No way I am. Hornets have played some good teams close. I do think the Rebels are improving, and IF they soundly beat Hemphill, I'll get more excited about our chances of going undefeated through the regular season. This Evadale team is really solid. Focus. Focus. Focus!

Those last few words are important, especially if you're trying to build a program. For instance. The gimme first game, the JV played the whole second half. At Evadale, you're talking about Fr & Soph, and getting on the field on a Friday varsity football game, builds enthusiasm for these young men. Can't imagine how many walked off that field dreaming of their time on varsity in a year or two. But again, I think Evadale has a good non Dist sch. Other than Iola, or this year HD, head and shoulders above the competition in District. For whatever reason, to many "gimme" games there.

Based on your thoughts, and others above, I agree. I think Coach Williams does a good job of that. First game was a gimme. Maybe Evadale and Sugarland Logo Preps were both desperate for someone to play (like WOS & Kipp). But all of the other 4 are above Evadale's classification. Two 3A schools, and two 2A D1 schools. Especially in small schools, who knows who's going to be good, and who isn't most of the time. Evadale and Hull Daisetta are two that are much improved. Two years ago, we might have been 2-2 at this point, with this schedule. Just hope the Rebels are focused. The next two games could be losses if they aren't ready mentally. I agree it'll be close (barring one team getting fumblitis). Heck, it was close last year and Vidor had a dismal season & Ned wins Dist. This will be a hard nose football game.

Don't be fooled by 3A Hemphill's 0-4 record. They haven't been blown out, and the last two defeats against West Sabine, always tough, and Beckville, who is 4-0. Evadale will enter the game as #15 (if I did my math right) in the State in the AP poll for 2A. Only one vote, but by George, we'll take it. While I expect the Rebels to win, I'm not looking for a blowout. What say y'all?

I would think it was pretty even, but HD just keeps winning. Not sure what they're doing different. Just speculating they upped there players signing bonus.

Been quite a few years since Vidor's had a decent pass defense. But if the Pirates control the ball, Ned won't be throwing to many passes. One thing for sure, be plenty of black & gold.

Congrats to Coy Williams for Evadale. Does a great job of slowing to allow the excellent downfield blocks, then turns on the jets. Great athlete.
