  1. The NY Times surveyed 90 writers who do perennial Hall of Fame voting. Bonds received 59 percent, and Clemens 56 percent, of "yes" votes — neither percentage of which equals or surpasses the 75 percent necessary to reach Cooperstown.
  2. Again, great work WOS87. Time just awarded V Putin Man of the Year, I nominate you SETXsports member of the year for 2007.
  3. Congrats to DJ. This might be our 1st AP Defensive Player of the Year @Nederland.
  4. Brevel is good one. It's a tough call with so many solid 1st base coaches in the area. Moore @ BC, Stephenson @LCM, Spell @Nederland and Lindstrom over at HF. They all can hit fungo with the best. I would have to go with Stephenson over at LCM. Not only does he protect Coach Griff from blue, he has to fend off his own crowd when they disagree with a coaches call. I found a pic of Coach Stephenson when his own fans thought he should have sent a man to second instead of holding him up.
  5. Clemens fires back, denies taking steroids or HGH Updated: December 18, 2007, 7:56 PM ET NEW YORK -- Roger Clemens denied allegations by his former trainer that he took performance-enhancing drugs, calling them "a dangerous and destructive shortcut that no athlete should ever take." I want to state clearly and without qualification: I did not take steroids, human growth hormone or any other banned substances at any time in my baseball career or, in fact, my entire life," Clemens said Tuesday in a statement issued through his agent, Randy Hendricks. "Those substances represent a dangerous and destructive shortcut that no athlete should ever take. "I am disappointed that my 25 years in public life have apparently not earned me the benefit of the doubt, but I understand that Senator Mitchell's report has raised many serious questions. I plan to publicly answer all of those questions at the appropriate time in the appropriate way. I only ask that in the meantime people not rush to judgment." [Hidden Content]
  6. Has football suffered with murders and suspensions?. What about basketball with it's brawls, sexual harrasment and referres gambling? Baseball will survive and flourish, as far as the players they made their bed, now lie in it. From the words of the great Ernie Banks "Let's play two"
  7. I'll tip my hat to Cobb. Shoeless Joe interrupts Ray’s rapture by saying, “And Ty Cobb wanted to play. None of us could stand the *** when we were alive, so we told him to stick it!â€
  8. Nederland's Brian Sanches signs with Washington Nationals, joins WOS John Patterson for the 2008 season.
  9. Forum rule 18 ) The bashing of any particular coach, player, referee, etc will not be tolerated. This includes issues involving their personal lives, coaching/playing style or performance, past experiences, etc. Don't know him, but if he's kin to Jamie Knight who I coached a few years in summer league I'll take him.
  10. Fernando has used the Pettitte card, right or wrong. Fernando Vina Admits HGH Use By MIKE FITZPATRICK AP Baseball Writer NEW YORK (AP) - Former major league infielder Fernando Vina on Monday admitted using human growth hormone in 2003 as he attempted to heal from injuries. Vina, now an ESPN baseball analyst, was named last week in the Mitchell Report on performance-enhancing drugs. The report said he also purchased steroids from ex-New York Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski, but Vina denied those claims. "I never bought steroids from him. All I used was HGH," Vina said in an interview on ESPN. [Hidden Content]

  12. By DOUG FERGUSON THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) -Rory Sabbatini didn't let the year end without getting under Tiger Woods' skin one last time. In a move that left players shaking their head, Sabbatini withdrew from the final round of the Target World Challenge on Sunday citing "personal reasons," the first player in the nine-year history of the event to leave early. Sabbatini still received $170,000. He was in last place heading into the final round, 28 shots behind "They don't have any flights to Hawaii tonight?" Fred Couples said, shaking his head. "He's messing with the wrong guy." [Hidden Content]

  14. Liberty Hill State Champs beat Gilmer 38-13. China Springs handing Cuero their hat, up, 24-7
  15. Celina goes back for the 3rd time in a row as they beat Snyder 33-7. China Springs leads Cuero 10-7 and Liberty Hill 32-13 over Gilmer late.
  16. Tiger blew up in today's 3rd round, shot 67. Has a 6 shot lead going into tomorrow's final round. Coop, we need an answer on our question from yesterday. The greatest athlete in the last 20 years and we have to post about him on the high school golf thread. When the Coop doesn't see a question and give an answer that's proof no one has seen it.
