I guess that is what I don't understand.  i've killed tons of stuff with my bow as well. Haven't picked up a rifle since 1990.  I have no desire to shoot a skinny, 1 1/2 year old buck.  I somewhat understand that some still find pleasure in shooting little deer, but I don't.  So, from a personal perspective, I like the change.  And, if hunters will give it a chance, they should be able to shoot just as many deer as before within a couple of years, but they will be larger deer.  Why is that such a bad thing?   2 or 3 lost years, where you still might stumble across a legal deer, a spike or a doe.  It just doesn't seem like that big of a sacrifice.
Where is it you hunt again????
I hunt near Junction, now.  You would hate being on my lease.   We have far more restrictive rules than a 13" spread.   We only shoot bucks that are 5 year olds.  I haven't killed one in two years, but I did see a couple of really good bucks that I couldn't get a shot at.
I really would not have a problem with that.. I just like to shoot a deer or 2 for the table. You can shoot does on your lease  can't you?
Sure.  We need to kill at least 20 each year.  We have 6 hunters and probably kill half that many.  Most everyone is waiting to shoot an axis.    My son got an axis doe this year with his bow, and I shot a whitetail doe, so meat was not really an issue for us.  Look, I guess I understand that everbody has situations that make it tough to get a deer each year, and lots of people want a deer for the grill, but I truly believe that this new reg will be good in the long run, and maybe I can get back here in east Texas so I don't have to  make a 6 hour drive to find decent hunting.  I would much prefer to find a place that I could hunt more than 4 weekends per year.  i just got tired of the big timber leases where you couldn't pass a deer, knowing that the next guy down the pipeline was going to shoot it.
You must not know the players you have comeing up.. I had a chance to See these kids play young..This is a speical group IMO Brook has comeing up..Even tho they will still lose to my Jags :D,, I see them going further than 3 rounds as long as they live up to the Expectations..Yall have some Great leaders on this team aslo.
Yeah.  You are right D3.  I probably don't know them very well.          ;)

 8.
You also might want to check with the local deer processing markets and ask them if this new law affected their buisnesses this year
I assume it did.  At least I hope so.  In a couple of years, it will be back to normal.

I hunt public land , and was forced to pass up at least 5 bucks that were too small this season....Does everyone believe that every deer has the genetics to become a trophy deer with a 20" or even a 14-15" spread if allowed to age???? I have been hunting for over 40 years and I am positive I have seen deer that were 4 or 5 years old that had an antler spread less than 13".. I realize this is probably the exception rather than the rule but what will happen to these deer?? (The only thing that legally can, they die of old age..)    How many kids' (or adults for that matter) first buck was a 4 point, which at that time was a "Bonified trophy" to that individual...                                                                     This is just my 2 cents
Your entire statement is exactly why the state had to step in. Thank You TPWD !!
It's people like you that I don't understand...You saying we should all be trophy hunters because that is what you want to be??? Hopefully your son or grandson will be one who shoots a "spike" that has a hidden kicker point on the bottom of each antler and you get to pay the ticket for it.. I did fail to mention I did not want to shoot any of these bucks I saw this year , but it is the fact that I could not even if I wanted to...
You can't keep a 12" trout or an 18" redfish either.  Does it bother you that they are also making you a trophy fisherman?  It's good for the herd.    Isn't that reason enough?
 10.
West Brook - I think Preston Warner and Logan Dugas (both Soph.)will help this team out a bunch this year. Preston Warner has a great arm (upper 80's) and a big stick. Logan, also has a great arm and great control. Look for these guys to turn some heads this year.
i agree that those guys are going to look good as sophs and will have to make a big contribution for this team to have any success.  Upper 80's is probably pushing it.
 11. Giving Brook a "B".  They have played pretty well for a young team with no real size.
 12.
1) yates only played starters for first 4 minutes of every qtr....(and contrary to popular belief there is a huge drop off from the first to the second group) 2) yates never ran a trapping press the entire game.... (even i was shocked, it was solid full court man to man and play the passing lanes the entire game - no red to red like KTZ and HJ does) 3) they missed about 20 easy shots layups/dunks/short jumpers..... 4) they missed over 10 freethrows (they practiced freethrows at halftime and ran a down and back each time they missed--- lets say they ran 12 down and backs out of 14 freethrows at halftime) might be there downfall if anyone can keep it close 5) DAVIS is comparable to the last place teams in the 3A district in se texas... lol YOU GUYS REALLY NEED TO GO SEE THEM PLAY AND THEN MAKE YOUR JUDGEMENTS....
I'll take your word that they are great and could beat any team I have ever seen.  I still don't "need to see them play" to know that they are a classless organization, from the top down.   The last thing I would do was to give them my $5.
 13. Yates by 20.  Pam has good guard play.  They are quick and aggressive (maybe a little smallish)  The big guys are athletic, and they have 3 or 4 of them, but they are pretty raw.  I like the PAM team a lot.  They handled Brook easily.  But, I just don't see them scoring enough to keep up with Yates for 4 quarters.    JMO

 15.
I would like to have seen this board when HJ was scoring all thier points with the current director of the uil at the helm. I watched several games that they fouled just like Yates is doing.
Hogwash
 16.

Wait a minute, try watching a basketball game, one of the Big 3, and not seeing a player flop trying to draw an offensive foul; or in football, a wide receiver who misses a clsoely contested pass jump up and act as if he was interfered. Watch Peyton or Brady, complain about a defensive lineman who may have gotten into their legs, something perfectly legal just three years ago. Like soccer, acting is much more prevelant at the pro level where they are all looking for an edge and trying to get a referee's call which can make a difference. IMHO WE1 Yes, a predominately white and hispanic sport on this side of the world but I don't see many of either race playing for teams from the African continent teams inclduing Ghana and the Ivory Coast who will compete for the world cup. I don't watch hockey either because I don't know the sport. I have learned to appreciate soccer by watching my kids play. Each generation will have more who played the game and it will incraese in popularity. Can't say it will ever be a Big 4 in the USA but it is unchallenged that the interest is growing and will continue to.
\ very well said soccer is not the only sport that players try to fake being hurt in order to get a call from the official
Fake being fouled, or fake being hurt?  Peyton might complain about hits, wide receivers might complain about interference,  basketball players might flop to get a charge, but they don't roll around like they are injured, with huge grimaces of pain on their faces.  I see a difference.  And, as i said, for a less than casual soccer fan, it's a turn off.  I speak for no one but me.

Yates was trying to score a 100 to maintain their quest for the record. Whereas, Westbury had goals of not extending the record. You guys!
Well, the quest is over.  Do you think they will play with a little class from here on out?
 23.
Goals! They were going for a record at this particular time. Let's see, I think they are #3 in the nation. I'm sure their other goal is to reach #1. You have to do it in style if you want notice from the media, and I'm not speaking of the Beaumont Enterprise ;)
Who decides the "National Champion" anyhow?  Is it recognized by UIL?
 24. Most of us over 40 crowd never played soccer, so we don't understand the game.  it just looks like a bunch of kids kicking a ball around.  Same with hockey.  If you don't play a game, ever, it's not easy to like.  One other thing.  In football, when a collision happens, the players try to get up and act like they are not hurt.  In soccer, if you touch the other guy, he rolls around like he is in agony.  For me, a non soccer fan, it's a bit of a turnoff.    JMHO
 25.

they're fouling when up 30 to get the ball back so they can score more points?  that's ridiculous.  it kind of takes the air out of the whole "if you can't stop them, it's your fault" and the "it's the coach's job to come up with a gameplan to slow them down" argument.  this is classless.  i'm glad they didn't break 100.
This is all on a level you would never understand. It's about exposure on a national level. National ranking (not State, local, regional, etc). It's about Nike pushing some buttons in the future for some people.
You are right in one respect.  I will never "understand" how some coach/AD could be so classless.   The whole school over there is a joke.  Nobody is going to remember a paper title, where they don't actually play the other good teams.  They will however, remember that Yates has no class.  Nice legacy.           ::)
