2. Red-hot Bobcats net two big CABC wins Van Wade The Orange Leader BRIDGE CITY — It’s certainly been “all systems go” for the Orangefield Bobcat baseball team. The Bobcats, ranked No. 4 in the Class 3A ranks, improved to 9-0 on the young season by putting together two blowout victories at the Cardinal Athletic Booster Club Tournament Friday. The Bobcats pounded Liberty 24-2 in their first encounter of the day and then smashed a solid Beaumont Kelly squad 10-0 in their second outing. The Bobcats put together 11 hits against Kelly and four pitchers. Chase Angelle had the big shot, a three-run homer over the left-fend wall to give the Bobcats a 5-0 cushion in the fifth inning. Corey Huckabay went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Jacob Felts was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in. Derrick Evans was 2-for 4 and drove in a run and Jace Statum was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Quinton Evans got the win on the hill, scattering five Bulldog hits while striking out two. Orangefield got on the board in the bottom of the third. Kyle Fontenot drew a walk and Derrick Evans followed with a single and Statum came through with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Fontenot. The Bobcats tacked on a run in the fourth. Huckabay had a one-out single to right and Fontenot reached on an error with two outs. Derrick Evans followed with a RBI single that plated Huckabay. The flood gates opened up in the fifth as the Bobcats put up seven runs on five hits while Kelly had two costly errors as well. Johnathan DeRamus had a leadoff single to center and Felts had a double to center. Angelle then unleashed his three-run bomb to make it 5-0. After Huckabay reached on a bunt single and Josh Watson reached on a fielder’s choice Huckabay eventually scored on a wild pitch and Watson later darted home on a passed ball to make it 7-0. Statum and DeRamus followed with walks and Felts made it 9-0 with a two-run single to left. The Bobcats added their 10th run in the sixth. Quinton Evans drew a leadoff walk, went to second on a bunt by Huckabay and eventually scored on a RBI single by Statum. The Bobcats’ first game against Liberty was a cakewalk. Orangefield scored 24 runs off just 11 hits as the Panthers struggled from the mound and in the field. The Bobcats had some big hits in the process. Quinton Evans had a two-run and a three-run homer and Angelle had a long-ball blast as well. Evans had five RBI and scored four times and Angelle had two hits and scored three times. Felts had two hits, including a double and Derrick Evans had two hits. Brock Whitson nabbed the win on the hill for the Bobcats.
