  3. Tiger Woods just put away Stewart Cink record fashion at the WGC Match Play Final by a score of 8&7. What that means is that Tiger was leading by 8 holes with just 7 remaining in their 36-hole match. Although they never got anywhere near that 36th hole, Tiger managed to pile up 11 victorious holes to Cink's 3
  4. Watch the Dogs, if they can hit in the clutch watch out. With Josh Dean throwing well, Nederland's staff could be the best in local 4A.
  5. Seen most of the games at the LCM tournament........Well run concession stand, field was in playable condition despite all the rains.......Stefen Leger catcher for LCM can swing the bat, I feel their most consistent hitter, Wade Estes (LCM)can hit, plus Matt Johnson has ton's of power.....Ben Jones a lefty from LCM was IMO their best pitcher in this tournament.....Fazio from Kelly is the best pitcher in the area I've seen, LCM would have a lost if he hadn't been pulled, Steinhagen is solid behind the plate and has some real pop with the stick.......Hamshire-Fannett has chance to compete in 3A, they looked a little over matched with St Louis, LCM and Crosby, but came back and beat a good Kelly team, Brett Koenig and Logan Johnson of HF looked good on the mound......St Louis of LC can play, they smash the ball and play solid defense......Crosby was missing some players, but they are a solid team to be reckon with.

  9. Look at Navasota's take of the game, written by their local sportswriter. GIRLS Navasota beats Orangefield in overtime: HUMBLE -- The Navasota Lady Rattlers squandered a 17-point lead in the final 3 minutes of regulation but managed a tie with a second left to force overtime. Navasota grabbed a 76-69 victory in the extra frame over Orangefield in Class 3A Region III girls basketball regional quarterfinal action. Navasota (34-3) will play District 17-3A champ Waco Robinson at 8 p.m. Friday at Sam Houston State in the regional semifinals. Robinson eliminated 18-3A champ Madisonville 52-48 on Tuesday night. Navasota had a season-high 26 turnovers and missed seven free throws in the final 3 minutes to allow 21-3A champ Orangefield to take the lead. Navasota regained the lead on a basket by Jamie Spriggs with 5 seconds left, but the Lady Rattlers were called for a foul on a desperation shot by Orangefield from midcourt with 1 second left. No. 15 Orangefield hit two of three free throws for the lead, but when its bench players jumped onto the court to celebrate, a technical foul was called. Navasota's Brateicka Mock missed the first free throw, but the second one fell after rolling around the rim twice. "To our kids' credit, we came back and took care of business in the overtime," Navasota head coach Tommy Gates said. "It was a tough game. Eleven kids fouled out [combined] on both teams." Fifth-ranked Navasota had been eliminated in the second round the last two seasons. 11. [Hidden Content] Yesterday was just the first day of the Accenture Match Play Championship outside Tucson, but Tiger Woods decided to make it exciting -- well, as exciting as golf gets -- by falling behind J.B. Holmes by three holes with only five to play. For humans, that's an impossible deficit. For Tiger, it just means that it's time to win four straight holes with three birdies and a 35-foot eagle.
  12. Nederland's Dustin Hood "Goff combines with junior shortstop Dustin Hood to give Wake Forest a steady defensive presence up the middle. Hood has been the Deacons' starting shortstop since day one of his freshman campaign. Last season, Hood started all 63 games and led the team with 72 base hits. Hood, who was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2007 ACC Championships, finished the year hitting .278 with 42 RBIs." Link to Team Preview of Wake Forest
  13. Westbrook's Jay Bruce, eager to learn, leans on Griffey "Bruce wears a red rubberized bracelet on his wrist to honor a friend, David Murphy, a baseball players at the University of Houston, who is battling leukemia. "I had a baseball camp to raise money for him and Griffey sent me an autographed jersey," said Bruce. "He didn't have to do that, being who he is." Link to Story

  19. Major League Baseball umpires will gather between home plate and the pitcher’s mound tommorrow to discuss many of the biggest issues affecting America, as Congressional panel spends it’s time determining the level of steroids use in baseball. “Hey, don’t get us wrong,†says umpire Hunter Wendelstedt. “We are huge baseball fans. We dedicated our careers to the sport. But that said, we kind of think there might be some bigger concerns facing American right now than whether or not Roger Clemens may have taken steroids. So while Congress is busy umpiring baseball, we’re going to handle the rest of the country.†The umpires will discuss the Iraq War, health care reform, global warming, border security, energy independence, taxes, torture, Social Security, and the minimum wage. “We don’t want to bite of more than we can chew,†says umpire Joe West. “But there are a lot of big issues out there that need to be addressed. We think those are a good start. If we can hammer out solutions to those, we’ll turn to campaign finance reform, job outsourcing, the mortgage crisis and the strike zone.†Jeff Kellogg says he suspects his fellow umpires to come up with many good solutions. “We’re not all wishy washy like Congress,†he says. “There is no gray area in baseball. It’s either a ball or a strike. You are either safe or out. We’ll either stay in Iraq or get out. Drill in Alaska or won’t. We will move this country forward.†Rep. Henry Waxman, the chairman of the committee investigating steroids in baseball, said he welcomes the umpires’ contributions solving the country’s other problems. “If they can keep focusing on that stuff, I’d really appreciate it,†says Rep. Waxman. “That way, I can do more of this fun, sports work. You know who I’d like to call next? Pele. I always thought it would be cool to meet him and get his autograph. You know: ‘Here. Sign this affidavit. Write it out to Henry.’â€
