  2. St. Aloysius rising sophomore Justin Rushing, right, and rising sophomore Pierson Waring (21) will try to lead the Vicksburg Flashes, a team made up of St. Al and Warren Central players, to a Babe Ruth Southwest Regional championship. The tournament is scheduled to begin Friday morning at Bazinsky Field. (Brian Loden • The Vicksburg Post Officials tweak game times for regional By Jeff Byrd [07/17/07] The Babe Ruth 16-year-olds' Southwest Regional may be something new for Vicksburg, but many of the teams coming in to play have had their share of experiences. One of the first things to change for tournament host Marshall Upton was Friday's opening day game times. “Originally we had it starting at 2 and going 2, 4, 6 and 8 but that wasn't enough time between games. So now, we're looking to start at 11 a.m. on Friday,†Upton said Monday before going over instructions with the two local teams that will make up the eight-team field. The tournament will use a double-elimination format. Mid-County, Texas coach Jimmy Collins said the original times wouldn't have worked. “If they started at 2 (p.m.), they'd be playing the last game around midnight,†Collins said Monday by phone from Nederland, Texas. Collins knows a lot about how these regionals work. “I've been to about 20,†he said. “I've mainly coached our 17-and-18-year-olds teams, but I have the 16s this year.†[Hidden Content] Roster Blake Snyder (BC) Jude Vidrine (Ned) Trae Hester (Vid) Chad Sims (Vid) Ryan Bearden (HF) Chaz Bruce (Vid) Jordan Pitts (Ned) Conrad Roberts (Ned) Austin Sangster (PNG) Taylor Eaves (HF) Taylor Thompson (LCM) Josh Garza (LCM) Cameron Collins (Ned) Travis Weatherbee (PNG) Matt Woods (PNG) Matt Johnson (LCM) Jesse Griffin (Vid)

  4. Is WB's Jay Bruce the next Ken Griffey Jr.? Sweet has high hopes for new Bat By C.L. Brown [email protected] The Courier-Journal Rick Sweet's career as a manager launched the same time Ken Griffey Jr. made his minor league debut. Sweet managed Griffey at the Seattle Mariners' Single-A affiliate in Bellingham, Wash. Griffey was fresh out of high school in 1987 and didn't turn 18 until after Bellingham completed its season. 6. MIF04 Would you share a contact person at Triple Play?
  7. This is great news for a local kid who has been under the radar on the local scene. Did Gilligan have any interest? Is Anthony a Sr to be? From other post they have a catcher at Kelly who can play also.
  8. MIF04 is correct, some do hit at the next level, but as 643 has mentioned very few. The kid from Lufkin, Brandon Belt could swing it in high school. He chose the San Jac route, ended up with a great year at the plate plus quality innings on the mound. From what I hear, he's on his way to UT this year and bringing his bat with him.

  12. 1st time I seen Jay was when he was 15 or 16 when we took our Babe Ruth team to Beaumont for a warm up game before we left for a tournment. That swing he had was as sweet as you could ask for. By the way, one of our pitchers was Bucholz.

  14. With WB's track record they should never play in a tournament less than 5A. Memorial is another story, they should never play in a 5A tournament till they get some stability in their program, which is possible.

  17. @Nederland these 4, Eric Cammack, Jesse Floyd, Brian Sanches and Brad Sullivan. I have to think about this awhile, maybe some of our posters have faced these guys and can chime in.
  18. Breaux doesn't play with our league, so we haven't seen him. Hicks, Clark and Snyder do. Snyder and Clark are both good, either one could be no 2.
