Roccaforte working on Beaumont game with Knight, Raiders Bob West column for Sunday, October 22, 2006 The Port Arthur News It’s a good bet that nobody outside Texas Tech’s basketball program was happier than Lamar’s Steve Roccaforte over word that Bobby Knight has agreed to a contract extension with the Red Raiders. Roccaforte is close to getting a deal finalized that would bring Tech to the Montagne Center — probably as the centerpiece of the 2008-09 schedule — and was hoping Knight would still be the head coach. The volatile Knight, with 869 wins and three NCAA championships to his credit, needs only 11 more victories to become the all-time winningest coach in Division 1 history. Getting him to Beaumont would be a real coup for Roccaforte . . .

Coach Brian Barbay is a great coach and person. He was at Orangefield when I was in junior high. I always liked him. As far as the game goes, OF hasn't beat HF since 2002 and will be looking for someone to take out their frustrations on after BC dashed all hopes for the playoffs. It will be tough going to HF. Good luck to both teams.
