Indicates the respect WOS has for the Newton program. Perhaps y’all could reciprocate and name something after WOS. Like Mustang stadium? Or the street WOS Parkway?

The fact that PNG gets ranked when other area teams don’t is because of their history. Many years ago, they were a state powerhouse. Many still remember that. That’s all the voters know. Any other team in this area could be the best in Texas, but wouldn’t get in those rankings (unless they beat a ranked team) prior to week 5. Teams like Allen, Katy, Lake Travis, would be ranked early if they fielded their JV. As Hoops said so succinctly, polls are for strippers.

For me, this game is a real head scratcher. Both have had some impressive games, then other games they both have seemed to struggle. If both bring their “A” game, it ought to be a durn good one.

Sadly, history supports that. I hope this year is different, but it’ll take physical dominance of the Pirate OL. And on D, keeping RJ contained (no easy feat), & the Pirate secondary not letting folks behind them. It’s a conundrum.

The deal is, since PNG can no longer beat Ned, the Vidor vs Ned game has become the big rivalry game (forget the fact that Vidor can't beat Ned either lol). It's officially called TCM - Two County Madness. Nothing to compare it to.

Great post. I sit through way to many terrible seasons at Vidor. Coach Matthews may not have a winning record, but he puts a good team on the field, and has changed the attitude there. Just wish there would’ve been someone like him when my son played.

My first look at this thread. Notice all the derogatory remarks about it. I also noticed this is Page 4. Personally, I find it interesting. Ordinarily, Newton couldn’t compete with the 5A’s in the area, but this Newton team is anything but. Imo, the games with PNG, Ned, and Vidor would be close, exciting matchups. Backing the Eagles to a State Championship.
