here!
Kegger replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Cleveland has a variety of weapons offensively. Saw 3-4 different players score loooong TDs for them. HF has some scrappers out there. When it was HF vs Tarkington, HF seemed to move the ball pretty easily. However neither HF nor Tarkington could consistently do much against Cleveland. Tarkington looks like they might be in for a rough year. -
Anahuac at Cleveland/Post scrimmage comments here!
Kegger replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Anahuac looked small up front and it showed against clevelands big dline. Think anahuac only got 3 first downs the whole scrimmage. Cleveland scored three times but had two sure scores dropped by their receiver. Basically Cleveland was bigger and faster than anahuac. -
1/2 Navasota, Silsbee 3 Bridge City 4 Cleveland 5 Huffman 6 LCM Bridge City has the potential to upset either of the top 2 teams. Would not be surprised to see a 3 way tie at the top. Got a nephew that plays for Cleveland and all he keeps telling me is how much better they are so I gotta go with the fam for the 4th and final playoff spot.
-
Track meets involving those 3 schools and Liberty are like watching family reunions. Many of those kids have attended 2 or more of those schools throughout their school career. Athletes move around a ton in that area. Not to mention many play on the same AAU teams.
-
Coldspring will be good but not dominant. They lost some studs and their JV and Freshmen weren't great. However, with Shepherd and Cleveland being so close to Coldspring, I would not be surprised to see some move ins try and take advantage of playing 3A football.

Given the way the school board handled his extension, will there be a reluctance to apply for this job by top coaches? I would assume that the talent and facilities will still attract a large number of candidates, but the ones that have plenty of options may decide to stay away.
