  1. Hey Cat22, we know he will make the right choice!!!! ;D 8)
  2. Kirbyville Wildcats If there was ever a season for Kirbyville to win the 21-3A championship this is it. The Wildcats return just about their entire team from last year and most of the key players are back. Coach Jack Alvarez welcomes back 14 starters from last year’s Area Round team. The Wildcats lost to the Sweeny Bulldogs 35-28 to end their season at 8-4 after finishing 3rd in 21-3A. Key Wins Last Year: Orangefield (40-26) Bridge City (27-12) Coldspring (27-12) Last Year’s Scores: Kirbyville 51 Cleveland 12 Carthage 42 Kirbyville 14 Kirbyville 48 Liberty 14 Kirbyville 28 Jasper 21 WO-S 46 Kirbyville 16 Kirbyville 40 Orangefield 26 Kirbyville 44 Hardin-Jefferson 14 Kirbyville 27 Bridge City 12 Silsbee 42 Kirbyville 32 Kirbyville 39 Hamshire-Fannett 7 Kirbyville 27 Coldspring 12 Sweeny 35 Kirbyville 28 Offensive Summary The Wildcats have 7 starters back from their 2006 offensive unit that averaged 33 points per game. QB Aaron Hazelwood is back after having an outstanding 2006 season. Hazelwood completed 70 passes for 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns. That earned him the 21-3A offensive newcomer of the year award. Expect Aaron to have another great year in 2007. Also returning in the backfield is RB Pierce Rhodes. He had a monster 2006 season chewing up opposing defenses as he rushed for 1,526 yards and 23 touchdowns. Rhodes also caught 13 passes for 354 yards and 3 touchdowns. Look for the Kirbyville offense to be very tough to stop in 2007. Other Offensive Impact Players: Randy Muskgrove (WR) Broderick Jackson (RB) Defensive Summary Kirbyville also has 7 starters back on defense. Last season the defense allowed 23 points per game. Not only is Pierce Rhodes a huge threat on offense, he is also a threat on defense. Rhodes had 105 tackles last season for the Wildcats. The secondary for Kirbyville should be very solid led by the above mentioned Broderick Jackson from his FS position along with CB Desmond Evert. Also look for LB Barry Burley and DE Linwood Crawford to have big years. Other Defensive Impact Players: Fred Rhodes (DB) Kirbyville opens their 2007 season with a road trip to Cleveland to face the Indians. The following week is their home opener against 3A power Carthage. The Wildcats open district 21-3A play on September 28 at rival Jasper. Then the game that may decide the district champion will take place at Wildcat Stadium on October 5 when the WO-S Mustangs visit Kirbyville. Another key game is November 2 at Silsbee. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Kirbyville Wildcats…… Aug. 31 @ Cleveland Sept. 7 Carthage Sept. 14 OPEN Sept. 21 @ Liberty Sept. 28 @ Jasper* Oct. 5 WO-S* Oct. 12 Orangefield* Oct. 19 @ Hardin-Jefferson* Oct. 26 Bridge City* Nov. 2 @ Silsbee* Nov. 9 Hamshire-Fannett*
  3. Hardin Hornets Larry Haynes takes over a Hardin program looking to get back on its feet after a few tough seasons. Coach Haynes will definitely have plenty to work with as the Hornets have 17 total starters back for 2007. Hopefully a new winning attitude mixed with a lot of experience will get Hardin back to their winning ways. Key Wins Last Year: Anahuac (13-10) Last Year’s Scores: Tarkington 14 Hardin 6 Groveton 15 Hardin 6 West Hardin 26 Hardin 24 Hardin 57 Cathedral 6 Deweyville 57 Hardin 14 Warren 41 Hardin 23 Hardin 13 Anahuac 10 Buna 41 Hardin 14 Kountze 48 Hardin 28 East Chambers 52 Hardin 0 Offensive Summary 9 starters are back on offense for the 2007 season. Last year Hardin averaged 19 points per game. 2-way star John Stelly returns after rushing for 800 yards last season. Look for Hardin to have a very good offensive line to lead the way for Stelly in 2007. The line will be led by Wade Williams, Dylan Barber, Clayton Warner and Andrew West. Also look for the Hornets to be strong at the WR position with Chase Ringer, Hunter Davis and Cameron Koen. Other Offensive Impact Players: Daniel Marsh (RB) Jordan Nolan (QB) Defensive Summary The Hornets return 8 starters from a defensive unit that gave up 31 points per game last season. That number will have to improve for Hardin to have a chance to compete for a playoff spot. The above mentioned John Stelly was the team leader in tackles from his LB position in 2006 with 103 and that earned him a spot on the All-District team. He will be the leader of a very good linebacking crew along with Garrett Cathriner and Michael Posey. Hardin opens the 2007 season with a week 0 home date with class 3A Tarkington. The following week they travel to 1A power Groveton. The Hornets close out non-district play with games against 24-1A members West Hardin and High Island. Hardin will open 24-2A play on September 28 at home against Deweyville. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Hardin Hornets…… Aug. 31 Tarkington Sept. 7 @ Groveton Sept. 14 West Hardin Sept. 21 @ High Island Sept. 28 Deweyville* Oct. 5 @ Warren* Oct. 12 Anahuac* Oct. 19 @ Buna* Oct. 26 Kountze* Nov. 2 OPEN Nov. 9 @ East Chambers*
  4. Hull-Daisetta Bobcats Hull-Daisetta was expected to challenge West Hardin last year for the 24-1A championship but ended up getting blown out in the district championship game 36-7. The Bobcats would go on to finish the year in the Bi-District round with a 45-34 loss to Groveton. They finished with a 7-4 overall record. Hull-Daisetta welcomes back 16 starters in 2007 and should be ready to challenge again for the district title. Key Wins Last Year: Kountze (22-0) Evadale (32-14) Last Year’s Scores: Hull-Daisetta 58 Westbury Christian 6 Hull-Daisetta 22 Kountze 0 Hull-Daisetta 49 Cathedral 6 Buna 34 Hull-Daisetta 0 Danbury 20 Hull-Daisetta 18 Hull-Daisetta 51 High Island 0 Hull-Daisetta 32 Evadale 14 Hull-Daisetta 49 Sabine Pass 7 West Hardin 36 Hull-Daisetta 7 Hull-Daisetta 28 Galveston O’Connell 8 Groveton 45 Hull-Daisetta 34 Offensive Summary The Bobcats return 8 starters on offense for the 2007 season. Last year the Bobcat offense averaged 32 points per game. The ‘Cats return 24-1A’s offensive MVP from a year ago WR Franklin Smith. Smith finished the 2006 season with 600 yards receiving. TE Tre Dickerson is also a standout player on offense for Hull-Daisetta. The offensive line will be led by OG Matt Dees. Other Offensive Impact Players: Adrian Anderson (QB) Defensive Summary 8 starters are back on defense as well for the Bobcats in 2007. Last season Hull-Daisetta gave up 16 points per game. First Team All-District LB Aaron Cook returns as well as First Team All-District FS Anthony Walker and they will be the defensive leaders. Walker had 3 interceptions in 2006. DB Sam Elliott will join Walker in the Bobcat secondary. Other Defensive Impact Players: Ehren Davis (DB) Hull-Daisetta opens their season with a road game at Westbury Christian. The Bobcats will face their toughest non-district test on September 21 when they travel to Buna to face the Cougars. They will close out non-district play on October 5 at home against Danbury. Hull-Daisetta will open 24-1A play on October 12 at High Island. Look for the district championship to be on the line on November 2 when the Bobcats play host to the West Hardin Oilers. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats…… Aug. 31 @ Westbury Christian Sept. 7 @ Kountze Sept. 14 Legacy Christian Sept. 21 @ Buna Sept. 28 OPEN Oct. 5 Danbury Oct. 12 @ High Island* Oct. 19 Evadale* Oct. 26 @ Sabine Pass* Nov. 2 West Hardin* Nov. 9 @ Galveston O’Connell
  5. Kountze Lions For the Kountze Lions a 4-6 or 5-5 season usually is what’s expected. But since the arrival of coach Stan Hodges a few years ago, a new attitude is brewing up in Lion Country. Last season Kountze got a few quality wins and will look to build on that heading into the 2007 season. Key Wins Last Year: Anahuac (31-6) Hardin (48-28) Last Year’s Scores: Kountze 42 High Island 0 Hull-Daisetta 22 Kountze 0 Kountze 13 Evadale 7 West Hardin 45 Kountze 25 Warren 19 Kountze 3 Kountze 31 Anahuac 6 Buna 49 Kountze 0 Kountze 48 Hardin 28 East Chambers 35 Kountze 14 Deweyville 31 Kountze 7 Offensive Summary Last season Kountze averaged 18 points per game. The QB job in 2007 appears to be coming down to either Neal Batman or Domingo Smith. Back to man his RB position is Dontae Barnes. Last season Barnes rushed for 670 yards and 6 touchdowns. OT Deric Puckitt, OT Tanner Hughes and C Colt Ambrose will be leaders on the offensive line. Look for Kountze to also have a pretty good group of receivers led by Stephen Gerhard. Other Offensive Impact Players: Joe Turner (WR) Defensive Summary Kountze should have a very good defense in 2007. Last year the Lions allowed 24 points per game. They do have a lot of experience back including 3 All-District picks. FS Thomas Walcott had 3 interceptions last season and was a First Team All-District pick and is a 4-year starter for the Lions. Another returner, DE Chad Morrison, was also a First Team pick and had 99 tackles last season. Look for Kountze to have some good linebackers in 2007 including Devon Wise and Josh Haynes. Other Defensive Impact Players: Jared Kemp (DE) Kountze opens the season with a home date in week 0 against 20-1A member Tenaha. Their other 3 non-district games are against 24-1A members Hull-Diasetta, Evadale and West Hardin. Kountze opens 24-2A play on September 28 at home against the Warren Warriors. 6. Newton Eagles Newton Eagles = district champions. It goes hand in hand. The Eagles won another district title last year going a perfect 5-0 in 23-2A play. They finished the season 8-3 overall as they lost to Marlin in the area round of the playoffs. Coach Barbay and his Eagles are favored to win yet another district championship in 2007 with the help of 12 returning starters. Key Wins Last Year: Crockett (28-13) Corrigan-Camden (26-14) Last Year’s Scores: Newton 28 Crockett 13 Newton 21 Jasper 7 Silsbee 27 Newton 23 Carthage 20 Newton 18 Newton 26 Corrigan-Camden 14 Newton 47 Shelbyville 0 Newton 39 Hemphill 5 Newton 49 Woodville 34 Newton 55 San Augustine 26 Newton 42 Buna 7 Marlin 33 Newton 28 Offensive Summary 6 starters return on offense for Newton this season. Last year the Eagles averaged 34 points per game and will look to keep the offense rolling in 2007. Newton has always been a run oriented team offensively and this year looks to be no different. The RB position is loaded, led by returning starter Justin McLemore. McLemore had a huge year in 2006, rushing for 1,370 and 14 touchdowns. That earned him all-district honors. Another RB that has huge potential is Trey Ethridge. He may see a lot of carries early in the season. Nico Adams moves from RB to QB this year and should be successful there. Other Offensive Impact Players: James Mattox (WR) Jaron Spikes (TE) Defensive Summary The Eagles also welcome back 6 starters on defense. Last season Newton’s defense allowed 17 points per game. All-District LB Dillon Flanigan returns after recording 96 tackles in 2006. Sophomore Malcolm Mattox should also make an impact on defense at LB and at DE. Look for the Newton defensive line to be very good as well in 2007 with Jeff Byerly and Jim Hughes leading the way. Coach Barbay has never been known to shy away from a tough non-district schedule and this year will be no different. All 4 of Newton’s non-district games are against 3A schools. The Eagles open the season on September 7 with a road game at Crockett. On September 14 we have the “battle in the piney woods†as Newton welcomes rival Jasper to Singletary Stadium. Newton will face another 21-3A member on September 21 when they host the Silsbee Tigers. They will close out non-district play at home on September 28 against the Carthage Bulldogs. The Eagles begin 23-2A play on October 12 at Corrigan-Camden. 7. Warren Warriors Coach T.J. Ramsey and his Warren Warriors are very optimistic heading into the 2007 season. Last season Warren finished 4-6 and 3-3 in 24-2A play. Coach Ramsey has 10 total starters back that will look to help push the Warriors into the playoffs in 2007. Key Wins Last Year: Hardin (41-23) Anahuac (24-13) Last Year’s Scores: Warren 24 Huntington 13 West Hardin 14 Warren 12 Woodville 24 Warren 18 Groveton 15 Warren 14 Warren 19 Kountze 3 Warren 41 Hardin 23 East Chambers 27 Warren 12 Deweyville 29 Warren 26 Warren 24 Anahuac 13 Buna 28 Warren 7 Offensive Summary Warren returns 4 starters from an offensive unit that averaged 20 points per game in 2006. The Warriors lose QB Kinney Granger (Navarro) but coach Ramsey expects Travis McBee to fill in at that position. RB Brazos Morris is expected to have a good year for the Warriors on offense this season. Also look for Robert Hulett to have a good season on the offensive line as well. Defensive Summary The Warriors welcome 6 starters back on defense in 2007. Last year Warren allowed 19 points per game. The above mentioned Brazos Morris also plays defense at the LB position and last season had 96 tackles for the Warriors. Also look for Brody Parker to have a good season at the LB position. The Warrior secondary will be led by DB Brandon Young. A key player on the defensive line will be Cody Knighton. Warren will open the 2007 season in week 0 on the road at 3A Huntington. They will then return home for a tough 3 game stretch against West Hardin, Woodville, and Groveton to close out non-district play. The Warriors open 24-2A play on September 28 at Kountze. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Warren Warriors…… Aug. 31 @ Huntington Sept. 7 West Hardin Sept. 14 Woodville Sept. 21 Groveton Sept. 28 @ Kountze* Oct. 5 Hardin* Oct. 12 @ East Chambers* Oct. 19 Deweyville* Oct. 26 OPEN Nov. 2 @ Anahuac* Nov. 9 Buna*
  8. Lumberton Raiders A new attitude and added confidence follows the Lumberton Raiders into the 2007 season. Second year head coach Alvin Credeur looks to take the next step to getting the Raiders into the playoffs for the first time in school history. Lumberton took some strides into turning their program around last year with a few big wins and will try and build on that with the return of 16 starters. Key Wins Last Year: Bridge City (28-24) Vidor (35-29) Last Year’s Scores: Lumberton 21 New Caney 14 Lumberton 28 Bridge City 24 Lumberton 49 Cleveland 0 Dayton 55 Lumberton 7 Lumberton 35 Vidor 29 Central 22 Lumberton 14 PN-G 36 Lumberton 23 Ozen 26 Lumberton 16 LC-M 20 Lumberton 7 Nederland 51 Lumberton 25 Offensive Summary Lumberton welcomes back 8 offensive starters from an offense that averaged 22 points per game in 2006. QB Bryce DeJohn is back as well as RB Cody Hussey and will lead a potent Raider offense this year. In 2006 DeJohn put up great numbers by completing 111 passes for 1,538 yards and 16 touchdowns. RB Hussey also put up good numbers as he rushed for 786 yards and 6 touchdowns. Look for WR Travis Wilkerson to be one of DeJohn’s main targets this season. Other Offensive Impact Players: Cody Evans (TE) Aaron Grillo (FB) Defensive Summary 8 starters are also back on the defensive side of the ball for the Raiders in ’07. Last year the defense gave up an average of 28 points per game. A main anchor for the defense is LB Phil Speight who had 55 tackles last season. Also back are DE Jonathan Ward (34 tackles in ’06) and LB Jacob Hanna (49 tackles in ’06). Lumberton will need for their defense to step up in district to stop the high powered offenses that they will face. Other Defensive Impact Players: Aaron Credeur (DB) Jeremy Carter (DB) Justin Hare (DE) Lumberton will open their season in week 1 with a road game at New Caney followed by the home opener against Bridge City in week 2. The non-district schedule is concluded by a road game at Cleveland. The Raiders open 22-4A play on September 28 at home against defending district champion Dayton. 9. East Chambers Buccaneers Coach Tony Valastro and his East Chambers Buccaneers look primed to take the 24-2A championship once again in 2007. The Bucs welcome 14 starters back from last year’s 11-1 team. Overall the district should be tougher than it was last season and it should make for some very exciting Friday nights. Key Wins Last Year: Hardin-Jefferson (36-35) Deweyville (60-44) Hemphill (35-29) Last Year’s Scores: East Chambers 41 Shepherd 27 East Chambers 41 Orangefield 29 East Chambers 20 Hamshire-Fannett 17 East Chambers 36 Hardin-Jefferson 35 East Chambers 60 Deweyville 44 East Chambers 27 Warren 12 East Chambers 48 Anahuac 6 East Chambers 35 Buna 13 East Chambers 35 Kountze 14 East Chambers 52 Hardin 0 East Chambers 35 Hemphill 29 Mart 49 East Chambers 21 Offensive Summary 7 starters are back on offense for East Chambers in 2007. Last year the offense put up 38 points per game. The leader for the East Chambers offense returns in QB Tramain Thomas. Thomas had one of the best years in all of Southeast Texas in 2006 as he passed for 1,366 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 1,349 yards and 22 touchdowns (team leader in both categories). He also had 2 interceptions from his safety position. Another key player for the Buccaneer offense is TE Vance McDonald. He had 11 catches for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns last year. We expect the East Chambers offense to roll once again in 2007 and continue to light up the scoreboard. Other Offensive Impact Players: Jacoby Carrington (WR) Carlos Trevino © Defensive Summary Coach Valastro also welcomes 7 starters back on defense. Last season the Buccaneer defense allowed 23 points per game. LB Paul Trammell will be the defensive leader this year for the Bucs. He had a monster year last season as he had 119 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries. Joining Trammell at the LB position will be Jarod Rabalais and Kendall Barrow. The defensive line should also be solid, led by Joseph Reed and Brian Vigers. Other Defensive Impact Players: Quentin Joseph (CB) East Chambers plays a very tough non-district schedule as all of their non-district games are against 3A teams. They open the 2007 season in week 0 with a home game with Shepherd. A classic week 1 matchup has the Bucs traveling to Orangefield to take on the Bobcats in a game that is always a great one. East Chambers also has games against Hamshire-Fannett and Hardin-Jefferson on the non-district schedule. They open 24-2A play on October 5 at Deweyville. Another key game in district will be October 26 at home against Buna. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the East Chambers Buccaneers….. Aug. 31 Shepherd Sept. 7 @ Orangefield Sept. 14 @ Hamshire-Fannett Sept. 21 Hardin-Jefferson Sept. 28 OPEN Oct. 5 @ Deweyville* Oct. 12 Warren* Oct. 19 @ Anahuac* Oct. 26 Buna* Nov. 2 @ Kountze* Nov. 9 Hardin*
  10. West Orange-Stark Mustangs The WO-S Mustangs will look to continue their district dominance in class 3A in 2007. The ‘Stangs have yet to lose a district game since dropping to the 3A ranks in 2004, but the road looks to be a little more bumpy this time around for the blue and silver. Not only did WO-S lose a lot to graduation, but they also lost some key coaches in the offseason. That mixture could be enough to allow someone to sneak up and take the 21-3A title from the Mustangs. Key Wins Last Year: Dayton (26-9) Kirbyville (46-16) Silsbee (20-13) Last Year’s Scores: WO-S 26 Dayton 9 WO-S 35 LC-M 14 WO-S 20 Bay City 12 WO-S 54 Hamshire-Fannett 0 WO-S 46 Kirbyville 16 WO-S 62 Hardin-Jefferson 0 WO-S 20 Silsbee 13 WO-S 40 Jasper 0 WO-S 40 Orangefield 13 WO-S 42 Bridge City 6 WO-S 60 Liberty 0 Giddings 20 WO-S 13 Offensive Summary WO-S welcomes back 4 starters from a powerful offensive unit that pumped out 38 points per game in ‘06. The leader of that group is RB DePauldrick Garrett. Garrett rushed for 1,327 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2006 and made first team all-district. Ortavious Hypolite will take over the QB duties after the graduation of Andre Bevil. Another offensive all-district first teamer back is OL Tim Matherne. Brandon Allensworth and Eric Arnold should also have a good year on the offensive line. Even with the low number of returners, don’t expect the Mustang offense to sputter too much. Other Offensive Impact Players: Ronnie Dennis (WR) Defensive Summary Only 3 starters are back on defense for WO-S this year. The ‘Stangs defense was tough in 2006, giving up just 8 points per game. First-Team all district FS Seth Thomas is back to lead the Mustang secondary after recording 117 tackles in 2006. DB Josh Rhodes will be counted on to make an impact in the secondary as well. Another standout on defense is DE/LB Josh Lynch. We will see how the “chain gang†defense performs without the guidance of Coach Mark Foreman this season. Other Defensive Impact Players: DE/LB Cory Bell The Mustangs open the 2007 season with what could end up being the week 0 game of the week in Southeast Texas as they host the Dayton Broncos at Dan R. Hooks Stadium. The following week they travel to cross-town rival LC-M for the Orange Bowl game. WO-S closes out non-district play on Saturday, September 15 against Bay City at Pearland. The ‘Stangs open 21-3A play on September 28 at home against the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns. Two huge games for WO-S in district are October 5 @ Kirbyville and October 19 vs Silsbee. And don’t forget about the Orange County district games with Orangefield and Bridge City. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the WO-S Mustangs…… Aug. 31 Dayton Sept. 7 @ LC-M Sept. 15 Bay City at Pearland Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 Hamshire-Fannett* Oct. 5 @ Kirbyville* Oct. 12 @ Hardin-Jefferson* Oct. 19 Silsbee* Oct. 26 @ Jasper* Nov. 2 Orangefield* Nov. 9 @ Bridge City*
  11. Central Jaguars The 2007 Central Jaguars will be looking to reclaim what they feel belongs to them, the 22-4A championship. The district race last year was nip and tuck all year between Central and Dayton and it was the Broncos that came away with the championship after they beat the Jags 21-20 in Beaumont. One thing is for certain about Central, they will have speed to burn once again this year and should challenge Dayton for the district title. Key Wins Last Year: Nederland (63-24) Vidor (38-34) Barbers Hill (31-28) Last Year’s Scores: Central 21 Baytown Lee 9 West Brook 17 Central 14 Houston Sterling 40 Central 34 Central 27 LC-M 14 Central 63 Nederland 24 Central 22 Lumberton 14 Central 38 Vidor 34 Dayton 21 Central 20 Central 33 PN-G 7 Central 49 Ozen 20 Central 31 Barbers Hill 28 La Marque 30 Central 7 Offensive Summary Coach Stowers will need to find a replacement at QB after the graduation of Brandon Williams (Texas A&M). 5 starters return to an offense that averaged 30 points per game in 2006. The biggest returning starter is RB Derrick Hall. In ’06 Hall was a dual threat, rushing for 550 yards and as a receiver had 450 yards. The offensive line will be a talented group led by Zaybrion Barnwell and Parnell Wells. Other Offensive Impact Players: Victor Spikes (WR) Charlie Thomas (RB) Defensive Summary The defense brings back 6 starters from a unit that allowed 24 points per game in 2006. Defensively, Central should be solid. DE Brian Davis is a pure talent. He had 55 tackles and 7 sacks last season for the Jags. Also look for DL Edward Fleming will give opposing teams trouble all year. The secondary will be lead by CB Adrian Guillory. Other Defensive Impact Players: David Mayfield (LB) Central has a tough non-district schedule to get them ready for the grueling 22-4A race. They open with 5A Baytown Lee at Zaharias Stadium on August 31. They then take a trip down the road to Lamar to face cross-town rival West Brook. The non-district schedule concludes with a trip to Houston to face Sterling. Central opens district play on September 28 @ LC-M. Many feel the 22-4A title could be up for grabs on October 26 when Central travels to Dayton to face the defending champion Broncos. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Central Jaguars…… Aug. 31 Baytown Lee Sept. 7 West Brook at Lamar Sept. 14 @ Houston Sterling Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 @ LC-M* Oct. 5 Nederland* Oct. 12 @ Lumberton* Oct. 19 Vidor* Oct. 26 @ Dayton* Nov. 2 @ PN-G* Nov. 9 @ Ozen*
  12. Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns A new coach and 10 returning starters will try to lead Hamshire-Fannett back to the playoffs for the first time since 2003. Coach Walt Mangan takes over a Hamshire-Fannett program that has struggled for the last few years. Hopefully the change is what the Longhorns need to get back over the hump. Key Wins Last Year: Splendora (10-7) Orangefield (20-7) Last Year’s Scores: Hamshire-Fannett 10 Splendora 7 Hamshire-Fannett 12 Liberty 0 East Chambers 20 Hamshire-Fannett 17 WO-S 54 Hamshire-Fannett 0 Hardin-Jefferson 13 Hamshire-Fannett 7 Silsbee 13 Hamshire-Fannett 7 Jasper 12 Hamshire-Fannett 7 Hamshire-Fannett 20 Orangefield 7 Bridge City 27 Hamshire-Fannett 7 Kirbyville 39 Hamshire-Fannett 7 Offensive Summary The Longhorn offense struggled all throughout the 2006 season, averaging just 9 points per game. 7 starters are back for the 2007 season and will try to turn that number around. QB Randall Courville is back and will be the offensive leader for the ‘Horns this season. The Hamshire-Fannett offensive line should be very good with big men Derek Moss, Patrick Mueller, Alex Breaux and Dillon Kotz leading the way. Another big factor back is RB Hagen Daigle. Look for the Longhorn offense to be more productive this season. Other Offensive Impact Players: Zack McMahon (TE) Defensive Summary Only 3 starters return for the Longhorn defense in 2007. Hamshire-Fannett’s defense gave up just 19 points per game last year and actually kept the ‘Horns in most of their games in 2006. DE Jake Koehl saw a lot of playing time as a sophomore last season and should improve on his 42 tackles from a year ago. The Longhorn secondary will be led by FS Cameron Burrell and CB Calvin Johnson. RB Daigle will also help out in the secondary after he nabbed 5 interceptions last year. Other Defensive Impact Players: Reggie Boykin (LB) The Longhorns open their 2007 season with a week 0 matchup with defending 22-3A champion Splendora at home. Week 1 will see the ‘Horns travel to Liberty in what is usually a very close game. They will close out non-district play with a home game with defending 24-2A champion East Chambers. The Longhorns open 21-3A play with a trip to West Orange-Stark to take on the Mustangs. Hamshire-Fannett must face the top three picks in the district on the road as they travel to WO-S, Silsbee and Kirbyville. 13. Anahuac Panthers Just 4 seasons ago the Anahuac Panthers were a district champion in class 3A. Last season the Panthers suffered through a 2-8 season. Anahuac made a huge move during the offseason when they picked up former Hull-Daisetta head coach Darrell Barbay to be their new head coach. The Panthers had some very close games last season and should make some noise this year. Key Wins Last Year: Fort Bend Baptist (33-7) Buna (26-14) Last Year’s Scores: Hardin-Jefferson 16 Anahuac 9 Anahuac 33 Fort Bend Baptist 7 Hitchcock 40 Anahuac 6 Splendora 54 Anahuac 13 Anahuac 26 Buna 14 Kountze 31 Anahuac 6 Hardin 13 Anahuac 10 East Chambers 48 Anahuac 6 Deweyville 26 Anahuac 14 Warren 24 Anahuac 13 Offensive Summary The Panthers have 8 starters back from an offense that averaged just 13 points per game last season. QB Jacob Pesina returns after passing for 800 yards and rushing for 250 yards. Other threats in the backfield include the RB duo of Pierre Russell and Keith Kingsbury. Anahuac lost one of their key players RB Kelby Shandy-Kerby to graduation. Also look for TE Hunter Ulrich to have a good season. Anahuac should also have a solid offensive line led by Carlos Gonzales and Henry Sanders. Other Offensive Impact Players: Heriberto Banda (OL) Defensive Summary No Defensive Information Was Submitted Anahuac opens the 2007 season with a tough road game at 3A Hardin-Jefferson. The following week they take on one of the two teams they beat last year, Fort Bend Baptist. They also have a tough game on September 21 at home against defending 22-3A champion Splendora. The Panthers open 24-2A play with a road trip to Buna. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Anahuac Panthers…… Aug. 31 @ Hardin-Jefferson Sept. 7 @ Fort Bend Baptist Sept. 14 Hitchcock at Deer Park Sept. 21 Splendora Sept. 28 @ Buna* Oct. 5 Kountze* Oct. 12 @ Hardin* Oct. 19 East Chambers* Oct. 26 @ Deweyville* Nov. 2 Warren* Nov. 9 OPEN
  14. Hardin-Jefferson Hawks 3 points. That’s all that separated the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks from a winning season last year. The Hawks were involved in 3 one point games and each time they came up on the losing end. Had they been able to pull off those wins they would have finished 6-4 instead of 3-7. Coach David Martel has 12 starters back that will try and push Hardin-Jefferson toward a winning record and one of those playoff spots in the brutal 21-3A in 2007. Key Wins Last Year: Cleveland (41-14) Hamshire-Fannett (13-7) Last Year’s Scores: Hardin-Jefferson 16 Anahuac 9 Hardin-Jefferson 41 Cleveland 14 East Chambers 36 Hardin-Jefferson 35 Bridge City 21 Hardin-Jefferson 20 Hardin-Jefferson 13 Hamshire-Fannett 7 WO-S 62 Hardin-Jefferson 0 Kirbyville 44 Hardin-Jefferson 14 Silsbee 28 Hardin-Jefferson 3 Jasper 26 Hardin-Jefferson 25 Orangefield 45 Hardin-Jefferson 32 Offensive Summary The Hawks welcome back 6 starters from an offense that put up 20 points per game in 2006. The main weapon back is RB Trey Burrell. Last season Burrell nearly broke the 1,000 yard mark as he rushed for 955 yards on 161 carries with 9 touchdowns. Hardin-Jefferson also brings back their QB Elliott Deshotel. Deshotel passed for 500 yards and rushed for 300 yards in 2006. The Hawk offensive line should be able to open up some holes for Burrell as well as give Deshotel some time to throw with Cody Sanders, Jake Roby and Taylor Monse leading the way. Other Offensive Impact Players: Jordan Villisan (WR) Defensive Summary 6 starters are also back on defense for ’07. Last year the Hardin-Jefferson defense allowed 29 points per game. A key factor for the 2007 Hawk defense will be DE Stephen Smith. We also look for big things out of the Hawk linebackers led by David Daniels. Daniels had a stellar season in 2006 as he recorded 53 tackles. The strong defensive core should help to keep Hardin-Jefferson in most of their games this season. Other Defensive Impact Players: Beau Hansen (LB) Hardin-Jefferson will open the 2007 season with a week 0 matchup with up and coming 2A team Anahuac. The following week they make the trip to Cleveland to face the Indians. The Hawks close out non-district with a marquee matchup with East Chambers. The district 21-3A opener for the Hawks will be a September 28 home date with the Bridge City Cardinals. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks…… Aug. 31 Anahuac Sept. 7 @ Cleveland Sept. 14 OPEN Sept. 21 @ East Chambers Sept. 28 Bridge City* Oct. 5 @ Hamshire-Fannett* Oct. 12 WO-S* Oct. 19 Kirbyville* Oct. 26 @ Silsbee* Nov. 2 Jasper* Nov. 9 @ Orangefield*
  15. Orangefield Bobcats Coach Blake Morrison enters his 4th season as head coach of the orange and white and will look to shake up the 21-3A waters in 2007. Coach Morrison hopes to lead the ‘Cats to a place they haven’t been since 2003, the playoffs. It will be a very tall task to get there as 21-3A is thought of by many to be one of the toughest districts in the state. Key Wins Last Year: Splendora (34-26) Jasper (33-7) Last Year’s Scores: Orangefield 28 Buna 7 East Chambers 41 Orangefield 29 Orangefield 34 Splendora 26 Silsbee 35 Orangefield 27 Orangefield 33 Jasper 7 Kirbyville 40 Orangefield 26 Bridge City 28 Orangefield 18 Hamshire-Fannett 20 Orangefield 7 West Orange-Stark 40 Orangefield 13 Orangefield 45 Hardin-Jefferson 32 Offensive Summary Last year the Bobcat offense averaged 26 points per game. The ‘Cats lost arguably one of the best quarterbacks to ever come through Orangefield in 3-year starter Bret Ramsey (Louisiana College) to graduation. Jerrod Helton will fill that spot for his senior season after playing at the receiver position last year and catching 4 touchdowns. Look for tailback Shea Mayo to make an impact on offense as well as tight end Jeremy Granger. A total of 6 starters return on the offensive side of the ball in 2007. Other Offensive Impact Players: Ben Dixon (OL) Defensive Summary Defensively Orangefield allowed 27 points per game in 2006. Many would think that having just 4 starters back on defense would cause the Bobcats to struggle on that side of the ball. However, Coach Morrison is a defensive specialist and should have the young Bobcats more than ready to compete in a district full of high powered offenses. Of the 4 starters back, defensive back Ryan Granger will be counted on heavily. Granger hauled in 6 interceptions last year and should have another great season in ’07. Other Defensive Impact Players: Zach Peevey (LB) Jacob Felts (LB) Jace Statum (DB) The Bobcats will open the 2007 season at home against rival Buna. The following week they host last year’s 24-2A champion from East Chambers. Orangefield closes out non-district play with a road game at Splendora. A key game this year for the Bobcats will be the district opener at Silsbee. Last year’s game between the two turned out to be a classic as the Tigers narrowly escaped F.L. McClain Stadium with a win. Look for the ‘Cats to be fired up in week 7 as they travel to Bridge City for the 8th annual Bayou Bowl game. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Orangefield Bobcats…… Aug. 31 Buna Sept. 7 East Chambers Sept. 14 @ Splendora Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 @ Silsbee* Oct. 5 Jasper* Oct. 12 @ Kirbyville* Oct. 19 @ Bridge City* Oct. 26 Hamshire-Fannett* Nov. 2 @ West Orange-Stark* Nov. 9 Hardin-Jefferson*

  17. West Hardin Oilers Last season the West Hardin Oilers went 8-3 and a perfect 4-0 in 24-1A play to win the district championship. The game that everyone expected to be a barn burner for the championship turned out to be a blowout win for the Oilers as they beat Hull-Diasetta 36-7. West Hardin is once again expected to be at the top of the district race with Hull-Diasetta in 2007 and many expect the championship to once again be decided when these two meet up. Key Wins Last Year: Warren (14-12) Hardin (26-24) Hull-Daisetta (36-7) Last Year’s Scores: Groveton 43 West Hardin 0 West Hardin 14 Warren 12 West Hardin 26 Hardin 24 West Hardin 45 Kountze 25 Huntington 16 West Hardin 15 West Hardin 40 Kelly JV 6 West Hardin 25 Evadale 0 West Hardin 42 Sabine Pass 0 West Hardin 36 Hull-Daisetta 7 West Sabine 34 West Hardin 30 Offensive Summary Coach Westfall welcomes back 5 starters on offense for the 2007 season. Last year the Oilers averaged 27 points per game. West Hardin lost 2 of the best players in all of Southeast Texas last year in Brandon Letsinger and Zach Simmons. QB Tyler Copeland and RB Ethan Tubbs will fill those spots. As backups last season Copeland passed for 275 yards and 5 touchdowns and Tubbs rushed for 376 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tubbs also caught 12 passes for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns last season. Other Offensive Impact Players: Matt Henshaw (TE) Defensive Summary The Oilers also have 5 starters back from a defensive unit that gave up 17 points per game last year. LB Jarid Bordes returns after having a huge 2006 season. Bordes finished 2006 with 174 tackles. Also back on defense is LB Justin Doiron who had 4 interceptions last season. The West Hardin DL will be led by Jasper Fillingame, Lucas Lowe and Austin Laird. The Oilers also have a pair of very good DE in Josh Bowman and B.J. Meche. Other Defensive Impact Players: Patrick Kelley (LB) West Hardin will begin their season with a home game in week 0 against Groveton. They will then hit the road for 3 straight games against 24-2A teams Warren, Hardin and Kountze. The Oilers open 24-1A play on October 12 when they travel to Evadale to face the Rebels. Many feel the district championship will be decided once again on November 2 when West Hardin travels to Hull-Daisetta. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the West Hardin Oilers…… Aug. 31 Groveton Sept. 7 @ Warren Sept. 14 @ Hardin Sept. 21 @ Kountze Sept. 28 Huntington Oct. 5 Kelly JV Oct. 12 @ Evadale* Oct. 19 Sabine Pass* Oct. 26 OPEN Nov. 2 @ Hull-Daisetta* Nov. 9 High Island*

  19. Sabine Pass Sharks Coach Jason Thibodeaux and his Sabine Pass Sharks were just 1 win away from making the playoffs last season after losing to Evadale in week 10 and finishing with a 3-5 record. 15 starters are back for the 2007 season and they will be looking to get to the playoffs for the first time in years. Key Wins Last Year: Chester (39-12) High Island (41-0) Last Year’s Scores: Colmesneil 56 Sabine Pass 20 Sabine Pass 39 Chester 12 Sabine Pass 49 Colmesneil JV 6 Deweyville JV 40 Sabine Pass 29 West Hardin 42 Sabine Pass 0 Hull-Daisetta 49 Sabine Pass 7 Sabine Pass 41 High Island 0 Evadale 49 Sabine Pass 0 Offensive Summary The Sharks have 8 starters back from an offense that averaged 23 points per game in 2006. Sabine Pass will have a very good backfield with TB Michael Tollett and FB Charles Clark. Last season Tollett rushed for 450 yards while Clark was the team’s leading rusher with 618 yards and 8 touchdowns. The Sharks will also be armed with a good group of WR led by Cody Almond and Josh James. Other Offensive Impact Players: Casey Hagen (WR) Brad Berg (TB) Defensive Summary 7 starters are back on the defensive side of the ball for Sabine Pass in 2007. Last season the Sharks gave up 32 points per game. With more experience this year the Shark defense should be much improved. LB Korey Arceneaux will be the defensive leader after he recorded 40 tackles last season and had one fumble returned for a touchdown. Another key player back is DT Jacob Bonin. Bonin had 38 tackles and 2 sacks last year for the Sharks. The CB duo of Ryan Nguyen and Justin Nguyen will lead the secondary. Other Defensive Impact Players: Logan Peltier (DE) Trevor McNeil (DE) Sabine Pass opens the 2007 season on the road in week 0 against Legacy Christian. They have a big non-district matchup on September 14 at home against Colmesneil. The Sharks close non-district play on October 5 with a trip to Burkeville. 20. West Brook Bruins The West Brook Bruins have enjoyed lots of success since the arrival of Coach Craig Stump a few years ago. The playoffs have become a regular occurrence for the Bruins and they look to keep the trend going in 2007. Last year the Bruin’s season ended in the Regional Quarterfinals to Cypress Falls 44-27 as they ended the year 9-4. Key Wins Last Year: PA Memorial (56-41) Pasadena Memorial (57-34) Fort Bend Marshall (37-14) Last Year’s Scores: West Brook 35 Ozen 14 West Brook 17 Central 14 Spring Westfield 35 West Brook 0 West Brook 62 Atascocita 7 West Brook 30 Kingwood 14 West Brook 40 Baytown Lee 28 West Brook 48 Baytown Sterling 21 West Brook 56 PA Memorial 41 Humble 49 West Brook 32 Channelview 43 West Brook 42 West Brook 57 Pasadena Memorial 34 West Brook 37 Fort Bend Marshall 14 Cypress Falls 44 West Brook 27 Offensive Summary Offensive leader QB Joe Chaisson (Arkansas) is lost but the amazing RB duo of Christian Michael and Albert Williams return and will both be major contributors again in 2007. The duo combined for nearly 3,000 yards as Michael rushed for 1,400 yards and Williams rushed for 1,462 yards. The WR duo of Josh Powdrill and Jordan Garrett should add a powerful punch as well. In all, 6 key starters are back for an offense that pumped out a staggering 410 yards and 37 points per game and it doesn’t appear they will miss a beat in 2007. Other Offensive Impact Players: Christian Lewis (QB) Defensive Summary Defensively the Bruins should be solid with 6 starters back. A strong point of the defense should be the line with Ryan Pollard, Leighton Zeno, and Roland Barmalon leading the way along with all-district 1st team DE Blake Chavis back. The secondary should also be strong lead by Mike Williams, Chris Gilford and David Falgout. Other Defensive Impact Players: Devin Williams (LB) Week 0 of the 2007 season will once again be headlined by the cross-town matchup between West Brook and Ozen at Lamar’s Cardinal Stadium. In week 1 the Bruins head back to Lamar to face their other cross-town rivals from Central. 21. Port Arthur Memorial Titans Ronnie Thompson enters his second year at Memorial after a successful first year at the helm in 2006 and will be looking to return to the postseason and make a deeper run this year. The Titans were knocked out of the playoffs in the Bi-District round by La Porte 56-27. Memorial returns 11 starters off last year’s team and should be one of the front runners for the 21-5A championship in 2007. Key Wins Last Year: Baytown Lee (27-26) Humble (33-30) Last Year’s Scores: Memorial 31 Ozen 27 Aldine Nimitz 44 Memorial 28 Houston Lamar 29 Memorial 6 Memorial 21 Channelview 14 Memorial 56 Atascocita 6 Kingwood 51 Memorial 34 Memorial 27 Baytown Lee 26 West Brook 56 Memorial 41 Memorial 20 Baytown Sterling 6 Memorial 33 Humble 30 La Porte 56 Memorial 27 Offensive Summary Memorial’s spread offense is sure to keep opposing defenses on high alert all year long after they averaged 30 points per game in 2006. 6 starters are back on offense for the Titans and the main threat is WR Freddie King. Last year King hauled in 50 catches for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns. Coach Thompson will have to find a replacement at QB after the graduation of Davon Lewis (McNeese State). The two front runners for that job appear to be Harry Brown and Jareal Alexander. Look for tailback Patterson Clay to have a big year in 2007. Other Offensive Impact Players: Rashaud Brown (WR) Craig Bailey (WR) Glenn Windon (WR) Kevin Thomas (OL) Defensive Summary The Titans welcome back 5 starters from a defensive unit that gave up 31 points per game in ’06.
