  1. Bonds is 1-1 with a single, he's coming to the plate.
  2. With Bonds in Town, Dodgers Host Steroid Awareness Clinic LOS ANGELES (AP) -There was a steroids awareness clinic at Dodger Stadium, and it had nothing to do with Barry Bonds. Approximately 100 Little Leaguers were at the ballpark before Thursday night's game against Bonds' San Francisco Giants for a two-hour session led by Los Angeles center fielder Juan Pierre, hitting coach Bill Mueller and former Dodger Lou Johnson. The boys and girls, ages 12 to 17, received a Dodger goodie bag. "I'm not touching no Barry questions," Pierre said to reporters later. "I didn't even realize when they asked me to do it, what was the date or when it was going to be. It was all for the kids, just telling them about the severity of taking steroids." The 43-year-old Bonds headed into Thursday night's series finale with 754 home runs, one from tying Hank Aaron's record. There are suspicions the slugger's pursuit was fueled by steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, which he has long denied knowingly taking. [Hidden Content]

  5. Buchholz strong in Pawsox 10 inning loss Clay Buchholz had few nits to pick about his fourth Triple-A start for the Pawtucket Red Sox. In 6 1/3 innings against one of the International League’s premier teams, the Buffalo Bisons, the slim right-hander allowed two runs on five hits - replete with zero walks and nine strikeouts (Buchholz now has 30 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings with the PawSox). But the Bisons scored an unearned run in the 10th and edged Pawtucket, 3-2, on Wednesday night. “A big part of my development right now is staying ahead in the count and being able to throw off-speed pitches for strikes … even not for strikes and getting some swings and misses out of them,†said Buchholz, who threw 67 of 94 pitches for strikes. “Overall, tonight, I’d call it a successful outing. But you’re here to win. When you don’t win, it’s on the border of not being a successful outing. [Hidden Content]

  16. COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. -- Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken Jr. were enshrined on a hot and glorious Sunday afternoon before by far the largest crowd in the history of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, and those who made the pilgrimage were treated to emotional speeches that were characteristically highlighted by two heroes' thoughts on hard work and responsibility as professional athletes. [Hidden Content] "Where would any of us in this game be without the people who love the game and their teams and who even make trips to events like this long after we've put down our gloves and bats?" Ripken said. "I know some fans look at the streak as a special accomplishment, and while I appreciate that I always looked at it as just showing up for work every day. As I look out at this audience I see thousands of people who do the same - teachers, police officers, mothers, fathers, business people and many others. You all may not receive the accolades I have throughout my career, so I'd like to take the time out to salute all of you for showing up, working hard and making the world a better place. Thank you all." Cal Ripkin

  18. The Babe ate and drank too much, Henry had racism to deal with, what would they have done in today's time. NEW YORK - Jose Canseco, who admitted to steroid use in a book two years ago, said in an interview Friday that he's talking to publishers about a new book. Canseco also has reportedly met with former Senator George Mitchell to provide baseball’s investigation of performance-enhancing drugs with several names. Canseco told Boston radio station WEEI that he had “other stuff on Alex Rodriguez that will be coming out (in the new book)â€, but there is no suggestion that the New York Yankees third baseman used steroids.
