OF batters Ozen, 13-1, in five Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader ORANGEFIELD — To prove how quickly things got out of hand, Jace Statum scored twice in the bottom of the first. The Orangefield Bobcats had seven hits and seven walks Tuesday night against the Beaumont Ozen Panthers on their way to a 13-1 win in five innings. Orangefield’s first seven batters all reached base and eventually scored as the Bobcats (6-0) jumped out to a 8-1 lead before the second inning. Zach Peevey got the win on the hill after hurling three innings and giving up one run on three hits with three strike outs. Peevey did not walk a batter. Brock Whitson and Quinton Evans each pitched a scoreless inning. Statum led off the bottom of the first by being hit by a pitch before Jonathan DeRamus. Jacob Felts then reached on an error which gave Statum plenty of time to score and move DeRamus to third. Chase Angelle then laced a RBI single to score DeRamus and Zach Peevey followed with a walk. Quinton Evans then had a RBI walk to score Felts to make it 3-1 before Kyle Fontenot drove in Angelle with a RBI single to center. The 4-1 score drove Ozen starting pitcher Jeffery Jolivet out of the game. Reliever Jacoby Anderson came in and sat the next two batters on strike outs. Statum then came up with the bases loaded and with a 2-2 count drove the ball into center. What seemed like a simple double turned into an inside-the-park home run to make it 8-1. The Bobcats jump on the Panthers (0-6) for four more runs in the bottom of the second. Felts led the inning off by being hit by a pitch and moved to third when Angelle advanced to second on an error. Quinton Evans plated Felts when he reached on an error and Angelle and Fontenot made it 11-1 after Fontenot ripped a two-run double. Fontenot would later score on a Derrick Evans single. Derrick Evans would score Orangefield’s last run on the night after hitting a single to center in the fourth and scoring on a wild pitch to make it 13-1. The Bobcats will host the Orangefield Tournament this week and start their play at 1:30 p.m. Thursday against Port Arthur Memorial.
