But I will say this I am good friends with the girls basketball coach at Central. She is awesome and a good coach. The girl sports get no respect from BISD and the area in general. I am pissed about that. The girls basketball program has been successful for many years. The coach has been the reason and they should be rewarded.
My daughter was a cheerleader.  i love her to death but it's hard to get too worked up about cheerleading competitions.   Give me two bits......              ;D
My daugther was a cheerleader too and get ready to spend some money. Also girls are mean. Get ready for the drama. ;D ;D  Been there done that.
I'm through with all that now.  She's a soph at A&M.  Whoop!

 3.
Let me ask you something "westend1" have you ever been involved? I mean really involved.  I have, president of little dribblers and also the ahtletic booster club. My commitment to kids will never come in question in my heart. I never did any of that for my kids because every kid was my kid, plain and simple. Yes I am proud. Until you have seen how the Orangefield community supports the kids, you have no clue.
Nah, I have no clue.  I did just spent two hours at senior league sign ups.  I have a bruise on my arm from umpiring a junior league game(where my kid wasn't even playing)  He plays high school ball now.  I am also on the board and have been for several years.( either little league and now junior/senior league) In fact, I was at the sign shop at 8:00 this morning to pick up signs and spent my lunch hour putting them out.   Does that answer your questions?   And still, I believe there are more important things than being at every high school event.   I'm glad it fulfills your life, Bleed, but there is more.

But it is pretty. Here is what I predict, Beaumont will have one mega school in the future. Sound familar. Get ready tax payers it is coming. Maybe a while but it is coming. It will come to that someday so BISD can afford to pay the salary of Dr Thomas. By then he will need a condo in Florida and another car allowance for his great grandchild.  ;D ;D
Aw man.. I was hopping that we can rival Orangfield's fan base...  But I guess that will never happen according to your 'Jackie Stallone' predictions...
Your right it will never happen. I have seen the support during the lean years for the beaumont schools. Beaumont will never compete with PNG, Nederland or Orangefield when it come to fan support. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!
And you are proud of that?   Some folks realize that high school sports is not everything.
Yes I am and it is not just high school sports. It is everything, I promise you.
Glad for you.  Everyone needs something to live for.
Nobody said anything about Silsbee ISD being perfect. I just gave my perspective seeing that I have to deal with a multitude of school districts in this area. BISD is the only one that gives us problems. Not Silsbee, PNG, PA, BC, WOS, Kountze,......ect, ect, ect
Could be that they have more important things to deal with than where you are going to set up your microphone.              8)
 8. I saw Brook on the practice field today and those boys look BIG.
I have a very good friend who moved their child from West Brook to Port Neches. That child told me that everything was harder at Port Neches. Education and athletics. Seems Port Neches works their kids a lot harder and prepares them for life a little better than West Brook.
From that evidence, you were able to draw that conclusion?
There's more evidence than that. In UIL Academics, PN-G and West Brook have gone head-to-head a couple of times. Normally, PN-G not only defeats West Brook, but everyone else at the meet as well (we've only attended one local invitational meet where we didn't take the sweepstakes award this year). PN-GHS was also a "Recognized" school this year. WB was "Academically Acceptable." No offense West Brook fans. Just stating the facts.
Brains AND a Football team............who would of thunk it  ;D
Our WALMART is bigger and better.
Yeah? Well we have more fans... :P ;D In all seriousness, West Brook is definitely one of the better schools in Southeast Texas. The UIL meet where PN-G didn't take sweepstakes (the one I talked about in an earlier post) was (ironically enough) the 2009 West Brook Math & Science Meet. There were two math/science magnet schools out of Houston there that dominated the meet. PN-G and West Brook were the only local schools participating that had multiple students place. The fact that these two schools were even able to compete in math and science with the two specialized schools from Houston speaks volumes to their ability to teach and prepare students.
I think Westbrook was also "recognized" for 2009, for whatever that is worth.  Considering the socio-economic makeup out here, that's probably not too bad, and a definite improvement over some past years.

 11.

Ok, i am reading this thread, and I read white flight remarks, horrible school district, becoming more like Pt Arthur, etc.... Yet then, we read our superintendant is doing such a fine job.  Lots of contradictions.  I have to agree mostly, with SgtRey.   I do not buy into white flight and disagree with the concept.  I do not intend to compare with Pt. Arthur and feel that that remark is unfair to that community.  I agree that BISD needs to fix their Public relations issues. As far as WB, I have a wife and daughter that teach there and feel that they sincerely do have an interest in preparing their students.  The daughter was prepared by WB in such a way that she excelled with a masters degree from TCU(suma cum laude with 4.0 in only 4 years).  My son was prepared well enough to graduate on time at ATM and has been excepted into med-school.  I have a third at ATM and is doing quite well.  I truly believe that WB offers a good product and that its students are being sufficiently prepared.   I apologize for bragging, but I am a proud DADDY
Your have exceptional kids and should be proud. I never said WB was horrible and I should have worded some of my post in a different manner, I do apologize for that. I can see where it came across in a wrong way. I also think that NONE of the schools in the state of Texas prepares a kid for college. They are more concerned about TAKS (which is another subject) and that is not the fault of the teachers. Some kids are more motivated than others. "Weedbegone" you are a fortunate man. It sounds like your kids are motivated. Not every parent has that luxury. Now back to the subject at hand. I agree with the person that started this thread. IMO they should let the tax payers have a say in naming the athletic complex. Let me ask you guys something, is there any plans to upgrade some of the schools in Beaumont?
Not sure what you mean by upgrade.  The latest bond issue will completely rebuild a lot of the Beaumont schools.  i think every campus will get some type of upgrade, whether it is repairs to existing facilities, expansion to get rid of temporary buildings, are just modernization of existing facilities.   Much of this is already in the building phase.
 12. I would say Trae Hester is more valuable to his team than any of these other fine players.

 16. Well. i got a new Bowtech destroyer 340.  Has a slightly larger brace height than the 350 and it will allow a draw length over 30".  If you are thinking of buying a bow. you need to shoot one of these.
 17. Dirk was unconscious last night.
Sir, what is wrong with us that live in the West end.  You use harsh terms such as haters and then call us cry babies.  Your post stereotypes an entire portion of the community of which is actually now quite diverse in its ethnicity.  Is this not a form of blind prejudice.  Would living in harmony and getting along with our neighbors be a threat to you? I refuse to stereotype you and your community.
Being in the middle of the situation and having kids in BISD and knowing it's history of shortchanging the Non-Westenders, y'all are a bunch of whiners......
I haven't been around long enough to experience the whole history, but I have been here over 20 years and in that time, the west end has definitely not gotten the long end of the stick.  While computers were passed out in other parts of town, we in the west end had to do fundraisers to get them.  I remember when Regina Howell got new basketball goals.  Turns out they were taken down from another part of town when they got new ones. Truth is, in the last 20 years, it is the west end that has gotten  short changed because the admin knows that we will do whatever it takes to raise our own money.  And honestly, that's fine with me.  Just don't come on here whining with the poor little me song.  Those days have been over for some time. And frankly, this has nothing to do with the naming of the complex.  It was a bad idea not because Thomas has done a bad job, but because it only leads to more acrimony, which we really don't need right now.

 20. i think if BC kids do not have senior league available down there, they can.  As far as I am concerned, and I don't speak for the league, anyone can play.
 21. So Brook has 12 now.  Finally cracked double digits.
 22. Can they hang on?
 23.
Actually, Badndn, a bear eats more berries and vegitation than meat, making it an omnivore.  Brook aint vicious enough to be in 'the cage'.   :D :D
yeah.  We like berries and roots, with a Jaguar and a Panther once a year.                ;)
 24. Beaumont Baseball will hold registration for Senior League on April 21 from 6 pm - 8 pm and April 24 from 8 am - 12 pm at the Amelia Senior League fields.  Cost is $100.  We will interleague with Lumberton, Woodville, Spindletop and maybe others.  All kids 15-16 are invited, if they have no place to play this summer.  I can answer any questions at 673-3610.
