I think HP simply played better as a team. But never underestimate the leadership role Jones plays on that team. I'd bet every Scot felt like he'd somehow, someway, pull the game out. Yes, it was a team effort, but Jones instills that mindset that yes, we can win. Imo, that's a leader.

Just wanted to add one more comment about the HP vs Manvel game (and what a fantastic, game it was) I don't think anyone has alluded to. I don't think anyone will argue Manvel has an outstanding defense. Prior to the SC game, they allowed their opponents only 14.3 points per game. They held The Scots to 10 points in the first half. Then, against that impressive defense, Highland Park scored 43 points in one half. That's huge, bordering on the impossible, and certainly highly improbable. In the excitement after the game, I didn't think about it after it was over, but watching the last half again today, it finally dawned on me how impressive that 2nd half effort by the Scots was, especially against a team loaded with D1 talent. Imo, that game will rank up there as one of the best SC games of all time. It epitomizes what Texans love about HS football.

I don't think I'm alone in suspecting WOS may not win today. Has nothing to do with the coaching staff, which I confidently say is one of the best in the state. Nor with the team, which were overachievers. But for a school WOS size to lose so many starters and win another SC, was a tough row to hoe. And that being said, everyone that was backing this Mustang team, should be exceptionally proud of them. They exceeded all the experts projections. They did more with heart than most schools can do with talent. Jmo And for our lone Hawk poster, congrats to them on winning that first SC. Great coach there also. They were truly impressive.
