Should Home School Kids be Able to Participate in School Sports
Hagar replied to Hagar's topic in High School Football
You highlighted the reference to knee jerk reaction, and then proceeded to talk about kids missing athletic period. If you'd taken the time to read the whole thing, you'd noticed the first line in my post said that attending athletic period should be mandatory. That in itself could be construed as "knee jerk", at best, and lack of reading comprehension at worst. Yes, coaches make the decision on who plays, and we saw how well that worked in Celina. Had I been that kids coach, that would've been the end of his playing, for that year at a minimum. And you would hold it against a kid simply because of his parents. What about a kid at school that plays and his father committed murder. Would you play him, or keep him on the bench simply because of his parent. You may have been a coach, and a good one, but it appears you care nothing about kids -
Should Home School Kids be Able to Participate in School Sports

I suspect Tim Tebow was accepted. Surely not initially, but he earned their respect. I'm sure it would be difficult, and many would quit, but for the handful of true good homeschooled athletes, it'll give them an opportunity, despite their parents. -

Should Home School Kids be Able to Participate in School Sports

If a homeschooled kid really wants to play sports, I'd think attending the Athletic Period would be mandatory. And any off season programs. Academic requirements could be monitored by the schools (at some big schools, ever wonder why a JV team might lose 10 players to grades but the Varsity only 1, and he wasn't a starter?). If allowed to play in big Districts with residence requirements in the District, they'd have to play at the school of their residence. I don't have a dog in this hunt, but before you make a knee jerk reaction, you should remember, the vast majority of kids who are home schooled are done so by the parents decision, not the kids themselves. I doubt you'd have a big number of kids who do want to play, but for the few that do, and their parents will let them, why punish the kid? There are many incidents of unwarranted violence in HS sports. The kid from SA who hit the Ref in the back. The Celina QB. The recent fight (one of several across the state I'm sure) at a local basketball game. Those kids all got a second chance. Why? Because they're kids. They made a mistake. The homeschooled kid hasn't made a mistake. Him/her are homeschooled because of their parents. What not give them a (first) chance? -
Over the last few years our area has had numerous embezzlement cases. And yesterday I heard of a lady working in one of our local churches who had embezzled $75K, and another local lady today who embezzled $80K from a school group. Understand, I'm no accountant. Rather I'd mention one of the last lines of Our Lords Prayer, "Lead us not into temptation". That is what happens when any organization allows one person to handle the money. If any of you are involved with any group that collects, or handles money, please set financial accounts up where it takes at least two people to sign off on any transactions. It's not an absolute cure all , but it'll certainly make embezzlement much more difficult. Don't put that much temptation on one person.

Great Post! That stuff is interesting. I understand the saying, "The whole nine yards", came from the gunners on WW-II bombers over Europe were given 27 feet of belted ammunition. When they come back in, they'd say they shot the whole nine yards. Saw a documentary on how the military Tank got its name. When the British were first developing them, they'd transport on rail cars and cover with a tarp. Since it was a top secret project, when folks would ask what it was, they would say it was a tank (vessel).

I'd go with the grizzly. I'd think he have the reach advantage, and as baddog said, them four inch Buck knives hanging out of them paws would rip that gorilla to pieces. But if that gorilla got inside, who knows? Wouldn't want to referee lol.

Here's some disturbing facts concerning lack of media coverage of this rape. Media bias? That is to nice a word. [Hidden Content]

I can't fathom how she has so many people fooled. That woman, and her circle, are the sorriest, conniving, lowest, pos, I've ever seen in politics. And old as I am, that's saying a bunch.

That's the Hillarynthe left knows (not) and loves. Champion of women's rights? Bull poop. And Comey probably had her goons (cigarette man from the X-Files) visit him to protect her.

I've repeatedly said, Comey can only speak for the FBI. He has no idea if the Secret Service, or any of the 16 of our Govt intelligence agencies might have spied on Trump or his people. A fact that all the media, including Fox, seems to forget. I'll bet we haven't heard the last of this fiasco. [Hidden Content]

Never went to A&M, but always admired their honor code, and the way they looked out for each other. This stains the honor, and exhibits a backstabbing quality I would've never expected. Very sad for this to happen at one of the last bastions of conservative principle. And if Mr. Brooks had any honor, he would've refused the position.

Since things are kinda quiet here, I've been wanting others opinions on this. Hypothetically only, say I live in Evadale and home school my kids. My son wants to play school football. Do you think he should be allowed to play? Remember, in this scenario, I pay school taxes to EISD. Although this is just hypothetical. I think home school kids should be able to play. As for as I know, it's not allowed now in Texas. I've read that Tebow was home schooled in Florida where it's legal. Just wanted some thoughts.

Under Obama? I looked it up. There's only one question. Will you always vote democrat? I'm sorry. The devil made me do it. -
Imo, what the proponents of Obamacare think is that everyone will get the same healthcare. That's not going to happen. When I was on my employer insurance, I could get better healthcare than someone on welfare. And the rich could obtain better than me. Besides, as repeatedly stated on this Forum, when Congress exempted themselves, that exemplified how terrible it was. And once again for those on the Left, to know how well our Govt runs healthcare, checkout the problems our Veterans have, or go to an Indian Reservation. And my own experience when forced on Medicare. My wife and I lost our Personal Physician, and she lost her female Dr. Neither one takes Medicare.
-
I just remember him saying he'd change it & it would be better, which I personally think is absurd. And if the Repubs did repeal it (which it needs to be imo, simply because the cost is prohibitive), they'd be demonized by the Left and the Media. It's the 800lb gorilla in a very small room that no one knows what to do with it.
