psst... bleed.... bet Stang has to get the last word in....

Well GE, after you posted that to be honest with you I wasn't a 100% sure that is who it was so that is why I called just so I could clarify if I was wrong. I know it was 2 girls from Silsbee who went and played. If I am wrong, I will be the first to admit it, because the point is still the same, I am not a person who helps OF kids only. I will say this, I watched Ms. Green play last year against my daughter. She is a great player and by everything I have ever heard or seen she is just as good of a person. No matter where anyone stands, (or lives) she is the type of kid that makes your community proud. I want to be clear that I never, ever one time meant to be disparaging towards ANY player. I thought I was clear on it earlier. And Stang.... oh Stang..... I have coached numerous kids from WOS.... but I understand there is a surgery for chips to be removed from your shoulder.....I'll get the number for you...

Wow, in the immortal words of bleed orange, "is your name forrest gump?" Two girls from Silsbee, Fowler and Green played in a couple of tournaments that the Houston teams did not travel to. I NEVER SAID OR IMPLIED THAT THEY COULDN'T AFFORD TO DO IT THEMSELVES!!!! I talked to the main coach from the Lubbock team yesterday just to confirm it was correct. It really doesn't matter. But let me ask you this Stang, would it make a difference if I listed every kid on that team? No, because the point was never about why it was paid for! Hear me Forrest??????
-
Actually, I never meant to imply anything about race because anyone who knows me knows better. What I was trying to say is that I am not your typical hometown whiner, (and I am talking about all schools not just OF) when I said KK should have been the MVP. Most people defend their own people and could care less about the kids from the other schools. That is why I said if B Scott hadn't got it last year I would have been the first one to cry foul. But, I am as tired of talking about this as anyone.

I love the way some of these moderators feel compelled to lock a thread when people express their opinions. That is what makes message boards interesting. If we all had the same opinion about things, life would be pretty dang boring.

*OF vs. Navasota/Navasota Wins..*

I really hate to say this, but up until this situation I would have agreed 100% with Stang4life. For a ref to make a conscious decision to make a game changing technical call is borderline criminal. I have always said that Refs hardly ever affect the outcome of a game because of the fact that they didn't commit turnovers, miss freethrows, miss layups, etc. However, the technical call because the girls celebrated is unheard of. However, I also feel that it is time to move on because there is virtually nothing that can be done about it other than gripe on a message board. -
Crud I thought Davy Crockett was poor... And just to make sure he isn't talking about ME having more money than Davy Crockett.... lol

First of all, it wasn't a secret, and I never implied that it was because people couldn't afford it. I paid for every kid on the team that year because I knew that a few of them couldn't afford it, (no names mentioned Stang) and I didn't want them to be embarrassed. In fact MOST of the kids on that team parents could have easily afforded it so it wasn't something that was done out of pity or for recognition. I see someone put that I was lying because nobody would pay for a child from another school. Well if that is the attitude of the people you know then I feel sorry for you. I try hard to look beyond what school someone plays for and help kids. Not just with money if they can't afford it, that is a small part of it, but more with time and effort which means much more. I don't need your "pat on the back" or anyone elses, I brought it up to say that I wasn't ONLY interested (as most people on this board are) in kids from my hometown school. I am sorry that people read something else into it and chose to jump to a conclusion that I wasn't making. In the last ten years I have actively coached kids from virtually every school in the area, and although some people at OF didn't agree with it, I didn't give a flip because I was working to help kids. Brittany Scott from WOS wrote me a very long personal note when she signed with U of H about the work she had done with our team and how it helped her. THAT is what it is about, helping kids, and nothing more.

Lamar recruiting local kids
bobcat4life replied to bobcat4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
To be perfectly fair, which I try to do no matter what some people think, Yoshika and Gabriel probably had a lot more opportunities somewhere else. I mean, Gabriel went to UT. Yoshika was offered a full ride by LU. However, several girls who would have made a significant impact for LU (and by the way drawn a good crowd) were not even given the benefit of a phone call by LU. -
Cardfan you are clueless, the girl still doesn't know who I am. I have never met her personally. If you told her who I was she wouldn't know me. The POINT is that I believe KK got the shaft on the MVP. I have never looked for pats on the back from a message board. You have no idea who I am, so crawl back under a rock....

Number one, Congratulations to everyone from H-J. I agree with the posters who commented that Navasota was the most athletic team I have seen in a while. Gotta be proud of ya'lls efforts. And for those of you who would question who drew the play up, you have to admire a head coach who is number one able to hire a BASKETBALL coach for his assistance, and then give them the opportunity to win the game. That is why H-J is heads above the other schools in the district in basketball. Most of the assistant coaches in the district would have went, "hey, where's the fullback go on this play???"

Lamar recruiting local kids

I will say this, Lamar invited my daughter over to the campus to show her around and discuss her playing. It was under the previous coaching staff, but I can say if this guy was a recruiter then I am a rocket scientist. His whole attitude was, "well if you wanna settle for Lamar" blah blah blah..... -
Well thanks Pluto, not even sure who you are but I appreciate the compliment. In fact, I added it up the other day and I have coached in excess of 1,000 kids in the last 15 years. I enjoy it tremendously. And before anyone freaks out, I can tell you that Bleed is not at all racially biased. A couple of years ago, when I was coaching the AAU team that consisted of both Brittany's from WOS, Janae and Memri Carmen from H-F, (her mom was my assistant coach and is one of the finest people I know) we played an inner city black team from Dallas. The ref's were from the same area. They shot 35 free throws to our 2. We still won the game, but my point is that what Bleed is saying is few and far between, but it happens. I am sure that it has happened with white refs too, but no matter what IT IS WRONG. I think that is all Bleed is saying. It is easy to paint everyone from a predominantly white area or all black area as racially biased, but the truth is that just isn't the case. In fact, my daughter used to tell everyone that B Scott was my second daughter. Does that sound like she is biased? And I don't have one thing against Ang Green, in fact, I bet she doesn't even know it but a couple of years ago I paid of her and another Silsbee player to travel with a good friend of mine from Lubbock on their AAU team, without even knowing either kid. So lets just call it like it is, IT IS MY HUMBLE OPINION THAT KK IS HANDS DOWN THE MVP OF THE DISTRICT, AND I COULD CARE LESS WHAT THE COACHES SAID AS THEIR DEGREE IN MATH OR HISTORY OR WHATEVER DOESN'T MAKE THEM BASKETBALL COACHES!
-
Oh stangy... tell you what, go ask Brittany Scott and her parents where she learned her basketball from. Go ask BJ's parents the same thing, while you are at it talk to Chelsey Pickering's parents... any of the OF girls that have been there for the last several years that are above KK. Ask them who taught their daughters more basketball. If you think they are gonna say their HS coach you are sadly mistaken. But I don't recall either myself or Bobcat05 saying EVERYONE was negative towads OF, just you. Somebody from OF pee in your cornflakes a while back or what? In fact, you can see where the HJ people were very positive towards OF. You would think someone from Orange county would have our back, kinda like we do WOS when the move forward in a sport. And just to the point, neither I nor O5 said that Ang Green wasn't very deserving. All we said was that KK was much more of an MVP for HER team. Which is, imo the thought process behind the award. If you could comprehend what you were reading stang, you would see that I totally believe that B Scott was the MVP last year, hands down, no question. Before you comment on something actually know what was being said...
-
I agree with you on all but one count Bobcat05. All of the MVP's, newcomers, etc. are considered first team picks. So that would mean Silsbee 3, OF 3. BTW I am not related to KK either, nor any of the girls on this years team. Guess you and I must be the "wannabe coaches" Bobcat05. Not sure if you know this Aggiearewhatever but there are lots of coaches who don't coach in HS. In fact many of the better coaches I know don't coach in High School at all. A degree in teaching doesn't make you a coach.
-
By the way Aggiewhatever, aren't you from Silsbee?? Wouldn't that make you a homer??
-
You have to be kidding me? Not sure who you are talking about the wannabe coach since several on here have mentioned that Little should have been the MVP. And if you really believe that the coaches are almighty correct then your premise is flawed. Both Silsbee and OF have essentially 3 players on the first team. Last I checked OF handily beat Silsbee both times they played. If you look at the game against Navasota alone in the playoffs, the other 2 OF kids who were first team had a grand total of 4 points. Before you want to get on here and call people names get your stuff together.
-
And you know for a fact that it was a unanimous choice? I don't believe that for a second. And if that is true then they basically had it done before it went to a vote. In other words, they talked it through until all the political BS was overwith. I do notice though that you keep coming up on different threads commenting in a negative way against OF. Did we do something to upset you? I can tell you this, last year if Kristy Sanders would have been chosen as MVP over Brittany Scott I would have been the first one to call foul. Not that Kristy wasn't a great player, but she was surrounded by good players, Brittany wasn't. Kapeesh?
-
I think 90% of the people understand how it works. However, any process of any validity puts KK Little as MVP. And that isn't taking one thing away from Ang Green. If you would switch Green and Little, you get pretty close to accurate IMO.

Lamar recruiting local kids
bobcat4life replied to bobcat4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I coached an AAU team a couple of years ago that many of the better players from SE Texas on it. We went to the National Tournaments in Atlanta, Memphis, etc. and had top five finishes in them. That team of High School girls would have beaten the Lamar kids at the time, but Lamar is brain dead. I agree, I would 100% rather watch local kids play than a bunch of foreign kids, or kids from California, etc. -
Are you kidding me that they don't do a better job of recruiting local kids? KK Little busted practically every record at OF and Lamar hasn't even bothered to talk to her. Same went with the last few years of kids from the area. They talked to Brittany James from WOS one time and gave up because they felt like she wouldn't come there. Then she goes to a school of about Lamar's size a long way from her family. To my knowledge they never talked to Brittany Scott, and she is one of the hardest working kids I have ever seen. U of H is happy about that. And before anyone goes to telling me that the local kids can't compete with the kids that are currently under scholarship from Lamar, I will say this. The last time Lamar was really good they had a roster that boasted mostly local kids. Unbelievable.....
-
All District picks are so much political BS, just like Coach of the Year, etc. I saw a girl get All State a few years ago when some of her team members got zippo, and they averaged the same amount of points, more rebounds and assists. But I have to agree with Bobcat, to say that ANYONE came close to KK this year is absurd. MVP means whoever put their team on their back and carried them to the next level. That is KK exactly. I am not one of those people who thinks that just because you win district you should get 5 players on the team. When I saw the picks, I thought some of the picks to OF were generous just because of where they wound as a team. However, KK is the MVP and the coaches playing politics doesn't change that.

Best information and thoughts I have seen on this game! Navasota is very good. They have all players back except one. They are very, very athletic.....moreso than any team in 21-3A. They boast two post men that are pretty dang good. One is 6'3 ish and can literally hit his head on the ceiling of ANY gym when he jumps-he is a terror on the glass. Opposite him they start a guy that I lovingly call "TINY" as last year he was a 6'5" 310 lb. FRESHMAN and built like a friggin' oak tree. Their guards are super quick and pretty well skilled. They have pretty good depth. Knowing both teams I would guess that OF will have to do so serious damage from the perimeter as Navasota's tandem on the interior will give OF's inside game problems. OF can slow down Navasota and take them out of their game......only problem with that is a slower game is just what "TINY" likes. I will be a good game......should be exciting.
