  1. Who's having intrasquad scrimmages this saturday and what time?
  2. Legacy Christian Warriors The Warriors hired former Central quarterbacks coach Bel Cobb to lead their program and hopefully get them back to the playoffs. Legacy Christian returns a total of 6 starters and has some new faces that will look to help get their program heading in the right direction in 2007. The Warriors welcome back 3 starters on offense for the 2007 season. Key offensive players include wide reciever Kale LeBouf, center James Quigley and RB Sherrod Romar. Defensively Legacy Christian also has 3 starters back from last year. Key defensive players include tackle Shelby Obrian, defensive lineman Michael Dill and the above mentioned Sherrod Romar will also star at linebacker for the Warriors. Coach Cobb says that the linebacker position will be one of the Warrior's strengths this season while the team's main weakness will be inexperience. The Warriors will open the 2007 season in week 0 at home against 24-1A member Sabine Pass. They will then have two straight road games at Lutheran North and at Hull-Daisetta. Legacy Christian will close out non-district play with a home game against Evadale. They will open district play on September 28 at Bay Area. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Legacy Christian Warriors...... 3. Liberty Panthers The Liberty Panthers finished the 2006 regular season as the 3rd place team out of district 22-3A and earned a Bi-District matchup with 21-3A champion West Orange-Stark. The Panthers were greatly outmatched and fell 60-0 to finish the year and 4-7. Coach Jeff Stewart has 15 total starters back for 2007 and will be looking to make a run at the district title this year. Key Wins Last Year: Tarkington (52-12) Shepherd (63-25) Last Year’s Scores: Bridge City 24 Liberty 20 Hamshire-Fannett 12 Liberty 0 Liberty 20 Stafford 17 Kirbyville 48 Liberty 14 Diboll 35 Liberty 20 Coldspring 12 Liberty 0 Liberty 41 Cleveland 20 Splendora 36 Liberty 16 Liberty 52 Tarkington 12 Liberty 63 Shepherd 25 WO-S 60 Liberty 0 Offensive Summary The Panthers return 7 starters from an offense that averaged 22 points per game last season. Liberty will look to QB John Erik Zalesak to be the offensive leader along with HB Michael Flores. Josh White moves to the FB position after starting at LB for the past 3 seasons. The Panther offensive line will be led by C Ethan Ballinger and OG Jake Sell. Defensive Summary Liberty also has a strong nucleus returning on defense. 8 starters are back on that side of the ball for 2007. Last season the Panther defense allowed 27 points per game and should improve on that number this year. The defensive leader will be LB Dante Winters who finished 2006 with 99 tackles. The Panther secondary should be very good led by FS Steven Gee and SS Justin Dalco. Also look for Liberty to have a very strong defensive line with the likes of NG Arlando Senegal, DT James Riddick and DE Cullen Casey. Other Defensive Impact Players: Jeffrey Gibbs (CB) Liberty will open the 2007 season on the road at Bridge City in week 0. Week 1 will see Liberty at home to take on the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns. A huge non-district game looms on September 21 when the Panthers welcome Kirbyville. Liberty opens 22-3A play on October 12 with a tough road game at Coldspring. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Liberty Panthers…… Aug. 31 @ Bridge City Sept. 7 Hamshire-Fannett Sept. 14 @ Stafford Sept. 21 Kirbyville Sept. 28 Diboll Oct. 5 OPEN Oct. 12 @ Coldspring* Oct. 19 Cleveland* Oct. 26 @ Splendora* Nov. 2 @ Tarkington* Nov. 9 Shepherd*
  4. Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears The LC-M Bears have shown steady improvement under the guidance of head coach Todd Moody over the last 2 years. The Bears were 3 points away from the playoffs last year, falling 15-12 to Nederland. Many are looking for 2007 to be the year for LC-M to get over the hump and get into the postseason once again. Key Wins Last Year: PN-G (42-0) Ozen (33-0) Last Year’s Scores: Conroe Caney Creek 21 LC-M 12 WO-S 35 LC-M 14 LC-M 47 Houston Kashmere 0 Central 27 LC-M 14 LC-M 42 PN-G 0 LC-M 33 Ozen 0 Dayton 35 LC-M 0 Nederland 15 LC-M 12 LC-M 20 Lumberton 7 LC-M 20 Vidor 10 Offensive Summary LC-M lost Marvelous Driver (Kilgore) to graduation, but both the QB and RB return for the Bears in 2007 as President Driver and Kendrix Salter return off a unit that averaged 21 points per game in ‘06. They were huge assets to the Bear offense last year as Driver completed 45 passes for 809 yards and 10 touchdowns and Salter rushed for 724 yards and 9 touchdowns. Both should be major contributors again this season. Other Offensive Impact Players: Phillip Richard (WR) Defensive Summary 4 starters are back on defense for the Bears in 2007. Last year the Bear defense was stingy, allowing just 14 points per game. The main defensive weapon back for LC-M is LB Joseph Viator. He is the Bear’s top defensive return as he had 97 tackles in ’06. Look for the Battlin’ Bear defense to once again keep them in each game in 2007. Other Defensive Impact Players: Jared Winbush The Battlin’ Bears have the best schedule in all of Southeast Texas in that they only have three away games all year. All three of the Bear’s non-district games will be played at Battlin’ Bear Stadium against Caney Creek, WO-S and Houston Kashmere. Two key games for the Bears will be the two road games against the Mid-County teams, PN-G and Nederland. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the LC-M Bears…… Aug. 31 Conroe Caney Creek Sept. 7 WO-S Sept. 14 Houston Kashmere Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 Central* Oct. 5 @ PN-G* Oct. 12 Ozen* Oct. 19 Dayton* Oct. 26 @ Nederland* Nov. 2 Lumberton* Nov. 9 @ Vidor*
  5. Stringer has told me that after his 2 years are up at Juco that Ole Miss wants him...If he doesnt go pro after Juco he will go there
  6. Bridge City Cardinals The Bridge City Cardinals were hit very heavily by graduation and they only return 4 starters on the entire team from last year. Coach Claude Tarver left after last season’s 6-4 finish and the ‘Cards brought in former West Brook assistant Chris Stump. Bridge City also lost one of the best overall athletes to ever come through cardinal country in Johnny Dishon. Many feel that the Cardinals will struggle this season because of the few number of returners and the new offense coach Stump will be putting in. Key Wins Last Year: Hardin-Jefferson (21-20) Orangefield (28-18) Last Year’s Scores: Bridge City 24 Liberty 20 Lumberton 28 Bridge City 24 Bridge City 16 Kelly 7 Bridge City 21 Hardin-Jefferson 20 Silsbee 28 Bridge City 10 Bridge City 22 Jasper 14 Bridge City 28 Orangefield 18 Kirbyville 27 Bridge City 12 Bridge City 27 Hamshire-Fannett 7 WO-S 42 Bridge City 6 Offensive Summary The Cardinals return just 2 starters on offense for 2007. Last year Bridge City averaged 19 points per game. Coach Stump brings in the spread offense and will be looking to light up the scoreboard this year. Junior Dustin Breaux will take over the QB duties after the departure of Dishon and will face the pressure of having big shoes to fill as well as learning a new offensive system. Patrick Carlton is back for his senior season and will be a leader on the offensive line. Also look for Troy Luce and Luke Rhodes to have productive seasons at the WR position. Other Offensive Impact Players: Joe Robertson (RB) Defensive Summary The Cardinal defense also returns just 2 starters from a unit that allowed 21 points per game in 2006. Garrett McNeil is back for his senior season at his DT position. The Bridge City linebackers should be solid led by Kris Wediken and Michael Kosh. Bridge City will have to rely on its defense to keep them in games early in the season until the offense comes around. Other Defensive Impact Players: Michael Seal (LB) The Cardinals open their 2007 season with the Liberty Panthers at home in week 0. They travel to Lumberton on September 14 before hosting Kelly on September 21 to close non-district play. Big Red opens 21-3A play on September 28 at Hardin-Jefferson. Bayou Bowl VIII will take place on October 19 when rival Orangefield comes to town. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Bridge City Cardinals…… Aug. 31 Liberty Sept. 7 OPEN Sept. 14 @ Lumberton Sept. 21 Kelly Sept. 28 @ Hardin-Jefferson* Oct. 5 Silsbee* Oct. 12 @ Jasper* Oct. 19 Orangefield* Oct. 26 @ Kirbyville* Nov. 2 @ Hamshire-Fannett* Nov. 9 WO-S*
  7. Barbers Hill Eagles The Barbers Hill Eagles had a successful first year in class 4A last year to say the least. They went 10-0 during the regular season and captured their first district championship in 4A. They went on to lose to Beaumont Central 31-28 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs to finish the year 10-1. The Eagles only return 5 total starters for 2007 and that could prove to make it very tough to claim their 2nd straight 21-4A district title. Key Wins Last Year: Crosby (10-0) Galena Park (28-22) Last Year’s Scores: Barbers Hill 23 Wharton 6 Barbers Hill 26 Jasper 7 Barbers Hill 24 Bellville 13 Barbers Hill 35 Forest Brook 13 Barbers Hill 42 New Caney 14 Barbers Hill 49 Houston Smiley 14 Barbers Hill 45 Huffman 13 Barbers Hill 27 C.E. King 15 Barbers Hill 28 Galena Park 22 Central 31 Barbers Hill 28 Offensive Summary Coach Don Price must fill a lot of spots on his team this year including the offense. Only 2 starters are back from the 2006 team. Last year the Eagle offense put up 30 points per game. Tony Carmona will take over the QB duties this year and may also see some time at DB. The Barbers Hill offensive line should be very good with Matt Peterson, Jake Ponders and Chad Taylor leading the way. Also look for Micah Jones to have a big year on the offensive line as well. Other Offensive Impact Players: Andrew Little (RB) Defensive Summary Like the offense, many spots are open on the defensive side of the ball as well. Just 3 starters return on that side but the main defensive star is back. All-District LB Joe Sexton returns after having an outstanding 2006 season for the Eagles. Last year Sexton had 170 tackles along with 3 interceptions and 1 touchdown. He will probably see some time on offense as well after having 117 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns last season. Nick Mercantel is also expected to perform well from his LB position. The Eagle secondary will be led by DB Dustin Losier and DB Derek Ely. Last year the defense gave up just 13 points per game and they look like they should be able to perform well in 2007. Other Defensive Impact Players: Chris Bradshaw (DB) Justin Lindley (DE) Barbers Hill opens their 2007 season with a Saturday game against Wharton at Pearland. The Eagles have their home opener on September 7 when they host the Jasper Bulldogs. They will close non-district play at Bellville. Barbers Hill will open 21-4A play on September 28 at Forest Brook. The rivalry game with Huffman takes place on October 26 at Huffman. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Barbers Hill Eagles…… Sept. 1 Wharton at Pearland (Saturday) Sept. 7 Jasper Sept. 14 @ Bellville Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 @ Houston Forest Brook* Oct. 5 Crosby* Oct. 12 @ New Caney* Oct. 19 Houston Smiley* Oct. 26 @ Huffman* Nov. 2 @ C.E. King* Nov. 9 Galena Park*
  8. Huffman Falcons Huffman didn’t have the year they had hoped for last season in class 4A. The Falcons went 3-7 and just 1-6 in district 21-4A play. Huffman has a solid group of returners that will hope to make an impact in 4A this year. Key Wins Last Year: Santa Fe (26-21) Forest Brook (27-25) Last Year’s Scores: Huffman 40 Houston Scarborough 7 Houston Wheatley 18 Huffman 14 Huffman 26 Santa Fe 21 New Caney 49 Huffman 28 Galena Park 49 Huffman 7 Houston Smiley 10 Huffman 7 Huffman 27 Forest Brook 25 Barbers Hill 45 Huffman 13 Crosby 36 Huffman 0 C.E. King 28 Huffman 25 Offensive Summary Huffman returns 4 starters from an offense that averaged 23 points per game last year. Look for RB Tyler Pate to get plenty of carried this season for the Falcons. The offensive lineman will be led by Justin Jones and Kyle Hobizal. We also expect TE Jesse Nash to have a productive 2007 season. If the Falcon offense can put points on the board this year we expect them to have a chance in every game. Other Offensive Impact Players: Kyle Meadows (WR) Raymond Henderson (WR) Defensive Summary The Falcons welcome back 7 starters from a defensive unit that gave up 29 points per game in 2006. The Huffman defense should be very tough this year, led by the linebacking crew of OLB Ryan Latour, OLB Steven Morales and MLB Aaron Chandler. Huffman’s secondary will be very solid in 2007. FS Jeffry Schmidt and DB Brad Ballard will be the leaders. The Falcon defense should be able to keep them in the game throughout the 2007 season. Other Defensive Impact Players: Josh Gallegos (DL) Adrian Falcon (DL) Huffman opens the 2007 season with a road game at Houston Scarborough in week 0. The following week they take on Wheatley at Dyer Stadium. The Falcons open 21-4A play on September 28 at New Caney. Huffman doesn’t have their home opener until halfway through the season on October 5 against Galena Park. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Huffman Falcons…… Aug. 31 @ Houston Scarborough Sept. 7 Houston Wheatley at Dyer Stadium Sept. 14 @ Santa Fe Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 @ New Caney* Oct. 5 Galena Park* Oct. 12 Houston Smiley* Oct. 19 @ Houston Forest Brook* Oct. 26 Barbers Hill* Nov. 2 @ Crosby* Nov. 9 C.E. King*
  9. Nederland Bulldogs All the Nederland Bulldogs know how to do is make the playoffs. Ask anybody in Southeast Texas who had them left for dead after week 5 and a 0-2 district start last year. The ‘Dogs went on to win 4 of their last 5 games including two huge wins over PN-G and LC-M to get the 3rd playoff spot out of 22-4A. Even with just 6 returning starters in 2007 expect them to be in the playoff hunt come November after they proved last year they should never be counted out. Key Wins Last Year: PN-G (31-24) LC-M (15-12) Galena Park (48-7) Last Year’s Scores: La Marque 28 Nederland 21 Nederland 44 Forest Brook 6 Waller 41 Nederland 38 Vidor 28 Nederland 24 Central 63 Nederland 24 Nederland 31 PN-G 24 Nederland 35 Ozen 16 Nederland 15 LC-M 12 Dayton 35 Nederland 7 Nederland 51 Lumberton 25 Nederland 48 Galena Park 7 Lamar Consolidated 49 Nederland 22 Offensive Summary The Bulldog offense may struggle early on this season with only 2 starters back. A huge loss on offense was RB Micah Mosley (North Texas) who accounted for most of Nederland’s 30 points per game in ‘06. Chris Gutierrez looks to be the starter at RB in 2007 after rushing for 565 yards and 7 touchdowns as Mosley’s backup last year. University of Texas commit 2-way player Dravannti Johnson is also back at his TE spot. The Nederland offensive line should be solid lead by Stefan Huber and Michael Benefield. Other Offensive Impact Players: Ryan Sampere (QB) Adam Broussard (WR) Defensive Summary Coach Neumann welcomes back 4 defensive starters off a unit that allowed 28 points per game in 2006. The Nederland secondary will be lead by Reagan Stanley. Stanley hauled in 4 interceptions in ’06 and looks to build on those numbers for 2007. We mentioned Dravannti Johnson earlier on offense but his biggest contribution will likely come on the defensive side of the ball. Last year he had 88 tackles and 7 sacks. Also look for LB Jordan Landry to have a big year. Other Defensive Impact Players: Grant Lovelady (LB) Wareall Grogan (LB) Nederland opens up the 2007 season with a headliner game against Brenham as a part of the double-header at Reliant Stadium along with PN-G/La Marque. The ‘Dogs then travel to Forest Brook before having the home opener against Waller. Nederland will have the 22-4A opener circled on the schedule because that’s when Vidor comes to town. The Pirates shocked Nederland last year at Pirate Stadium. We at SETXsports are looking forward to the annual Mid-County Madness game on October 12 when PN-G visits Nederland. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Nederland Bulldogs…… Aug. 31 Brenham at Reliant Stadium Sept. 7 @ Forest Brook Sept. 14 Waller Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 Vidor* Oct. 5 @ Central* Oct. 12 PN-G* Oct. 19 @ Ozen* Oct. 26 LC-M* Nov. 2 Dayton* Nov. 9 @ Lumberton*
  10. Deweyville Pirates Coach Dwight Bickham definitely has the Deweyville program turned around. The Pirates are now very competitive in the 2A ranks and are expected to make the playoffs once again in 2007. The Pirates welcome back a total of 14 starters in 2007 and should make a run at the 24-2A championship. Key Wins Last Year: Warren (29-26) Anahuac (26-14) Last Year’s Scores: Deweyville 76 Cathedral 0 Deweyville 35 Evadale 0 Deweyville 56 High Island 18 Deweyville 59 Burkeville 8 Deweyville 57 Hardin 14 East Chambers 60 Deweyville 44 Deweyville 29 Warren 26 Deweyville 26 Anahuac 14 Buna 19 Deweyville 6 Deweyville 31 Kountze 7 Corrigan-Camden 42 Deweyville 14 Offensive Summary 9 starters are back on offense for Deweyville this season. Last year the Pirate offense poured out an average of 40 points per game. The Pirates lost RB Justin Williams to graduation but Stephen Gibson brings experience to the backfield this year. In 2006 Gibson rushed for 458 yards and 8 touchdowns as a backup and should put up some good numbers this year. QB Brandon Powell returns after passing for 726 yards and 8 touchdowns last season. Also look for Deweyville to have a good offensive line led by all-district returner Dalton Estes. Other Offensive Impact Players: Dustin Delgadillo (OL) Defensive Summary The Pirates have 5 starters back from a defensive unit that gave up 19 points per game in 2006. Deweyville will be a little young on defense and if they come around early should prove to be tough. Expect big things from DE Jimmy Folsom this season as well as LB Cruzz Thrailkille. Also DE Matt Manning should be a force for Deweyville in 2007. Other Defensive Impact Players: Hunter Manning (DL) Deweyville will open their 2007 season with a very tough test as they host Vinton, LA in week 0. The Pirates are home for two more straight games in week 1 against Evadale and week 2 against High Island. They close out non-district play on September 21 at Burkeville. The Pirates have two very important district contests with district favorite East Chambers coming to town on October 5 and on November 2 they take a trip to Buna. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Deweyville Pirates…… Aug. 31 Vinton, LA Sept. 7 Evadale Sept. 14 High Island Sept. 21 @ Burkeville Sept. 28 @ Hardin* Oct. 5 East Chambers* Oct. 12 OPEN Oct. 19 @ Warren* Oct. 26 Anahuac* Nov. 2 @ Buna* Nov. 9 Kountze*
  11. Kelly Bulldogs Coach Mike Long and his Kelly Bulldogs will be looking to make a huge impact this season in the private school ranks. Simply put, the Bulldogs are loaded for 2007 and should make a deep run in the TAPPS playoffs. Last year Kelly finished 6-5 and lost to Dallas Bishop Lynch in the first round of the playoffs 42-14. Key Wins Last Year: Houston Furr (23-6) St. Thomas (24-15) Last Year’s Scores: Houston Kincaid 21 Kelly 20 Kelly 28 Hitchcock 0 Kelly 23 Houston Furr 6 Bridge City 16 Kelly 7 Kelly 30 San Augustine 18 Crawford 34 Kelly 14 St. Pius 35 Kelly 13 Kelly 27 St. Michael’s 13 Kelly 24 St. Thomas 15 St. Pius 33 Kelly 9 Dallas Bishop Lynch 42 Kelly 14 Offensive Summary No doubt the offense will be the strong point of the 2007 Kelly Bulldogs. Kelly returns 10 offensive starters off of last year’s team. Last year Kelly averaged 19 points per game and should improve on that number in ’07. The Bulldog offense will be led by all-star QB Anthony Fazio. Fazio put up great numbers as a junior last year as he passed for 1,125 yards and 10 touchdowns. We expect him to have another huge year this season. Also back on offense is RB Donnie Carona. Carona rushed for 425 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2006. Also look for WR Torreyjon Henry to have a big season after he had 420 receiving and 8 touchdowns last year. Other Offensive Impact Players: Doug Prewitt (WR) Taylor Carmona (OL) Defensive Summary Kelly welcomes 5 starters back from a defense that allowed 21 points per game in 2006. The leader of the defense will be DT Kheeston Randall. Randall finished the 2006 season with 33 tackles. We look for DE Dorian Guillory to have a big year on defense as well. Kelly should have a solid defense this season that will be very tough to score on. Kelly opens the 2007 season at home on August 31 against Houston Kincaid. They follow that up with a September 7 home game with Hitchcock. Then the Bulldogs hit the road for 3 straight games at Houston Furr, at Bridge City and at San Augustine. Kelly has dropped Crawford from the 2007 schedule and added 5A Louisiana power Sulphur. That game will take place on October 12 at Bulldog Stadium. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Kelly Bulldogs…… Aug. 31 Houston Kincaid Sept. 7 Hitchcock Sept. 15 @ Houston Furr (Saturday) Sept. 21 @ Bridge City Sept. 28 @ San Augustine Oct. 5 OPEN Oct. 12 Sulphur (LA) Oct. 19 OPEN Oct. 26 St. Michael* Nov. 2 St. Thomas* Nov. 9 @ St. Pius*
  12. Vidor Pirates All was well in Pirate Country last year after Vidor knocked off Nederland 28-24 and hoped to start their push to the playoffs. However, 2006 would not be their year as they went on to lose 5 of their last 6 games and finish a disappointing 3-7. Coach Jeff Mathews has a solid 12 starters back for 2007 and hopes that this will be the year the Pirates are seen in the postseason again. Key Wins Last Year: Nederland (28-24) Last Year’s Scores: St. Pius 27 Vidor 7 Vidor 43 Houston Jones 0 Livingston 38 Vidor 30 Vidor 28 Nederland 24 Lumberton 35 Vidor 29 Dayton 42 Vidor 7 Central 38 Vidor 34 PN-G 14 Vidor 7 Vidor 28 Ozen 27 LC-M 20 Vidor 10 Offensive Summary A huge offensive loss for Vidor was TB Brad Croak, but the Pirates have 5 starters back for an offense that put up 22 points per game in 2006. QB Roman Franklin returns after putting up solid numbers last season. Franklin had 98 completions for 828 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2006. TB/DB Brett Harris and TB Bo Pillsbury could end up splitting time in the backfield. Harris rushed for 503 yards and 3 touchdowns last year while Pillsbury rushed for 203 yards and 4 touchdowns. Other Offensive Impact Players: Cameron Perkins (WR) Theron Reynolds (FB) Defensive Summary The Pirate defense should be solid in’07 with the help of 7 returning starters. Last year the defense gave up 27 points per game. The defensive leader for Vidor is the above mentioned Brett Harris who had 5 interceptions at his DB position and was selected first-team all district DB. The linebackers will be solid with James Laramore and Jordan Dowers leading the way. The defensive front is led by NG Chase Ferguson, DT Tim Dycus and DT Blake Whitaker. Other Defensive Impact Players: Chris Teinert (LB) Derek Worthy (S) Vidor won’t open their season until September 7 when they face the St. Pius Panthers out of the private school ranks at Pirate Stadium. Then they will travel to Houston to face the Jones Falcons before closing out non-district with a home date with the Livingston Lions. The Pirates open district play on September 28 at Nederland. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Vidor Pirates…… Aug. 31 OPEN Sept. 7 St. Pius Sept. 14 @ Houston Jones Sept. 21 Livingston Sept. 28 @ Nederland* Oct. 5 Lumberton* Oct. 12 @ Dayton* Oct. 19 @ Central* Oct. 26 PN-G* Nov. 2 @ Ozen* Nov. 9 LC-M*
  13. Jasper Bulldogs Thomas Brooks is back. That is the biggest step Jasper could have taken to get their program turned around. 2006 was a tough year for the Bulldogs and their fans as they finished 2-8 and 6th in 21-3A, unacceptable by normal Jasper standards. So in the offseason the Bulldogs brought back former coach Thomas Brooks from 5A Tyler John Tyler. Coach Brooks already has more kids back into the program and working hard to get Jasper back to the top of the football world. Key Wins Last Year: Hamshire-Fannett (12-7) Hardin-Jefferson (26-25) Last Year’s Scores: Livingston 27 Jasper 14 Barbers Hill 26 Jasper 7 Newton 21 Jasper 7 Kirbyville 28 Jasper 21 Orangefield 33 Jasper 7 Bridge City 22 Jasper 14 Jasper 12 Hamshire-Fannett 7 WO-S 40 Jasper 0 Jasper 26 Hardin-Jefferson 25 Silsbee 35 Jasper 0 Offensive Summary 7 starters are back for a Jasper offense that averaged just 11 points per game in 2006. The offense will be led by the likes of RB Brandon McQueen and RB AJ Bronson. The offensive line will be good, led by Michael Crowell and Christian Goff. Look for WR William Brooks to make an impact on offense in 2007. With Coach Brooks back we expect Jasper to once again be able to put points on the scoreboard. Other Offensive Impact Players: Malcom Bronson (WR) Defensive Summary The Bulldogs also welcome back 7 starters on defense from a unit that allowed 26 points per game in 2006. Cliff Mitchell will look to make an impact from his DE position. Donte Rollins will also be counted on from the DE spot. Rollins may also see some time at RB as well this season. Other Defensive Impact Players: Trae Horn (DL) Jasper begins a much anticipated 2007 season at home on August 31 against class 4A Livingston. They then have two very tough road games at Barbers Hill on September 7 and at rival Newton on September 14. The Bulldogs open 21-3A play on September 28 at home against the Kirbyville Wildcats. They will host WO-S on October 26 and Silsbee on November 9. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Jasper Bulldogs…… Aug. 31 Livingston Sept. 7 @ Barbers Hill Sept. 14 @ Newton Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 Kirbyville* Oct. 5 @ Orangefield* Oct. 12 Bridge City* Oct. 19 @ Hamshire-Fannett* Oct. 26 WO-S* Nov. 2 @ Hardin-Jefferson* Nov. 9 Silsbee*
  14. Woodville Eagles Coach Steve Fentress takes over a Woodville program that went 4-6 overall and 1-4 in 23-2A play last season. However, the Eagles appear to be set up nicely to make a run at the playoffs in 2007. A total of 17 starters return for Woodville, more than any other team in the district, and that experience should pay big dividends this season. Key Wins Last Year: Splendora (20-7) Shepherd (40-14) Last Year’s Scores: Coldspring 29 Woodville 20 Woodville 20 Splendora 7 Woodville 24 Warren 18 Woodville 40 Shepherd 14 Tarkington 40 Woodville 18 Woodville 21 Shelbyville 6 San Augustine 18 Woodville 13 Corrigan-Camden 28 Woodville 14 Newton 49 Woodville 34 Hemphill 18 Woodville 0 Offensive Summary Woodville brings back 9 starters from last year’s offensive unit that averaged 20 points per game. QB Steven Williams is back after having a respectable season last year. In 2006 Williams passed for 663 yards and 9 touchdowns. RB Paul Price is the top returning rusher for Woodville as he had 442 yards and 5 touchdowns a year ago. All-District OG Landra Lee returns for his senior season and will be the leader on the line. Other Offensive Impact Players: Adrian Williams (WR) Defensive Summary 8 starters return for the Eagle defense in 2007. Last season Woodville’s defense gave up 23 points per game. Lots of experience is back on defense and that includes DB Adam Rigsby. Look for Woodville to have a tough defensive line led by DE Cory Knight. The Eagles will also have a very good set of linebackers led by Eric Davis. Taylor Thompson is also expected to have a good 2007 season at the LB position for the Eagles. Woodville opens the 2007 season with a tough Week 0 matchup with Coldspring. The following week they travel to defending 22-3A champion Splendora. The Eagles have their home opener on September 21 against Shepherd. The district 23-2A opener is on October 12 at home against Shelbyville. Look for the November 2 matchup with Newton to be a great one. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Woodville Eagles…… Aug. 31 @ Coldspring Sept. 7 @ Splendora Sept. 14 @ Warren Sept. 21 Shepherd Sept. 28 @ Tarkington Oct. 5 OPEN Oct. 12 Shelbyville* Oct. 19 San Augustine* Oct. 26 @ Corrigan-Camden* Nov. 2 Newton* Nov. 9 @ Hemphill*
  15. Ozen Panthers A new coach and a new attitude may be just what the doctor ordered for the Ozen Panthers. After going a disappointing 1-9 last year Ozen can only get better. Ozen hired former Central offensive coordinator Ishan Rison to lead a Panther program that suffered through its worst season in school history in 2006. Key Wins Last Year: Lumberton (26-16) Last Year’s Scores: West Brook 35 Ozen 14 PA Memorial 31 Ozen 27 Seguin 32 Ozen 7 PN-G 31 Ozen 15 Dayton 48 Ozen 6 LC-M 33 Ozen 0 Nederland 35 Ozen 16 Ozen 26 Lumberton 16 Vidor 28 Ozen 27 Central 49 Ozen 20 Offensive Summary Ozen returns 4 starters off last year’s unit that averaged 16 points per game. Expect QB Chris Ragget to take over for the departed London Durham (McNeese State). The success of the offense in 2007 could rely heavily on how well the offensive line performs. The offensive front will be led by Patrick May and Devon Stelly. Also watch for WR Cameron Ball to make an impact on offense. Defensive Summary Over half the defense returns for 2007 as 6 starters are back on that side of the ball. Last season the Ozen defense allowed 34 points per game. If the Panthers hope to make an impact this year they will need for the defense to improve that number significantly. Key players back that will hope to change that include DE Jimmie Johnson, LB Justin Isadore and DB Brean Johnson. Also look for big things out of the defensive line led by Steven Lee and Ben Taylor. Other Defensive Impact Players: Matthew Burgin (LB) The Ozen Panthers play one of the toughest non-district schedules in the area. They open with back to back games against our local 5A teams West Brook and Memorial. They close non-district with Seguin at Clear Lake. The Panthers open 22-4A play on September 28 at home against PN-G. 16. Silsbee Tigers There is no question that the Silsbee Tigers have been one of the most successful 3A teams in the area since they dropped from 4A a few years ago. The problem for Silsbee hasn’t been getting to the playoffs; it’s what they’ve done when they got there. Silsbee has posted a 1-3 record in postseason play the last 3 years with their lone win coming last year in the Bi-District round over Splendora 27-25. Coach Bobby McGallion enters his 9th season as the head man in Silsbee and is looking to make a deeper run in 2007. Key Wins Last Year: Newton (27-23) Kirbyville (42-32) Splendora (27-25) Last Year’s Scores: Silsbee 54 Houston Sterling 32 PN-G 27 Silsbee 9 Silsbee 27 Newton 23 Silsbee 35 Orangefield 27 Silsbee 28 Bridge City 10 Silsbee 13 Hamshire-Fannett 7 WO-S 20 Silsbee 13 Silsbee 28 Hardin-Jefferson 3 Silsbee 42 Kirbyville 32 Silsbee 35 Jasper 0 Silsbee 27 Splendora 25 West Columbia 44 Silsbee 41 Offensive Summary Silsbee brings back 4 starters from an offense that put up 29 points per game in 2006. First Team All-District WR Donovan Harris is back after having a successful season in 2006. Sophomore Jeremy Johnson looks to be the front runner to take over the QB duties for the Tigers. OL Daniel Paulus is another All-District first teamer back for 2007. We are looking for Chris Castle to have a good year at the RB position as well as WR Brooks Allen. Other Offensive Impact Players: Mikel Willis (WR) Defensive Summary The Tiger defense welcomes back 5 starters from a unit that allowed 21 points per game last season. The Silsbee defensive line will be good with DT Jesse Coleman, DT Emery Manning and DE Ryan Hargrave leading the way. Silsbee should be able to get penetration into opposing teams’ backfields this year. Josh James will be a leader in the secondary from his DB position. Other Defensive Impact Players: Brandon Watts (LB) Josh Skinner (DE) Silsbee has one of the toughest non-district schedules in all of Southeast Texas. They open the 2007 season with a week 1 matchup with Houston Sterling. Week 2 will see Silsbee play host to the 4A PN-G Indians. The Tigers close non-district play with a trip to one of the toughest places to play in the entire area, Newton’s Singletary Stadium. Silsbee opens 21-3A play at home against Orangefield on September 28. Other huge games in district include a trip to WO-S on October 19 and a home date with Kirbyville on November 9. Fans throughout Southeast Texas will be tuned in to SETXsports in week 10 when one of the biggest rivalry games in the area takes place as Silsbee travels to the “Boneyard†to face Jasper. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Silsbee Tigers…… Aug. 31 OPEN Sept. 7 Houston Sterling Sept. 14 PN-G Sept. 21 @ Newton Sept. 28 Orangefield* Oct. 5 @ Bridge City* Oct. 12 Hamshire-Fannett* Oct. 19 @ WO-S* Oct. 26 Hardin-Jefferson* Nov. 2 Kirbyville* Nov. 9 @ Jasper*
  17. High Island Cardinals The High Island Cardinals have nowhere to go but up. They finished last season a dreadful 1-8 and were shut out 7 times. They now have a new head coach and 20, that’s right, 20 returning starters that will try to fight their way out of the 24-1A cellar. Key Wins Last Year: Chester (47-0) Last Year’s Scores: Kountze 42 High Island 0 Baytown Christian 35 High Island 0 Deweyville 56 High Island 18 High Island 47 Chester 0 Colmesneil 51 High Island 0 Hull-Daisetta 51 High Island 0 Evadale 55 High Island 0 Sabine Pass 41 High Island 0 Offensive Summary High Island welcomes back 10 starters on offense for the 2007 season. To say that the Cardinals struggled on offense last year would be an understatement. Sure they hung 47 points on Chester but 7 of their 8 losses were shutouts. They averaged just 8 points per game last season. QB Tiner George returns after he passed for 400 yards and rushed for 450 yards. RB T.J. Kahla is also back after rushing for 490 yards and 3 touchdowns. Other Offensive Impact Players: Steven Landrum (WR) Defensive Summary The Cardinals also welcome 10 starters back on defense. Last season High Island gave up 41 points per game and will try to improve that number this season. The defensive leader will be LB Trey Hall. The defensive line will be led by DL Robert Walker and DE Donald Hooks. Look for High Island to be much improved on defense. High Island will open the 2007 season at home against Galveston O’Connell. They then have 2 straight road games at Baytown Christian and 2A Deweyville. The Cardinals will open 24-1A play on October 12 at home against Hull-Daisetta. The Cards will have November 2 circled on their schedule as they will host rival Sabine Pass. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the High Island Cardinals…… Aug. 31 Galveston O'Connell Sept. 7 @ Baytown Christian Sept. 14 @ Deweyville Sept. 21 Hardin Sept. 28 @ Chester Oct. 5 Colmesneil Oct. 12 Hull-Daisetta* Oct. 19 OPEN Oct. 26 @ Evadale* Nov. 2 Sabine Pass* Nov. 9 @ West Hardin*
  18. Dayton Broncos Dayton enters their 2nd season in 22-4A and after the season they had in 2006 they are predicted to win the district championship for the 2nd straight year in 2007. Dayton stormed through 22-4A play last season undefeated and emerged as the district champions. Coach Jerry Stewart and his 11 returning starters will make it tough for anyone to take the title from them and they may very well run the 22-4A table again. Key Wins Last Year: Central (21-20) Nederland (35-7) Crosby (35-0) Last Year’s Scores: WO-S 26 Dayton 9 Dayton 14 Nacogdoches 0 Friendswood 17 Dayton 16 Dayton 55 Lumberton 7 Dayton 48 Ozen 6 Dayton 42 Vidor 7 Dayton 35 LC-M 0 Dayton 21 Central 20 Dayton 35 Nederland 7 Dayton 33 PN-G 2 Dayton 35 Crosby 0 Texas City 35 Dayton 21 Offensive Summary The 2006 Dayton Broncos had a very potent offense and 7 starters return from that unit that averaged 30 points per game. The Broncos lose one of the best RB in all of Southeast Texas in Michael Dugat (West Texas A&M) but there will still be a Dugat in the Bronco backfield in 2007, Michael’s brother AJ Dugat. Look for the Dayton rushing game to not miss a beat in 2007. However, the most important player back has to be QB Cody Green. Green did it all last year, from passing for 1,589 yards and 20 touchdowns to rushing for 689 yards and 4 touchdowns. His performance last year earned him the 22-4A newcomer of the year award. Other Offensive Impact Players: Paul Fontenot (WR) Defensive Summary Coach Stewart welcomes back 4 starters from a defense that gave up 10 points per game in 2006. Dayton had one of the best defenses in all of Southeast Texas last year. FS Ford Smesny is the leading tackler back after having 83 tackles last season. Look for NG Brent Kimmy and LB John Gable to have big seasons as well. Other Defensive Impact Players: Fred Hynson (LB) The SETXsports week 0 game of the week may very well be the contest in West Orange when the Broncos face the Mustangs. Dayton opens 22-4A play on September 28 when they travel to Lumberton to face the Raiders. Many expect the district title to be on the line on October 26 when Central travels to Dayton in what should be a great contest. Other key games include the trip to Nederland and the regular season finale against PN-G. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Dayton Broncos…… Aug. 31 @ WO-S Sept. 7 @ Nacogdoches Sept. 14 Friendswood Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 @ Lumberton* Oct. 5 Ozen* Oct. 12 Vidor* Oct. 19 @ LC-M* Oct. 26 Central* Nov. 2 @ Nederland* Nov. 9 PN-G*
  19. Port Neches-Groves Indians Last season PN-G finished 5-5 overall and 3-4 in 22-4A play and found themselves on the outside looking in as far as the playoff picture goes. That’s something the Indian faithful isn’t used to. Coach Matt Burnett and 10 returning starters will hope to turn that around in 2007. Key Wins Last Year: Silsbee (27-9) Vidor (14-7) Last Year’s Scores: Brenham 33 PN-G 9 PN-G 21 Crosby 14 PN-G 27 Silsbee 9 PN-G 31 Ozen 15 LC-M 42 PN-G 0 Nederland 31 PN-G 24 PN-G 36 Lumberton 23 PN-G 14 Vidor 7 Central 33 PN-G 7 Dayton 33 PN-G 2 Offensive Summary Only 3 starters return for an Indian offense that averaged 17 points per game in 2006. PN-G does have their QB back in junior Harrison Tatum. As a sophomore Tatum had 44 completions for 612 yards and 6 touchdowns. Expect him to be even more productive this year. Another important offensive weapon returning is FB Jake Hemmings. In ’06 Hemmings rushed for 946 yards and 4 touchdowns. If the offense comes around early PN-G could put up some big numbers in 2007. Other Offensive Impact Players: Matt Johnson (WR) Defensive Summary The strong point of the ’07 PN-G Indians should be the defense. Coach Burnett has 7 starters back from last year’s unit that allowed 24 points per game. The Indian defensive front should be tough with DT Jody McDonald and DE Clint Burnett who had 4 sacks last season. Kenneth Tezeno is also back to man his CB position after having 5 interceptions last year. If PN-G’s defense can step up the Indians should be in the hunt for the playoffs in 2007. Other Defensive Impact Players: Kaleb Walker (LB) Brett Doty (FS) PN-G will be part of the double-header at Reliant Stadium to open the 2007 season as they take on the defending 4A Division 2 champions from La Marque. They have their home opener on September 7 against the Crosby Cougars before a huge non-district affair at Silsbee. The Indians open 22-4A play on September 28 when they travel to Lamar’s Cardinal Stadium to face the Ozen Panthers. The toughest part of the schedule may be the final two games vs Central and at defending 22-4A champion Dayton. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the PN-G Indians…… Aug. 31 La Marque at Reliant Stadium Sept. 7 Crosby Sept. 14 @ Silsbee Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 @ Ozen* Oct. 5 LC-M* Oct. 12 @ Nederland* Oct. 19 Lumberton* Oct. 26 @ Vidor* Nov. 2 Central* Nov. 9 @ Dayton*
  20. Evadale Rebels Last season the Evadale Rebels made the playoffs as the 3rd place team in district 24-1A. This year they hope to challenge West Hardin and Hull-Daisetta for the district championship. Coach Mark Williams has 12 starters back that will help to continue Evadale’s climb to the top. Key Wins Last Year: High Island (55-0) Sabine Pass (49-0) Last Year’s Scores: Colmesneil 14 Evadale 13 Deweyville 35 Evadale 0 Kountze 13 Evadale 7 Evadale 20 Cypress Community 13 Price Carlisle 28 Evadale 0 Evadale 61 Chester 22 West Hardin 25 Evadale 0 Hull-Daisetta 32 Evadale 14 Evadale 55 High Island 0 Evadale 49 Sabine Pass 0 Lovelady 52 Evadale 7 Offensive Summary The Rebels return 6 starters on offense in 2007. Last season Evadale averaged 21 points per game. QB Micah Stringen will be the offensive leader for the Rebels. All-District RB Justin Crain is back for the Rebels and looks primed to have another great year in 2007. Look for Evadale to have a very good OL led be Clint Richardson, Wade Williams, Chance Bunnett and John Jones. The Rebels will also be strong at the WR position with David Drake and Joh Loan leading the way. Other Offensive Impact Players: Wes Massingill (RB) Defensive Summary 6 starters are also back for Evadale on defense. In 2006 Evadale allowed 21 points per game. First Team All-District DT Richard Miller returns for 2007 and should have another big year. The Rebel secondary will be led by the above mentioned Crain at the FS position along with CB Aaron Shows. Evadale will also be strong at the LB position led by Terrance Willis. Other Defensive Impact Players: Garrett Landis (LB) The Rebels open the 2007 season with a tough game at Colmesneil in week 0. The following week presents an even bigger challenge when Evadale travels to Deweyville. Evadale will begin 24-1A play on October 12 at home against defending 24-1A champion West Hardin. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Evadale Rebels…… Aug. 31 @ Colmesneil Sept. 7 @ Deweyville Sept. 14 Kountze Sept. 21 @ Legacy Christian Sept. 28 Price Carlisle Oct. 5 Chester Oct. 12 West Hardin* Oct. 19 @ Hull-Daisetta* Oct. 26 High Island* Nov. 2 OPEN Nov. 9 @ Sabine Pass*
  21. Buna Cougars The Buna Cougars made the drop to class 2A last season and found immediate success. They went 4-2 in 24-2A play and made the playoffs for the first time in years. Their season was ended in the Bi-District round at the hands of Newton 42-7 and they finished the year at 7-4. Coach Bradley Morgan expects that success to carry over to 2007 and hopefully will result in a longer playoff run. Key Wins Last Year: Hull-Daisetta (34-0) Deweyville (19-6) Last Year’s Scores: Orangefield 28 Buna 7 Buna 44 Burkeville 6 Buna 30 Tarkington 12 Buna 34 Hull-Daisetta 0 Anahuac 26 Buna 14 Buna 49 Kountze 0 Buna 41 Hardin 14 East Chambers 35 Buna 13 Buna 19 Deweyville 6 Buna 28 Warren 7 Newton 42 Buna 7 Offensive Summary Buna returns 7 starters from an offense that averaged 26 points per game last season. All-District FB Brian Holmes returns after having a great 2006 season. Holmes rushed for 452 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2006. The Buna offensive line should be good this season led by All-District LT Travis Harding, RT Chris Dotson and LG Cody Holland. Also look for QB Justin Carrell to have a productive year in 2007. Other Offensive Impact Players: Luke Clark (TE) Defensive Summary Last year the Cougars only allowed 16 points per game. They return 5 starters on defense in 2007. All-District OLB Anthony Smith returns to lead the Buna defense after collecting 85 tackles in 2006. DT Dillon Moss will lead a strong Buna defensive line. The key to Buna’s success this year may rest on how the defense plays. Other Defensive Impact Players: Blanton Craft (CB) Buna opens the 2007 season with a road trip at old rival Orangefield in week 0. The Cougars hit the road again in week 1 when they travel to Burkeville to take on the Mustangs. They also have a game with 3A Tarkington and 1A Hull-Daisetta on the non-district schedule. Buna opens 24-2A play on September 28 at home against Anahuac. A game that could weigh heavily on how 24-2A turns out is the matchup in Winnie on October 26 between Buna and district favorite East Chambers.
