Which Volleyball Teams Will Make Noise This Year ?
Bobcatfan4life replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
BC and Silsbee will fight for the district title in 21-3A. H-F will be good as well. In 4A the usual suspects PN-G should lead the pack. -
Well the season is one month away and we couldn't be more ready! We will be posting a top ten every Sunday during the regular season. We are looking forward to one of the most exciting seasons of Southeast Texas high school football in many years and hopefully at the end of December we will see some gold brought back home. So, here's hoping for an injury free season for all of our teams and let's make it a great one!!! Here is the SETXsports preseason top ten....... 2006 SETXsports Preseason Top Ten 1. Beaumont West Brook- Last year the Bruins got a taste of winning again as they returned to the playoffs after a seven year absence and made it to the regional quarterfinals before bowing out to Katy to finish the year at 8-2, a complete turnaround from their 2-8 finish in 2004. Craig Stump left Kelly and took over at the Brook last year and brought along all-star quarterback Joe Chaisson. With a full year of Coach Stump’s system under their belt, the return of Chaisson for his senior season, and the exit of state powerhouse Spring Westfield from the district many feel that West Brook is primed to take the 21-5A championship this year. The Bruins will open their season September 1 with game one of the Beaumont Bowl Series against Ozen at Lamar’s Cardinal Stadium. 2. West Orange-Stark- Life without Kenneth Beasley begins for the Mustangs this season. The University of Texas signee led the Stangs all the way to the class 3A Division 1 State Semifinals last year where they fell to eventual state champion Wimberley. However, don’t expect WO-S to stumble too much as they always produce some of the area’s top notch talent. All-State second team defensive back Earl Thomas returns for his senior season to man his defensive back position and will also be splitting time in the backfield with junior DePauldrick Garrett. Jacoby Franks, an all-state honorable mention at wide receiver, and the younger brother of Texas A&M receiver Kerry Franks, will take over the quarterback duties for the Stangs. Look for big things on the defensive side of the ball as well from Dominique Rhodes, Andre Bevil, and Dustin Locks. WO-S will open the 2006 season on September 1 against the “ponies from the west†as they travel to Dayton to face the Broncos. 3. Beaumont Central- New leadership entered Jaguar country last year as Donald Stowers took over the reigns at Central High School. The result, a complete 180 from the 2004 season and the district 20-4A championship. Quarterback Brandon Williams (44 completions on 90 attempts for 805 yds and 7 tds), who commited to Texas A&M, returns to lead the offense for Central again this season. With a full year of the new system under their belt these Jaguars are ready to make another championship run in 2006. The Jags will get a stern test right out of the gate as they open the 2006 campaign on September 1 on the road at district 21-5A member Baytown Lee. 4. Port Arthur Memorial- The Titans found life hard last year without the services of Jamaal Charles as they stumbled to the team’s first losing season since their inception in 2002. But with the hiring of new head coach Ronnie Thompson, and the installation of a new wide open spread offense, there is a new attitude in Port Arthur, a winning one. Memorial lost quarterback Robert Joseph to The University of Texas, but Davon Lewis should fill the void nicely for Coach Thompson. With four teams making the playoffs now in class 5A don’t be surprised to see Memorial playing after week ten. The Titans will begin their season with a September 8 home date against Ozen. 5. Nederland- Last year Nederland finished with an average 6-4 record and made it to the Area Round before falling to state power Kilgore 40-11. With the return of quarterback Alex Moshier (77 completions for 1251 yds and 9 tds) and tailback Micah Mosely (105 carries for 700 yds and 7 tds) the Bulldog offense looks ready to roll again this year. Nederland has to be one of the favorites to make the playoffs in 2006 as head coach Larry Neumann looks to lead his team to their eleventh straight postseason appearance. We will find out in a hurry what these Bulldogs are made of as they open their season September 1 at Houston’s Reliant Stadium against the 4A powerhouse La Marque Cougars. 6. Beaumont Ozen- Ozen has made the playoffs seven of their eight seasons in existence. Normally it would be a safe bet to predict the Panthers to be playing after week 10. However, with the addition of Dayton to the mix (a team they beat by a single point in last year’s Bi District Round) the competition in the already grueling 22-4A just got a whole lot tougher. After the graduation of Anthony Boutte, London Durham takes over the quarterback duties for the Panthers this year. Look for cornerback Ben Wells to have a huge year on the defensive side of the ball for Coach Clayton. Ozen will kick off the 2006 season September 1 with game one of the Beaumont Bowl Series against West Brook at Lamar’s Cardinal Stadium. 7. Dayton- The Broncos make the move into the local 4A district this year and will look to make an immediate impact in Southeast Texas. Dayton went 7-3 last year and won district 19-4A with a perfect 5-0 mark. They ended up falling in the Bi-District Round 14-13 to one of their new district opponents, Ozen. The Broncos welcome back perhaps one of the top running backs in the state in Michael Dugat (205 carries for 1,541 yds and 17 tds). QB Sean Gilley (Sam Houston State) will be replaced under center by former receiver Andrew Thomas (29 catches for 618 yds and 6 tds). We expect Dayton to compete for a playoff spot in 22-4A this season. The Broncos will open the season on September 1 when they host the WO-S Mustangs. 8. Barbers Hill- The 2005 Barbers Hill Eagles ranked among the best in Southeast Texas in both the offensive and defensive categories as they outscored their opponents 418-160. They marched through the regular season undefeated (and virtually uncontested) and right into their 3A division 2 area round contest with the underdog Kirbyville Wildcats. In what turned out to be a high scoring affair Barbers Hill came up short as Kirbyville's Drew Hazelwood would kick a last second field goal to send the shocked Eagles home for a second straight year 36-34. With the return of district MVP Mason Fisher, and the return of Todd and Blake Patton, Barbers Hill is expected to compete for the district championship in their first year in 21-4A. The Eagles will open the season on Saturday, September 2 with a game against Wharton at Pearland. 9. Newton- The Eagles come in to the 2006 season as the defending class 2A Division 1 State Champions. They have found the class 2A football waters to their liking as they have made state championship appearances in each of their two seasons in class 2A. It won’t be too much of a long shot to have them favored to make a third appearance in the title game this year. District MVP Darrell Jenkins returns to man his quarterback position after passing for 1185 yds and 15 tds and rushing for 878 yards and 15 tds last year. Nico Adams will take over the full time rushing duties after the graduation of Toddrick Pendland. The 2006 version of the Eagles begin the season, and their title defense, on September 8 with a tough test as they host the 3A Crockett Bulldogs. 10. Jasper- After a difficult 2005 season, which consisted of Hurricane Rita and the eventual loss of starting Quarterback Gilbert Moye, the Bulldogs are flying under the radar this year. The Dawgs look to rebound from their earliest playoff exit in 4 years in 2006, but will have to rely heavily on some inexperienced skill players. The Bulldogs had somewhat of an identity crisis last year as they resorted to throwing the ball much more then they had in previous years. Look for Jasper to get back to the basics and do what they do best this year, running the ball. Word is Jasper will be very deep at running back in ‘06, possibly using four to five different players at the position. Add on top of that the fact that whomever is running the ball will be running behind one of the best offensive lineman in the area in Jomar Cauley. The quarterback position is still a question mark for the Dawgs, and we will likely not know who will be playing the position until week zero. Jasper will open the 2006 season on the road at Livingston on September 1. Those just missing the cut: PN-G, Bridge City, Silsbee

21-5A District Champions

Hold on, let me get my pen and paper. -
And I applaud you on your positive attitude and your dedication to get better every day you can. I'd take someone like you on my team any day. :thumbsup

I just want to say one thing. The players that complain every time they have to do something and are not willing to practice EVERY day, all they are doing is slowing the process down. It takes hard work, lots of practice and sacrifice to produce a winning team. If you are not willing to do those three things then you have no business being on the team in the first place. You are getting in the way of the ones that do want to get better and do want to win. I'm going to school to be a coach and if this kind of stuff comes up with me here is what I'm going to tell them. If you don't like the way I do things then go to school for five years, get a coaching degree, go to the coaching clinics, then come back and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Until then we are going to do things MY way and if you don't like it you can get off MY team. There, I feel better.

I agree. A year under his system and they should make some noise next year.

How in the heck can you call a team that was a state semifinalist last year and returned an all-state pitcher and has a record of 26-3 overrated? Just wondering
