That could happen too. Buna has beaten Tarkington once early in the season, but I've seen Buna lose to opponents not nearly as good as them. All depends on what Buna team shows up.
-
Buna is really good man. I think they could win on any given night when at their best.

TAPPS Constitution/By-Laws - Google Docs The information most want to see is in Subchapter K, Section 87. Seems to me there may be more trouble ahead for Kelly HS.
-
I don't even have a kid in HS. They evidently broke the rules so they have to face the consequences. The coach is at WB is only stating the correct reason the kids transferred on the paperwork.
-
It doesn't benefit him. You just openly admitted the kids are leaving for athletic reasons. Do you suggest he lie on the paperwork? If that's the truth it is what it is. Kelly had this coming. The baseball program has been doing the same kind of things. Do not be surprised if TAPPS investigations head that way next.
-
I'm not talking about any of that with Kelly. All good things. Only talking about the competition they had to play to win a TAPPS State Championship last year.
-
^^^^This right here^^^^ Only 11 teams in the "state playoffs" with them in baseball last season. Only 4 had winning records. That includes Kelly.. Doesn't sound like much competition to me.

I'm from Buna, and I'll say Buna played very well. They didn't outscore Lumberton, but did tie, 2 TD's to 2 TD's. Buna scored on the Lumberton 1's once and the 2nd team once. Lumberton 2nd team offense scored 1 TD and their 1st team scored 1 TD. I'd say Buna held their own.

Anahuac/Woodville is a 1 game series @ Bridge City. I believe the game is Friday night. Anahuac could take that one.

I'm not out of any loop I can assure you. However, you appear to be out of the loop in Orangefield since you have no idea who Eric Girola is. I know people made FB posts about Whitmire, etc., but he didn't leave because of that. Every coach gets that kind of crap everywhere you go. There is no perfect job. You do realize KJ and Connell are the same age right? So calling Connell "kid" to degrade him or somehow make him seem unqualified is childish and unnecessary.
-
Girola left for Orangefield last season. He was the coach of the girl's basketball team in Buna for quite a while. I didn't say boy's side or girl's side. I said you don't know anything about what is or has gone on in Buna at all. You're just making generalizations to insinuate things that didn't happen. Also, you clearly have some sort of strange issue with folks from Buna having legitimate questions about a coaching hire. The guy that was hired is 6-51 on his career. I don't care what his team was like or what teams they played at the 2A level. People have concerns about the hire, and they should.
-
No one ran off Girola. He left because of issues with the previous AD. So wherever you're getting that information from is incorrect. I can't remember the last time a coach was "ran off" due to the public opinion of "local experts." Many stay for a very long time. (Morgan, Terrier) Most, not all, leave because Buna can't pay them what they're worth. Whitmire left for a better paying job at a larger school. He's as assistant there and makes more than what Buna could pay him. No one ran him off either. You're just throwing a bunch of crap against the wall to see if you can get it to stick. Your actual knowledge of what is happening or has happened in Buna is zero. You can continue to try and defend the hire of a coach who could only manage 6 wins in two seasons at the 2A level if you like. Also, we just hired a new boys coach last season. There was plenty of interest in that job. We got a good one in Wilson.

I've done my research other than MaxPreps. MaxPreps shows Chilton at 0-19 last season, when in fact they were 0-28. The season before the actual record was 6-23 (MaxPreps says 6-6). During the 6-23 season Chilton had a play in game for the 4th seed which they lost. During those 2 seasons, only one team made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs from that district, the district champion in the 2021-2022 season. Telling me the district as a whole was fairly weak during his time at Chilton. Either way, by the time Kountze had a bad season under Joubert's watch, he had earned a pass. KJ doesn't have a track record of success to have earned that. I'll stand by my statement that if any coach with a 6-51 career record had applied for the boys job he would not have gotten an interview.
-
So we're comparing Johnson to Joubert now? It's a bit silly to even acknowledge your comment but I'll give it a go. At no point during Coach Joubert's career has he went 6-51 over the course of 2 seasons. Never had a winless season either. Like I have said, I hope Coach Johnson does great at Buna, and proves any naysayers wrong, but I have my doubts.
-
Saying all of this, I hope Coach Johnson is very successful at Buna and erases a lot of doubt early on. He will certainly have the players to do just that.
-
That's the problem. 6-51 is experience, yes, but it's not good experience. So be honest about the experience you speak of in this situation. The guy with 100 wins removed his name from consideration because he felt like the team interviewing him had already made up their mind and was uninterested in his interview. There are many upset about that as well.
-
Absolutely his decision would have been questioned. Girola left because of the previous AD Kinne. So yes, it was administration's fault. I can tell you this, I certainly don't care about the color of the guy's skin. I care about 6-51, and 0-28 last season. Let's not try to overshadow the real issue here by gaslighting by creating a race issue that isn't there.
-
I did not mean to imply he was on the girls bench. He worked with the girls at practices during their athletics all season long.
-
I never said you acted any way at all. My point was that KJ has very little experience himself, and none of that coaching experience is positive. So with neither candidate having much experience, I don't care where the coach was hired from. What I do care about is what that particular group of girls has been through coaching wise in the last couple of years. Losing Girola, then the AD at the time was not even interested in finding a girls basketball coach for the next season. The kids didn't know who their coach would be until after school started. They had to virtually beg Coach Dobbins to come out of retirement for the season. There were 3 "finalists" for the job this time around. One removed his name because he said during his interview the team interviewing him seemed "uninterested" in listening to what he had to say. This particular candidate has quite a bit of experience, and somewhere around 100 wins as a head coach. Sounds like to me this decision was made prior to there being any interviews, and that's an issue.
-
None of that is the point here.. If a coach had a 6-51 career record and applied for the boys job, does he even get an interview? I'm certain in saying no, he wouldn't. If you're going to talk about a coach with limited experience, KJ has 2 years coaching the girls at Chilton, where his stepfather is the Sup. That's limited experience as well with none of that experience being successful. Connell has 1 year under his belt coaching these girls already. He's been around and helping them out while also being on the bench for the boys games. Yes, if things don't work out Buna can simply move on, but Connell will have almost certainly moved on by then. Why would he come back to a place that didn't hire him, but instead hired a coach who Buna knows nothing about with the exception of him being unsuccessful at his last coaching job?
